I left SWG a long time ago. Believe it or not the game was way under populated and boring starting about a year and half ago. The CU and NGE are just extra bombs to the game. Anyway, Im starting the WOW trial and wanted to know a good realm to join (populated), minimal lag etc. etc. I dont want to log into a dead community basically or a bunch of technical headaches.
I know very little about the game but am choosing the Undead as a race. Any feedback on avoiding a bunch of headaches and getting the most out of this ten day trial would be helpful.
thanks

as for server, you can pick one that is not high population or full. even a low population will do. I dunno what that "low" means, but on my server, that was low at least for a while and is now medium, there is always loads of people... so no fear.
As for the rest... well, maybe be a bit more specific?

Concerning realms, much of it depends on where you live. Ex. East Coast or West Coast. Some realms are better for those specific ones and also I would try to find a medium populated realm if you have a decent computer. If you computer is barely at minimum standards go for a low populated one. I would suggest against a highly populated one due to the fact that while at the time that you join it may not have queues, after a while it may as shown by the most heavily populated ones as of now.
Also, about the game tips. This game is very very user friendly compared to SWG. THe beginning area is very good and it leads you through the game very head-ache free. Also, http://wow.allakhazam.com/ is a very good resource as if www.thottbot.com I would suggest joining a guild also, and don't roll a rogue. THere are so many not many groups will want you, priests are the most wanted overall, but I have noticed that mages are in demand, at least on my realm. A good melee class would be warrior I think. Most groups can't get enough of them. Also, warlocks are in slight demand if pets are your thing.

does WoW delete your account if you dont play it after a while? if yes how long?
I live on the East Coast, Virginia. So how do I know which servers to pick from? Do they show this anywhere? Also my computer is 2.4 ghz, 1024 mem- 2700 ddr, 80 gig, nvidia 6600 graphics agp, Soundblaster Gamer, 533 front side bus, windows XP.
The character Im thinking about is - Undead mage or undead warlock.
any feedback, thanks
Also to note is what type of gameplay do you like? The basic difference between servers is PvE (Normal) or PvP realms. Be mindful that if you choose a PvP server, once you hit contested territory you're open to attack (in your case from Alliance).
Although I prefer the PvP environment, it's not for everyone. By no means when I suggest that some players choose a PvE (Normal) server am I calling them 'carebearish, etc'. You can still enjoy PvP, but it's at your own choice on Normal servers. I can't tell you how many times I've been in areas, like Stranglethorn Vale, when General chat is spammed by some idiot crying about being camped and how this is ruining his game play, bleh bleh bleh.
If you decide to continue playing WoW, make sure you choose the right environment for you.
You may also want to see if some of your fellow galaxy mates have joined a particular server. I know that many from my former galaxy, Kettemoor, have started guilds on Bonechewer and Argent Dawn. If you're new to the game, nothing like having some folks you're familar with around.
Eitherway, I hope you enjoy your time in Azeroth! ^_^

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
I play on Skywall, a fairly new PvE server. I think its located on pacific timezone. Im personaly on the eastern side, so i get a bit higher then average latency, usualy i get anywhere in between 190-260 latency, which does not affect my gameplay in any way.
My advice, first, decide what type of server to play (RP - usualy less noobs there, PvE - no open pvp=no ganking, PvP-open PvP brings excitement becuase you are always in danger of being attacked everywhere but the starting zones (but beware of ganking, nothing more annoying as a group of level 60s ganking level 30s)
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I would highly reccomend an RP or PvPRP server. You deal with a lot less 1337 DOODZ. I met up with a friend on a PvP server and couldn't go 3 steps without someone challenging me to a duel. It got pretty annoying.
I would also recomend that you choose the lowest population server you can find, wait queues suck.
