Will EQN Have a 64bit Engine Able to Address More than 2GB of Memory

I cannot think of any MMO out there off the top of my head that uses a 64bit engine.  Do you think EQN could be the first to break the chains that bind many of today's games?

It's going to use the Planetside Engine, which I believe does not support 64-bit atm.

    32-bit is about 3,8GB btw, not 2GB.

    I think Wow has a 64bit client.

We haven't really seen any graphics of EQNext have we. All of the "screenshots" have been artworks so far afaik.

The Planetside 2 engine isn't bad looking, but it's not CryEngine in terms of graphics.

You would be surprised.  Planetside 2 you have to keep in mind is a fuck huge massive open draw distance, etc.  So all of the texture res's have to be a lot lower, particle effects reduced, etc etc.

EQ:N is going to have a lot more control over draw distances and things like that. Also, the lighting/particle/etc effects in PS2 are friggin amazing, easily as good as anything in BF3.  Its just the slightly low res textures and such that ruin the overall experience.

WoW has had a 64bit client for about two years, TBH There is little advantage to 64bit on PC, powerful GPU's and fast memory compensate at the moment and there's lots of tricks devs have developed to get around the addressing issue.

Considering that Planetside 2 is being developed for PS4 and EQN will probably follow suite, it's very likely both games will take advantage of both multi-core cpu's and >2GB RAM systems.

Very few PC games have a 64 bit client.

Windows 32-bit itself can use "about 3,8GB", however, each individual 32-bit application is limited to 2GB (with some exceptions) regardless of if it's run on Win32 or Win64.

CryEngine and Frostbite are both 64 bit.

Quite a few games use those engines.

Well, here is what MS says.

    2GB-3GB on 32 bit

    2GB-4GB on 64 bit

Good questions and I hope the answer is YES.

I want 32 Bit to disappear forever

Its a soft thing, there are ways to program around the limits..

however its still just plain stupid that there is no top mmo engine with 64 bit support, but since EQnext is meant to stay for atleast 20 years, i just assume they tought about this and will support this

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

They could do what Bioware did in SWTOR, which is have 2 processes running for the game. Then you can use double the amount of ram in 32bit.

But if the game is using less than 3gb of assets at a time then 64bit won't make any difference.  I think your also limited by video ram as well.

You can actually go beyond the 4gig limit in eq2 and crash the game by doing so.
