Wargaming has announced that World of WarPlanes will enter open beta in Russia and North America beginning today, Tuesday, July 2nd. European players can join the fray on July 4th. Almost three million potential pilots signed up for closed beta testing so it's sure to be a high-flying adventure.
World of Warplanes enters open beta with features including a real-time tactical feedback system to help players learn the best possible combat tactics, as well as crews and crew skills, consumables and various types of ammunition. The game will also feature a brand new tutorial to give fledgling pilots a chance to learn the ropes before they hit the deadly skies.
At the late stages of the open beta, World of Warplanes will also see the official launch of the Unified Premium Account system, allowing players of either World of Tanks or World of Warplanes to purchase a premium account and have its benefits extend to both titles.

Have been playing this since, Sept 2012. It has had many changes. Some good, some not so much.
The Open Beta patch is called 0.5, however, their last patches, 0.4.3.x really messed up the flight model again. They had it almost perfect with 0.4.2.x series of patches.
The 30 or so guys I group with on vent are very disappointed, but we're hopeful Open Beta will be an improvement. We can deal with nerfing some parts of some planes or making another plane op, but when the flight model is back to where it was months ago, it's hard to keep playing.
I had 4 closed beta accounts and have accumulated over 7,000 battles. So, with all that time invested, I'm hoping for the best.
