Uhmm, Ok. changing what I origonally said. Lots of games have good summonig classes. DAoC and Everquest are 2 that come to mind at the moment. For EQ you want to be a Necromancer or Magician. For DAoC you want to be a cabalist or Necro as well i believe. those are the two games that had the best pet systems i ever played.

Also, WoW warlocks can summon a couple pets, not to intricate just summon and go...

Don't listen to him... I don't think you'd like this. Sure warlocks have pets, but their main power comes from their spells. I figured you'd want something that is all about summoning.

The best summoner system I'd have to say would be Final Fantasy XI. I loved summoner in that game... the summons were cool looking, and it really made you feel powerful. However, the rest of FFXI might really turn you off to the idea.

I would suggest EQ or DAoC. And, since you said you've been playing D2, I suspect the graphics won't be an issue for you. :)

Masterminds in CoV have 6 pets and I think some may have 1-2 pet-like secondary stuff, like turrets or such stuff, I was a bubbler and busy to buff my pets with a spell that have a duration so short it make Skin Like Wood look like a long lasting buff.

GW has a system where you can hire NPCs, this is pretty much like having more pets...well not like having 6 pets, but still.

Ultima Online, you can summon Daemons and elementals, as well as some monsters and basically every animal in the game. None of them last for more than a few minutes though, but you can also tame a huge number of creatures as well.

I still say DAoC... the necromancer is pet city. If the necro doesnt have his pet, hes toast. Literally, hes just a pet field. The cabalist is a lot like the Warlock on WoW, so its not as dependant. Theres like 6 different pet classes in DAoC... check them out Here!!!

FFXI has a Summoner class that sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

FFXI summons are mostly support in exp parties, but they can do real damage, too. In fact, using Astral Flow to pull out all the stops and do massive damage is a good tactic for Summoners in boss fights, and makes them a favored class in for fights where that works well (you can only use Astral Flow once every two hours, which is why it's not an everyday tactic). When you're working solo (and Summoners can actually solo relatively well), your summon always does all the damage: your character essentially has no way to hurt the mob other than your summon.
