City of Heroes, awesome though the general overall community was, had a few trolls too. That said, virtually everyone that had a supergroup registered was super helpful. People who knew how to edit bases etc were the best. I personally used to explain the incarnate trial strategies to newbies and help them navigate the incarnate superpower trees and whatnot. I enjoyed doing that. It made the trials more fun for me, actually.

"Well sure, the FrinkiacVII looks impressive - DON'T TOUCH IT - but I predict that within 100 years computers will be TWICE as powerful, ten THOUSAND times larger, and so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them." -Prof. Frink
I always try to help newbies as much as I can. If the game involves crafting, I offer to make weapons and gear. Sometimes, though not often, I will give them money, but there are too many players that start a game by asking for cash to get gear, which I find somewhat offensive. I have played RoM, DDO, Mythos, GW2, Mabinogi, Rohan, and a few others. We have ALL been newbies in some game at some time. Help someone new, and they will probably remember and help another new player in the future.
