Planetside question

KiamdeKiamde Member CommonPosts: 5,820

Im thinking about getting it.

1.Have new patches helped the lag?

2.I have a 256k connection and 512 RAM. Will that work out?

3.Are the servers very populated?

4.Does anyone know that the new expansion has been announced-core combat-and will have city  fights?

    A:

    1. Big time

    2. Just fine

    3. Just like any other server; peak times = lag

    4. Probably not, but will see at the end of the month

    3.  Servers aren't populated nearly as much as they were when the game released.  I believe each dot represents 250 people so the most populated server has maybe 500 people on it and peak times maybe 750.

4.I believe when I first heard about the expansion they said they were going to concentrate on more of an urban style fighting.  But, who knows.

    **My question**
Stopped playing, did the latest patches help with the balancing issues at all?

I used to play planetside till about 6 weeks ago and found that a lot of the lag(or drag as some have pointed out here) is due to the RAM.

512 RAM seems to be too small for large battles and  it seems to virtually disappear on 1gb.

This is with a 1mb connection.

I was just telling you that CC will have city fights-confusing sentence structure.

So I will have no1 to play with?

I quit about 2 months ago due to the same thing over and over again I can only capture so many bases and towers before I get bored, Im almost 90% sure I will come back when they release CC because urban warfare is something I wished PS had and now it will. Also I think CC will bring a few new and old people into PS.

..but will there be very few people to play with. Like, is it hard to find a big battle? 500 people per server is a bit of a joke too...

well its usually not "hard" to find a fight because you can use instant action to get to where there is some fighting or use the HART which is a space craft that you can use to go to any place on the game world except for the other teams sanctuarys. So you can find fights and people to play against and with fairly easily because everyone knows where the combat is so they go there.

I quit planetside about one month ago. The reason for me quiting was due to several factors (not ranked in any particular order):

1.) Bugs : Planetside doesn't really have many major bugs but it has several small and annoying bugs that can really get on your nerves after awhile. (among them was instant action not working 1/2 the time and hotspots not showing up on the map...)

2.) Lack of Players: When I first started playing there were tons of people. You could go anywhere and find a fight. Now it becomes harder and harder to find a battle.

3.) Balance Patches: I swear, the developers are insane. They decided to buff a weapon up, then after two weeks they nerf it to worse then it was originally (the lasher). It annoyed me that they would change it, then decide that changing it was bad so they made it worse. A huge balance patch is about to come out and several people arn't too happy about... apparently many features that were "planned" when the game was released wern't implimented until now (smaller clip sizes for certian weapons, manuverability changes, and more nerf-- er wait I mean intened features not yet implimented).

4.) Lack of patches: The developers made several promises they did not keep. Platoons should have been in the game in September, they wern't implimented yet. Also, facility benifits were promised by mid August, it wasn't until the first week in September that they were tested on the test server! There were several times where the players were mislead. Patches were too infrequent and in that game frequent content patches were definately needed.

5.) Boring: Planetside is fun, I admit, but it did get really boring after awhile. Nothing changed, there was no new content so it was easy to loose intrest. Also, when players began to leave it became more difficult to find things to do.

I wouldn't recommend planetside. It's fun at first but grows rather boring after a month or two. The lack of updates bothered me, as did the developer's lack of updates. Core Combat doesn't even include the original so new players need to shell out around $60 to get full use out of the game. Will Core Combat be Planetside's saving grace? Maybe, but I just don't care about Planetside anymore.

Dude, you need one gig of ram for that game to run smooth.  Plus it sucks anyways, don't bother.  I wont post any reasons because its been summed up already.
