In my honest opinion, the current combat system is alright. It's neither good nor bad, just in between.

The combat system does it's job doing what it's supposed to do, and it's functional, which is one of the most important things.. and I'm sure SE is prioritizing that aspect of the system before improving anything else. The combat system is simple at best, and it can surely improve over time. I mean, it is the beta, and that's what beta testing is for, to provide feedback on how they can improve the battle system besides just telling them to re-do the whole thing and make it into an action-based system or blah blah blah.

There are multiple ways SE can improve this combat system whether directly or indirectly. I mean, they still have other aspects of the game that still need work before combat can really shine. I'm talking about the limit break system, the gears' influence on combat, boss AI, party play, cross-class system, job system/skills, skill combos, overall combat mechanics (dodge, jump, kiting, position, blocking/parry, flinching, etc.)... And if they really want to go the extra mile, they could improve skill animations to make combat more fluid/flashy/fun if it's a possibility, and creating new skills to synergize with the current ones, or even altering some of the current ones to make them function better.

The combat can only go up from here.. and I'm sure SE recognizes all these possibilities. But it's going to be another waiting game before we see this combat in it's prime...

The game has beautiful graphics...great dialogue and

combat graphics straight out of hundreds of asian grinders we have all seen

I was shocked at the contrast between combat and the high production values of the rest of the game.

Well for me the game as a whole is really fun.

The combat looks beautifull and the mechanics are fine for me, as it is more about choosing wich skill too use when and how to progress ur character.

    Wich i like more.

Ok so how many people have actually read up on the combat system for this game? Position is extremely important, not just with Lancers but all classes. Being behind an enemy gives you boosts to attack, dodge and other stats.  They are in-game coded this way.  You're not going to get a lot of skills, this is true. The reason for this though is because your skills level with you.  As you become higher level you should notice each skill take more to cast.

This game is not meant to solo, it is very party based.  This is why you have skillchains.  If party members use the right combinations of skills they will do more damage.  Is this game easier in the beginning? Yes.  Will it pick up? Yes it will. SE already stated the first 20 levels where designed to get people into the story and get accustomed to the game play...   Remember this is just BETA! they haven't implemented a lot of content still.  SE has already said they will almost double the content within the first year.

I have played Maurder, Archer, Mage and Gladiator and all you do a repeative 1,2,3 skill rotation. When fighting a mob you are trying to do the most dps you can and the best way is to do the skill rotations so there is not a choice of when. This is the way the game is designed and its flawed.

    The combat is pretty bad.

No real emphasis on movement or dynamism, just stand there and cycle through your rotation with the excessively long (2.5 second) global cool down. Lots of ability redundancy and button bloat, skills that do dps, and more dps, and more different dps, etc. Rotations are long just for the sake of being long. Nothing really reactionary or proc based. Individual dps and hps skills are underwhelming and don't confer a feeling of power at all.

Whoever came up with the combat system should feel bad. Combine this with the typical fetch/kill x type quests and I was bored out of my mind.
