Now that the NDA is partially lifted, we have much to say about Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. During our time in game, we discovered five great things about FFXIV: ARR. See what they are and then leave your ideas in the comments.
In its initial form, MMO's tended to be one character playing one class. That single class often filled a single role. In the modern form, classes and roles are a lot more fluid and FFXIV:ARR is no exception. They have retained the armory system from 1.0, in armory you change your class simply by changing your weapon. Running Gladiator but your party needs a Conjurer? Put on a staff and, assuming you took the time to level up the conjurer class, you are now the party's conjurer.

I did the exact same thing, i did report some bugs so my slot wasn't wasted else i'd feel bad.
Funny, me three!
A little help with it being only on weekends (my play time is during the week), but this is shaping up really well compared to 1.0
Looking for ward to a pay to play game
The game is more of the same. Nothing really new to the genre: "kill X of Y" questing, slow tab-targetting combat, etc.
It's not terrible, but it's also nothing special - another clone in a sea of clones.

I can't agree more with this review. The game is just mind blowing. I love OldSchool MMO's with the level of polish and innovation of a 2013 MMO. The story is very well done, the class/job system is pretty awsome and everything is pretty good.
Can't wait for the release, this game is the best i played in the last couple of years.
Lol, that is the best argument ever.
I guess I've never played an MMO before and come from 2001. Wow, I didn't even realize that until you told me.
Just to blow your theory out of the water, here are my stats:
1) Only played one FF title before this ie not a FF fanboy.
2) No one has ever payed me to post anything (I am accepting offers though).
3) Never taken a crazy pill that I know of.
4) I've played a lot of MMOs before this one. My favorites are sand box not theme park.
5) I was alive in 2001 but did not come here directly from 2001 (I assume this is what you are insinuating).
AND I like this game. Go figure.
It's not really hearkening back to an older time, given it has the "streamlining" systems that have made most modern themeparks the overly-simplified garbage they have become, like quest-helper circles on the (horrible) map, easy fast travel/teleporting all over the place, simple combat, tiny linear zones, lots of instancing, etc.

I found myself enjoying Final Fantasy 14 ARR a lot. It brought back my memories as a kid playing all those other final fantasy games. I hear that, "Yoshi-P has stated in the past that he would like to add famous and recognizable bosses from past FF titles into the game as Fate monsters", which is going to be extremely cool.
It doesn't really matter to me what others say. All I can say is that I enjoy the game and will continue to enjoy it as long as possible. And the payment model doesn't bother me one bit, I work and can afford it .

I got over the nostalgia pretty quick. Been a long time fan of the Final Fantasy series and a huge fan of XI but I can't seem to get over how slow the combat feels. No off GCD abilities and a very boring GCD combat system. I do like the fact that they finally have chocobos as mounts. It was very annoying to be playing 1.0 and seeing all the stables but no mounts. Going to have to pass on the game for it has become too westernized for my tastes. Wish the best of Squares Enix though... I grew up playing Squaresoft games.
+1 for the community though!
This is a fairly good write up. Kudos to the writer.
you do run out the kill x and y quest after your first class or 2 then you have to do the other content
I'd just like to note that "Kill X of Y" quests pretty much stop before level 5. They go out of their way to try and make every quest a little different (be it side quest or main story) from ones they've already done. It's just that one Combat Guild quest the requires you to show you have what it takes to join them.
the thing you dont seem to be understanding the combat STARTS out simple then it gets more COMPLEX as you get more skills form other classes its intended this way to ease newer mmos players into the game
5.
Wow, there really is a mental challenge? That sounds interesting
I've been enjoying the betas and find the Final Fantasy setting quite refreshing and very unique. I think SE has done a remarkable job going from 1.0 to ARR and I'll definitely be checking it out at launch.
Ryahl that was an interesting article, please feel free to write some more
Sounds like a great game but the one-character-fits-all class system kinda worries me. No one is unique and to me being unique is something I can hang my hat on; being just another player you can expect alot of back-seat driving from other players who "know better than you". Expect being relegated to dps role in PUGs and being bullied into playing roles you don't prefer.
This argument is just like arguing politics, to me this class-by-equipment deal is akin to socialism, and not in a good way.

Thats lame argument, there are lots of mmos with similar system, or open system. Just take your pick. Rifit, Tsw, Eve from newer ones Ultima Online from older ones ?
For me this is one of the best things about the game as i hate alts and the moment i roll one i quit the game.
(Retired)- Anarchy Online/Ultima Online/DAoC/Horizonsz/EQ2/SWG/AC1&2/L2/SoR/WoW/TMO/Requiem/Atlantica Online/Manibogi/Rift+(SL)/Lol/Hon/SWTOR/Wakfu/Champions Online/GW/Lotr/CO/TcoS/Tabula Rasa/Meridian 59/Vanguard/Shadowbane/Fury/SotW/Dreamlords/HGL/RoM/DDO/FFXI/Aoc/Eve/Warhammer Online/Gw2/TSW/Tera/Defiance/STO/AoW/DE/Firefall/Darkfall/Neverwinter/PS2/ESO/FF14/Archeage/Gw2
you can't be bullied into a role if you dont have it leveled up yet. no one is going to expect you to heal when your healer lvl is 5 and your warrior main is lvl 30. all the system does is to make you attached to your character since you dont need to make alts, you just keep everything on the same character.
Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)
Yeah, there was a lot wrong with his post in my opinion.
1) He called others crazy for not having the same tastes as he does (or shills)
2) He admitted to uninstalling the game quickly, which shows he doesn't have any real experience with the game and just uses the "been around the block" argument and "played one mmo, played them" mentality.
3) He makes assertions that the only people who can like it have never played a MMO or are from "2001" (What does that even mean?).
I've been playing MMOs since Ultima Online, and I really only got sold on this game by level 15 when I saw the real soul of the game through it's continuously unlocked features, difficulty / party play and many other features. It's just sad today there there are people who don't have patience; MMOs tend to yield to said people just to cater to them. There are so many posts asking to nerf the 15+ difficulty on the forums that it's getting kind've depressing.
