WoW is pretty easy to get into. Quests and early gear are easy to come by. Soloing is easy enough, and unfortunately unless you get on a new server, thats all there is. When you make about level 55 or so, takes two months of semi regular playtime, you can start raiding and PvP. PvP is far superior to EQ in WoW, every class has a class that can beat it. PvP is built around teams, either the horde or alliance.
Raids are as hard as EQ raids were, though great gear is buyable via PvP points awarded for wins also. Gold is fairly easy to come by, though I didn't have 100 gold at level 40 for my horse immediately.
SOE has nothing to do with it thankfully, major changes are not forthcoming, classes are fairly balanced, it is easy to get into, gets harder later, and most of all is FUN!
First levels are pretty easy ...pvp is well balanced ..and the end game is challenging ( the peeps who made the original eq contributed to wow ) .. Go for it m8... wow ftw
I HAVE MADE THE SWITCH..SWG and EQ2 to WoW...............................
I would definitely agree with the fact that WoW is probably the most fun MMORPG out there. I have played SWG for over 2 years now and EQ2 for about 1 year and both seem to be extra jobs rather than simply a game where one can go to escape the real world and have fun. I just bought WoW 2 days ago and so far I have been overly impressed. I have always been a hardcore SWG/SOE player...and always said that I would never give in and buy WoW like the masses, but after SOE screwed SWG with the first Combat Upgrade and now the CU2 has completely destroyed what was left of the game...WoW was my obvious choice and continues now to prove me right. The graphics are great and my 2Ghz Athlon XP proc and 1GB of RAM keep me lag free at maximum video options. With all my video options on Minimum in SWG I still LAGGED. Now my Internet connection is the same ole cable hi-speed I have had for years and used for both games, explian that. Can someone say Blizzard has their code more optimized for streaming please, or their bandwidth is definitely better! I have always loved Diablo II and Warcraft 2 and 3, not to mention the best game ever...Starcraft!!! And now with World of Warcraft Blizzard once again shows why they are one of the top game developers in the world. WHY IN THE WORLD DID I WASTE THE PAST TWO YEARS PLAYING>>>>I MEAN WORKING IN THE SWG WORLD....WoW has me hooked now!!!
Welcome to WoW.
Hope you enjoy your stay. Just one thing to notice, try not to rush through levels, enjoy your hunting/exploring/dungeon crawling/PvPing. Take your time becuase if you get to 60 in 2 weeks, u will burn out fast. There isnt that much things to do at 60 Ive been told. Personaly, after playing 1 year, my highest char is 47, so I dont feel this "nothing-to-do". Other then that, this game is perrrfect (well, ok, minus the maintainance days hehe)
Another hint, make sure you think carefuly what server you make your chars on:
any PvP server has OPEN PVP - meaning you are free to get killed outside your starting zones (you can usualy level to 20-25 in your starting zones, but after that you go to contested zone and there you are always flagged for PvP). Some people like the thril of constant danger, and I did too. But after getting ganked countless time by lamers who were beyond my abilities to put a vailant fight, after getting my quests screwed up by assholes that made their personal goal to piss people off by attacking quest mobs, ganking lowbies...etc.. after all that i abandoned PvP server. But like i said, some people enjoy that.
PvE servers - no open PvP unless you choose so (by attacking enemy PCs or NPCs that are flagged or by helping flagged allies). Some people claim they are boring and missing the thrill of open PvP. I personaly love it.
RP - Roleplaying servers, RP is strongly encouraged (not sure if its enforced though). Many people who are overly sensitive to bad community go here. I personaly dont care about RPing and i have no probs with lamers on any other servers.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I quit SWG over a year ago for WoW and I still love it.

I used to play EQ2 and SWG and left both for WoW. I played SWG for a long time, until the CU ruined it...and EQ2 I played from launch till about 5-6 months ago.
I'm pretty happy with WoW but I won't lie and say I don't think it's lacking in some areas. I miss the player housing of SWG. Crafting in WoW leaves alot to be desired although it's a welcomed change from EQ2's overly complicated system. Character customization is pathetic to say the least but eh, I'm over it. PvP is very fun in WoW, it's something I didn't bother with in SWG. Hell, I hated PvP till I tried it in WoW...now I love it (in small doses)
Like jimmyman99 said, take your time. I've been playing since April and my highest is only level 45. WoW is a great game to have alts...if you get bored with one, pop over to another and use that XP bonus. Also, like he mentioned, pay attention to what server you join. There's also PvP-RP servers if you like the open PvP and the atmosphere of RPing. Any of the PvP servers are pretty hard to level on because of constantly being flagged.
Anywho, I think SWG to WoW is a good move...especially with the recent and upcoming changes SWG is going through. As far as is it addicting? I think so. Is it hard? I think it's easy to learn and pretty easy to level. Some classes are a bit harder to play well but there's always advice and stuff on the WoW official forums.
Hope that answers your questions
