Nothing is Confirmed

PigglesworthPigglesworth Member UncommonPosts: 260

I keep reading through the forums and see so many posts claiming this and that is confirmed, based on a random twitter post, 2 year old video, or anything else.

Ideas change. Plans change. The game has been scrapped and started over a couple times.

Until August 2, nothing is really confirmed.

Technically, nothing is confirmed until the game is launched.

Speculating is all we have right now. =p

Some things have been flat out confirmed.  The game being free to play for example:

If you think that nothing is confirmed until August 2nd, you might as well think nothing is confirmed until the game launches.  While it's possible that developers can change their minds, if we can't trust flat out statements coming from the horse's mouth, we may as well just sit on our hands until the game is installing on our computers and end all discussions about upcoming games.

What's wrong with the name EverQuest Next? I like it and based on a former thread about the confirmation of the title, many others liked it too!

Oh and btw you must know that cursing out the mods would be 1 way to get banned...

That is one of the very few confrmed features if it is truely a confirmation, haven't watched the vid yet.

The OP is, like me, probably just friggin sick n tired of all these damn threads trumping their toot with say X feature will be there when their basis of their "confirmed feature" is just a vague ass opinion from Smed like the who open world PvP.  Where Smed agrees with the system but in no shape of form does he indicate or even hint at that it will be a core feature in EQN.

This is MMORPG.com where all the MMO rejects jump on the band hate wagon or reminense in the "good old days" of MMOs and will be nerd raging all over the forums on Aug 2nd because EQN isn't custom designed to their vision which only the very minority want.

The colors don't magically make your posts great, as a FYI.

As for confirmation goes, have a shot of self control before bashing vets, players, devs, and the rest. :)

So it's not going to be an MMO?

"norrath" doesn't have everquest in the name, that is a must from a business standpoint.

EQN getting best of E3 on this site and the now famous "poop your pants" comment has benefited both SoE and MMORPG greatly.

    Well played.

And yet the first Everquest, in spite of its name, was the most successful MMORPG made until WoW. And speaking of WoW, "World of Warcraft" is not a "proper, lore-centric, RPG name."

I realize that I am replying to a troll account, and I shouldn't, but the refutation was so obvious that I couldn't resist. +1 troll point for Seliriious I guess.

no, it ACTUALLY IS NOT AT ALL

what's a MUST is SELLING MORE & PROFITING MORE & becoming a major player in the MMO market comparable to WoW & Lineage II

EverQuest reeks of uber hermit nerdgasms, it's unprofessional & not a proper, lore-centric, RPG name

you don't know too much about marketing, do you? that's like blizzard making a world of warcraft sequel and naming it Azeroth .

how many people have heard of world of warcraft vs the people that know Azeroth is the actual world that you play in?

same with EQ, how many people have heard of everquest vs people that know norrath is the world of everquest?

you are basically pissing away the popularity of your IP by doing that.

you are not being very realistic if you think a "lore-centic" name is more important than making money to SOE.

    [mod edit]

Something is definitely fishy with your account(s). I don't know exactly what yet, but something is funky there.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

    1. Having Everquest in the title is required.

It is the name that is popular period you're essentially making EQ3 not having Everquest in the name you might as well make a new IP.

Everquest: Norrath would of been a great choice.

Are you trying to tell me that a smiley face on twitter isn't confirmation of something?

did they not already use the name EQNext?

I thought they made EQ2 sub and then later on made a EQ2  trial/ftp to run side by side till they were combined. Was it not during this small time the EQ2 trial/ftp was named Next?

Maybe i am remembering it wrong but if i am right it makes no sence to use(recycle) a name that was used before. I know someone used the name "Next" a few years ago.

(Just adding to the game naming debate)

I have also noticed a sudden surge in new accounts just to hype EQnext.

I still wonder how they define sandbox. Because in the interview that mentioned EQNEXT was sandbox, in the same voice they said Everquest was a sandbox. So I believe people may be disappointed there.

not only that but if you read the quote he says sandbox style game.

i think people need to try and stay calm and wait until next month before they get all worked up about certain features being in the game.

i am just hyped to get to play EQ again, hopefully sooner than later :)

This is actually what worries me the most.  Amongst the random comments by team members that make it sound as if they are still deciding on things, and the fact that they've scrapped and rebuilt the game 2 or 3 times, there's a general feeling of having no real vision for what they want to do.

I hope they prove it wrong, but thus far, all that feels confirmed, to me, is a lack of direction.

From my research they scrapped the game only 1 time and that was approximately a year and a half ago.

The reason was because the game was becoming "another" Themepark game with more of the same but with better graphics and a few different approaches.  According to David Georgeson's interfview with MMORPG's own Robert Fuller, the game lacked a wow factor so the design was scrapped but the core foundation remain unchanged.

It was also about this time that I made a prediction that new design philosophies would start shifting to more sandbox features.  Who'd a thunk I was actually right for once.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
