I love to play archers and I love to craft.I know archers are in the game.I have seen bow crafting .Can you craft arrows(unlike ESOL where they have decided not to put that in the game) ?

nope, there are no arrows in game, the archer launches magical projectiles. Ammo has kind of been done away with in fantasy games due to it being unfair that the archer class is the only class that has to keep shelling out cash to play.

I only played a few levels but never needed arrows, so I think not.
  • EhllfhireEhllfhire Member UncommonPosts: 633
I didnt play archer enough other than the first job quest to kill 3 types of creatures. I didnt need to buy any ammo, so Im not sure if arrows are even in play anymore. All I saw in my level 6 carpenter was weapons no arrows.

    Guess I'm "old school".

    My  first mmog UO.

    Played archer  100 skill

I would spend significant time killing birds ...chopping trees....crafting the best arrows. Its just what archer's do.I never went anywhere without 1000 arrows minimimum and more in my bank.Did I ever run our....rarely but some times.Just pulled out my sword if I could not leave for the bank.No whining.Having a stack of arrows that exist because you crafted them is what a real archer is all about

    rant over.

    (thanks for the quick reply's)

Final Fantasy 11 required actual arrows that you could craft also, but not XIV.

Yup. I mean, they turn to Bards!

30 levels of bullseyeing all kinds of men and beast! What will you do now? ....... Hmm, I think I want to play music!   image

    Yeah, it sucks..

Having elementally-imbued arrows or arrows with debuffs (such as stun, sleep, slow) was what made archers so cool since they can do massive amounts of DPS in any given situation, and they could kite easily...

I mean that was the price of having high DPS anyways.. having to make/buy your own arrows.

That's why you make sure you bring enough before you dungeon/party. You wouldn't go into battle knowing that you do not have enough arrows... what kind of archer would you be?

But yeah, I mean it would suck if you ran out of arrows during a boss fight. That would be such an unfortunate situation. That's how it is sometimes, though.

Everquest 1, my ranger never went anywhere without his fletching kit and supplies to craft my arrows in case i went through the hundreds I usually carried with me.

I don't think it is really the way it is now a days for archers because of "ease" of play for groups and stuff.  I think nobody does it like the old school mmo's anymore because companies are greedy and lazy and want it out the door as fast as possible without to much complexity.

    Playing: Smite, Marvel Heroes
Played: Nexus:Kingdom of the Winds, Everquest, DAoC, Everquest 2, WoW, Matrix Online, Vangaurd, SWG, DDO, EVE, Fallen Earth, LoTRo, CoX, Champions Online, WAR, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Guild Wars, Rift, Tera, Aion, AoC, Gods and Heroes, DCUO, FF14, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar, ESO, ArcheAge
Waiting On: Nothing. Mmorpg's are dead.

I did't get that either, lol.  But I'm glad actually....it makes the bard job much more interesting.  It's fairly apparent that they will eventually be adding a fully-fledged ranged DPS class ala the new arcanist/summoner/scholar classes.

We used to have arrows for archers in version 1.0, but no more! I'm glad they removed it. It's a gil sink....

I loved it because i made my own arrows and would make lower level arrows to sell for profit.  It was amazing

There was another reason for removing the arrows aside from it being unfair to Archers.

    http://home.eyesonff.com/final-fantasy-xiv-realm-reborn/145464-changes-items-money-final-fantasy-xiv-realm-reborn.html

"Today, Square-Enix published an announcement on The Lodestone detailing some changes to items and money in A Realm Reborn. Here are some highlights:

As we covered previouslyFFXIV 2.0 will reduce all players’ gil and all NPC item costs to 1/10 of its current value. This is being done because some cheap consumable items, such as arrows, will be removed. The new announcement clarifies that this is only a general guideline, and rebalancing issues may result in some deviations in this formula for specific items and services. Additionally, we reported in the last Letter from the Producer III, total inventory slots will be reduced to the original 100. However, any items a player has in excess of the new 100 slot limit will not be lost. Instead, the items will be given to a special NPC, and the player can speak to it in order to regain the items at his convenience.

The following items will be converted into gil:
    • Ammunition
    • Throwing weapons (consumable, I assume)
    • Fisher’s secondary tools
    • Fishing Tackle
    • Lures
    • Other obsolete items
Additionally, consumable throwing weapons will be replaced by non-consumable versions.

People have been praising the removal of arrows/ammunition from Final Fantasy XIV, even while decrying the lowered gil. Overall it seems like a good move and will allow newer players to more easily choose ranged classes. Allowing veteran players to keep the special abilities and content from removed items seems like an attempt to appease older players, but it seems like it could create an imbalance in the future. What do you think? Discuss this and any other parts of the new announcement in the comments."

There was an announcement that the economy was increased ten times what was originally planned once arrows were introduced into the game simply because there were already items that sold for 1-10 gil that were technically worth more than the 1 gil / arrow ratio that NPCs sold themselves.  Therefore they increased everything's costs by about 10x and allowed for quests to give 10x the gil as rewards (for instance, the first starting quest gave players 2,000 gil as opposed to 200).

When they finally removed it, the set the economy back to where it was prior to their implementation.  This also worked out since it reduced the current gil in the world by 90% before the 2.0 servers will go live.  To compensate that change, they also decreased the NPC item costs by 90% as well, to match the past increase.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

So they simply removed it because of its effect on the economy? Like the guy said on the eyesonff forum, they should have sold arrows/throwing items by quivers or sets while keeping the prices low.

It's not that uncommon in fantasy novels for Bards to be fighting class of some sort, typically it more closely related to a sneaking thieving class.   Archer is the closest of our current classes that fit Bard really.

We need a scoundrel class that should branches to bard, ninja, and thief though.

More on topic, it was fun making my own arrows in FFXI, but nothing was worse than running out of them in the middle of Delkfutt's Tower and footing it back to Jeuno to get more.  >.> That never happened to me I swear.

A few people run out of arrows and they make fundamental changes to a game.(shakes head).

    Lol you know it!

I think they were named Wights and Dancing Weapons!  I remember there would always be that one party that had a Wight train on them and they would have to zone in to Lower Delkfutt's so every other exp party near there would have to zone in too, lol!

Don't get me wrong, I am not condoning the change.  I definitely would like to see it return, it was part of the fun and depth of the class.  Without it, I would not have my fond memories of that Jeuno run I mentioned earlier.

    HA! Thatd be funny.

Honestly I hated it at first but Im kinda warming up to the idea. They say its still a strong DPS job though obviously not as strong as Monk, Dragoon, or BM. If not then I can always just be a Monk which I like as well and maybe cross my fingers for another Archery class like a Ranger or something.
