During the third Final Fantasy XIV beta, producer Naoki Yoshida managed to squeeze in some anonymous game time. According to the latest Producer's Letter, he played as a Conjurer and never managed to snag that epic robe he was looking to find.
It's been hectic preparing for release, but I've managed to sneak in a little anonymous game time during phase 3 as well. This past weekend I was playing as a conjurer, partying with random players to collect gear from the dungeons. No matter how many runs I did though, not a single robe dropped. But then, on my last run, the robe I'd been waiting for finally appeared in the loot list! Needless to say, I lotted on it right away—but then the thaumaturge lotted and won by two points. It was all I could do to type "Congrats!" while biting back my tears.

One of the many reasons why i am done with raiding and hamster treadmill gear grind. When Yoshida said he will be looking at WOW for tips he wasn't kidding. Somehow he managed to pick up the worst ideas from that game.

Actually i saw him with his main character named Naoki Yoshida in Gridania talking to the players, both in English & Japanese.
Pretty impressive to see a producer playing his game and talking to the players to be honest.
I wish he was more honest. He claims to be an mmo veteran with 20 years of experience under his belt, but it's not really reflected in the game design...
I feel that him and his team need to go back and study WoW again, this time beyond the level 20 trial. They have much more to learn from the american mmos that they're attempting to recreate
Oh cause I'm sure they didn't study the game beyond level 20. What else could he be more honest about? In fairness I personally am a bit put off at the delays and time this game has taken to see light, but Yoshi straight up came in there and was like "FFXIV 1.x sucked, I'm sorry you had to see that", I hope you like our new game with everything you could ask for in due time. Even if you prefer 1.23 over 2.0 you'd be lying to yourself if you believed he didn't do what he said he was going to.
Last time Lord British did that, someone killed him lmao!

Which American MMOs are you talking about? WoW, Rift, GW2, ... I don't need another MMO that tells me how to breathe and holds my hand from 1 to endgame. It's already bad enough FFXIV: ARR has quest markers, help tips popping up all over the place and whatnot. No need to make it even worse.
I sure do. I've watched/read every single interview he has had with the press since his first day with ff14. He has talked about his personal experiences and preferences many times. In game and RL. [mod edit]
What nice try? it was an honest question. Reading about him on internet doesn't exactly qualify as your claim regarding 'knowing him'.

Ok i thought you have met him and know him personally in some capacity. Because as far as internet is concerned anyone can read about what he says on internet and can claim ' i know Yoshi'. Maybe just the way you worded it i thought maybe you are talking about knowing him out of Internet in personal life.

Actually the ones that are bickering and started it all where there action new age children that think every game should be like that now.
One good thing comes from it being more classical mmo. All the (censored) people will stay away hopefuly.

MMO community in general as well as forum personas. People will always follow a game just to trash it at any point for no reason at all. Though they are a valuable counter balance to ensure hype doesn't go into over drive. While it is unfortunate to see so many judge a game (any game) based on assumptions and or only playing the game for an hour and quitting, it actually serves in the best interest of the game overall.
When someone enters a game due to all positive feed back and no negative, they become hyper sensitive to the faults (and all games have faults). But at times you really do need to call people out if there is ample indication that they did in fact only judge a book by it's cover or use past experiences -- or the MMO genre itself -- to come by their conclusions. More often than not only those who have played game extensively are more reliable sources of information. But at the same time, one cannot dismiss the notions of others or how helpful a thread with a negative name would be.
It makes people interested the more it is shown on the front page, and they will then enter on a basis that there are two parties of strong feelings. Though a mixture of good and negative threads is also of pivotal importance in that light.
Luckily, as Khebeln said, most people who actually play the game will likely be very nice. This has been the case in the past, in the beta (for me) and will likely be the case in the future. Good times to be had all around.
If any of you want a good community... focus on the one in game... stay away from forums, including the beta forums and your enjoyment of the game will increase immensely.
I have a thick skin and other people's rants or rabid fanboyism do not sway my opinion of the game or its merits to anyone other than my own experience.
I enjoy the game and no one can convince me to like it more or less than I do.
I think playing the game shows the love that they have put into it.
I don't think there is a lack of transparency at all.
