I love em. Played so many to end game that its silly. PVP mmos, pve mmos, older mmos, newer mmos, and almost anything that has been out. I'm not playing anything currently but I always find myself hunting but never committing. Some of the mmos that I really enjoyed might have nerfed a part of the game I enjoyed, maybe my favoite class, or just couldn't get some aspect right. In the end, I ended up canceling and come to my current MMO limbo.
Anyone else in the same boat?

I wouldn't say im that far, however i do understand your 'feeling'
Quite often i find myself searching for the 'buzz' i used to get from playing WoW in its early days, friends etc, logging on not knowing, but today this buzz no longer exists in ANY mmo I have played.
I play eve religiously but this doesn't really give me the buzz, this is merely a social event, heck it migth as well be a ICQnet site for 95% ofmy ingame time, now this doesn't mean i dont enjoy the game. Hell i lvoe the game, but in terms of buzz this stopped long time ago (maybe to do with my wealth that i no longer fear losing a 5bill ship etc) but sadly MMO today are much about muchness and this doesn't give them or me the longevity.
I am hopeful that in coming weeks/month/years that a MMO comes out that i find myself thrilled to play , I'm looking at you World of Darkness (and to lesser extent) Wildstar. Who knows, but basically im finding myself starting an MMO playing maybe 1/2 months and then just parting company only to revisit once in a blue moon (im looking at you LOTRO & AoC)
So whilst im not in complete limbo, i do feel your pain and know it well..
This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

Not me. I don't have emotional attachment (i.e. love) to a genre of entertainment products.
And i am not likely to burn out because i don't play MMOs exclusively.
Yea, I know what you mean. After playing SWG for 6 years. I find it hard to become invested in a game anymore. There was a few I liked, like fallen earth, but a game like like that takes alot of time. The older I get, the less time I have for MMO's
So now I just log onto Planetside for some quick FPS action and be done with it. Some games show promise like EQN, but we'll see when it comes out.
Played:SWG(pre NGE/CU sucked)Yep its true, anyone who quit SWG because of the NGE/CU missed out on a much better combat system. DCUO, Fallen Earth, STO, The Secret World. Battlefield series. Planetside 2. Still playing SWG.
There is a problem there. People tend to get bored with new MMOs as they "beat them" too quickly. The time it takes to get to endgame is short and typically there are only a few dungeons at launch to do while you're maxed out. Yet when a game takes more time, people then say it is grindy and quit.
If shorter games don't work because people run out of things to do and longer games don't work because it is grindy and people don't have a lot of time to commit to them, then what is left?
I think a big problem is the main design the genre has taken on. There is a max level cap with endgame content. People level up as fast as they can to be at endgame yet the company spent a lot of time developing content for all levels. Now players sit around not playing the content and demanding more which can of course never be introduced fast enough to keep people busy (how often is an expansion fully explored and completed within a week of launch these days). Either players need to approach games without rushing to the end (or disliking having a longer path to the end since they can't get there in their limited time span) or MMORPG design has to be completely overhauled, or likely both.
Almost any design (even if you take out levels, or gear, or whatever else) needs some form of progression to keep people interested and to give them goals. That progression will always be either too short for those who have a decent amount of time to invest or too long for those who only have a couple hours a week. I don't see a way to make it where a good chunk of people aren't constantly unhappy.
I play a lot of multiplayer games with friends now instead of just mmos like I did years ago. I wouldn't call all mmos crap but they're not different enough to make me feel like I'm doing something new.
That probably has more to do with me, my age and experience than the actual games. They are still new to some people.
Shorter games work. Just play new ones after you "finish" with one. The goal is to have fun, not to stick in a game forever .. at least for me.
I agree with you, in my early time playing mmo,s I used to like every aspect of the games but this has changed alot in the past few years. For me grouping has become boring not to speak of raiding. One can only speculate what this depends on, maybe its me getting associal or the playerbase is more harsh now ,I dont know.
few things
i went back to eq2 about a month ago and i love it. tons to do, just tons. AB server has population too., just wish this had open world PVP more than it does.
if you want something new nonstop, try neverwinter, i know, i know, but the foundry can offer tons of things to do, and the classes are pretty fun to play. it just isnt very deep in play style, but always something to run.
DAY Z- find a pvp permissable server and try to stay alive for more than 4 hours game time, i dare ya. the servers with PVP are too much fun.
DCUO - i spend a lot of time on the PVP servers, well, b/c i love open world pvp, and ganking/being ganked adds an element to gaming
good luck, i know the feeling, but thankfully, i found a balance.
I love the concept of MMOs done right. The problem is, they'll never be done right. Unlike a lot of people around here who whine about how unfair it is that they don't get their perfect MMO, I just accept reality as it actually is and rarely play an MMO. I'd like to, but it's unlikely to happen.
That's what being a mature adult means.
