WoW or FF

Im thinking of purchasing one of these games and would like to know which one is better. What i know about these are:

WoW - Only fun for the first few months. Too easy

FF - Takes long to create a party and needs party for the most time you play it

I have a question for those who played both of these games. Which is bigger? area wise, like which has more places to explore, I particularly like a game which has a big world so theres alot to explore and so it doesnt get boring. Which has more players?

NOTE: Does anyone know where i can download a free WoW trial? other than fileplanet.

WoW is the much better game.  Better graphics, better music, better UI, larger weapon and Armor assortment, and more mob variety.  As far as area I havent been to too many different lands in FF because it sucked so bad I quit, but in WoW I still hadnt been everywhere and I played for over 6 months.  WoW you can solo as much and almost anywhere you want to.  In FF you HAVE to group and it can take hours to find a grp.  I eventually quit WoW because it took up too much of my time, but I quit FF after only 30 days so that should be a good indicator.

EDIT:  whats wrong with fileplanet?  My wife just used it to DL her trial, its free.

fileplanet you have to pay and i heard its only for North America to download and im from Australia.

The reason i might get FFXI is that when my friend played it before, he never got charged, meaning the bill never showed up. =D

but dont get me wrong, WoW looks alot better, i dont really like that waiting for the party thing on FF.

On WoW, can you kill any player? if you can, wouldnt it suck if high level players just keep killing you?

Granted, the same billing error your friend experienced will not happen to you, then what would be your reason for playing FFXI?

I've played both FF and WoW and here is my basic synopsis: WoW allows you to see much of the world at an early level, and there is pleeenty of world to explore. In FF it seemed I never really got too far away from the main city, because either 1) an enemy which required a group killed me, or 2) I would go to another map where a tough enemy would kill me. The graphics in WoW are nice, but in FF they are much cleaner, plus (in my opinion) the characters in FF look cooler, and the high end equipment looks cooler, however characters and equipment in WoW can aslo look cool.

Oh and btw on the pvp question: if you join a PVP server, yes, that could happen to you, where a high level enemy comes up and kills you, however this would add to their dishonorable kill level, so this is unlikely. If you join a normal server, no this will not happen because you have to be flagged for PVP for anyone of an opposing faction to attack you on friendly or neutral territory (however not on enemy territory.

    I hope this helps.

well when ive played FFXI ive explored everywhere in like a month. so WoW is much much bigger? or just a little.

PVP server? normal server?  is that like a permanent server you join or when you load it up, you always have the option to choose.

I might just buy WoW and buy a 2month card. Does WoW delete your account like FFXI? or can you keep the account forever?

WoW.  Isnt really easy, could take well over half a year to hit lvl 60, and get some good gear. WoW has more players(as far as I know) and has huge areas to explore.
  • kast0nekast0ne Member Posts: 19

Huge areas.. thats what i like, as long as theres alot to explore.

well can anyone else answer my other questions? it will be GREATLY appreciated =D

you think 1/2 a year is a long time... in ff11 it takes about a year to get to lvl 60

and if youdont want to be in a party you can choose certain jobs such as thief and black mage or even red mage so you dont have to pt all the time...

i find it funny how people who really never played WoW call it simple and easy, when its only that way when you make it.

FF being my first mmo almost turned me off from the genre completly, other then the horrid interface you could actually delevel by dieing. while im not against death penalties you should never loose a level, the worse thing i expierience was with my lvl 20 monk i just leveled went to town and got some new gear from the AH and sold the gear i had on(thats something i really liked about the game, you could resell the gear you bought) i went out and someone invited me to a group i said yes of course being a noob and all we go to a usual gringing spot and he aggros all the mobs and we both die and i delevel and cant use any of my gear or most of it some was a level below my current.

WoW on the other hand is as hard or easy as you make it. Hardcore players say its to easy and fast but they never look for another to duo with which can make the game easyer and harder at the same time. you have double hte firepower yet you may become cocky and try something that you cant really do and end up deing but luckly the only death penalty is a 10% loss to equiped armor and weapons which will eventally break.

all and all WoW is a better game over all there is just more to do(FF has very very little in the way of quests so its a gring from 1 to whatever the final level is) while FF is "bigger" most of it is barren and just a filer space on the other hand WoW's world is interesting from lvl 1 imo even barren type places like the barrens for example are filled with semi-interesting things

there is much more i woud like to say but i think i summed it up pretty well(sorry for any spelling errors but im to lazy to copy and paste to word and fix whats wrong)

im not over powered! look it took me 10 minutes to kill that guy

eh... last time i knew...there has never been dishonor in killing lower level players. However you get no honor for a low level player. Only killing NPC's of lower level give you dishonor.....unless i just missed that patch altogether somehow.

I've no idea which one is the bigger. i played FF for little over a month and then left for the ususal reason: needed a group for even going to the bathroom. I know WoW is pretty big place. At each and every level you have at least 3 areas where you can go to level up. more at higher levels. Each area can also be pretty big, but the best thing is that there are lots of features on each map. Strongholds, encampments, caves, wizard's towers, etc etc.

WoW has 4 types of servers at the moment: PvE, PvP, RP and RPPvP. You can create characters on all types (you get a total of 50 characters i think, max of 8 per server).

First an introduction. the world is divided in Alliance zones, Horde zones and Contested zones. the Alliance/Horde zones are the vast minority, including the areas around the 6 capitals plus the area directly adjacent that is level 11-20 usually. all others are Contested areas.

Also, the game has 3 battlegrounds (for now) that are available on all server types and works same way. Warsong Gulch is a fast and furious capture the flag. Arathi basin is a medium length battlefield about gathering resources and Alterac Valley is a 50+ Epic battles with full fledged bases and possibilities to do lots of quests to upgrade and enlarge the army of npcs on your side. (including getting cavalry charges, air support and finally a massive elemental thing to smash the enemy).

In the battlegrounds, the normal rules do not apply. you can freely attack all enemies.

PvE: you can't be attacked by anybody. no matter where you are. (yes, even in enemy territory). However, your pvp flag can be activated by certain activities: attacking a Faction NPC (recognizables because next to their portrait there is a faction shield) will flag you for pvp. Healing a factioned friendly npc or a flagged pc will flag you. In addition, the opposite faction NPC and guards will be hostile to you and attack on sight. if you defend yourself, you get flagged

When you are flagged, everybody of the enemy faction can attack you and flag himself as well. The flag will expire in 5 minutes. you can also manually set the flag on with command /pvp

PvP: in your Faction areas, you can't be attacked. everywhere else, you are permanently flagged for pvp. so each encounter with the others can potentially be a fight. Yes, this do means that a high level guy could come around and use you as a carpet and it does happens. Dying in pvp, however, has no penalty whatsoever, so you just lose time to get back to your corpse in ghost form. In addition, players of higher level are never as dangerous as mobs of higher level. meaning that you CAN damage and threaten even a player much higher than you. especially if you attack as a group.

RP: this is the same as PvE but with a few added rules for favoring Role Playing. namely, more medievalish names and no Out Of Character speech in /say, /yell and /group. Also general chat channel is limited to game-related topics (but is not strictly In Character).

RP-PvP: This is a PvP server with the RP rules implemented in them.

When you log in, you automatically logs on the last server you played on, but you can very well change it with the right button.

As for account deletion, Blizzard will not delete your account in any occasion. your characters, however, might get deleted, but only if a lot of time has passed and even then, it is very rare if ever, that they get cancelled.

I hope this helped. have a nice day

lol man, thanx alot for that, helped me alot image

The PvP thing sounds fun, you could get a bunch of people and gang up on a high level dude =D. But when you create a character in PvP, you cant move that character into PvE? And you wer also saying you can move into ANY server anytime?

So if i only play WoW for 2 months and play again 6 months later, my account will still be there? just as i left it?

Its okay being killed by another person, as long as you dont lose anything. BTW which is the most popular race and job? I heard mages are good since they dont die much. too bad you cant change jobs. you have to create another character to have a different job right ..?!?!?

One last question.. =D lol sorry for the questions...image
Is leveling up with a party better than solo? like experience wise.

thanx thanx.... btw have u got msn? im probably gonna get WoW this week imageimageimage

One you choose a server its permanent, so if you wanna PVP your gonna do it all the way to 60.. However in the newbie areas the other faction cannot come in and just kill you, you would have to attack them first..even on a PVP server. There are contested areas as you get higher though that anyone can attack.. Its not really constant ganking unless you spend alot of time alone in Stranglethorn Vale.

characters are server bound. once created there they stay. in some occasions Blizzard makes voluntary character transfers from crowded servers to not-so-crowded ones, but that is nothing you can control about and never in a different server type.

You can access all servers all the time. your characters remain where you created them though. So, you could, teoretically, create 50 characters in 50 different servers and play each day a different one.

Oh! i forgot to say that in PvP and RPPvP servers, you are locked in the faction you choose initially ie: Alliance or Horde. You can still create 10 (yeah, it is 10 per server, not 8) characters there, only all in same faction.

if you return 6 months later, most probably your characters are all still there, yes.

Yes, once you get your class, it is fixed. but as you have 10 character slots on each server, you can experiment. ALL classes are good at most and excels in something. Hunters excels in pvp for example. All classes can be soloed, pretty much trough the whole game. Certain classes, like paladin, are easier to solo than others, others, like a holy specced priest, are harder... but not impossible.

As for race, i would say that the most popular is Night Elf for alliance and Undead for horde. But you can pretty much pick what you like :)

In parties you do get a xp bonus that is proportional to how many people are in the party... but it is pretty pointless anyhow cause the main method of advancing is by completing quests, not by killing mobs.

Lastly, i don't have MSN nor i use any messaging program at the moment. I play in European shard Defias Brotherhood. my character there is Ylevarien, a Night elf hunter that just completed his first Battleground experience coming out first in number of kills.(was a great battle, by the way, horde was really organized and it was lot of fun).

And no worries for the questions.
