Best dungeons in a mmorpg

Following the best environments in a mmorpg this is my next category.

My nomination is Everquest for the variation and design of the dungeons especially Kunark.

I nominate EQ as well ^_^. some dungeons are just so immersive and you literally can get lost and somewhat find yourself scared hehe.

agreed, I find the dungeons in WoW all pretty much similar, and theres no mazes which I think was one of the good things about EQ dungeons, you had to learn the area.

I'd say Lineage 2. The dungeons though small sometimes. Are beautiful to look at, and walk through. Very nicely designed, and most have a dark gritty look. That fits the atmosphere of Lineage 2's world perfectly.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

I cannot tell you which game has the best dungeons - but which game will have the best dungeons

    Dungeons&Dragons Online

They are more or less building the game towards having the best dungeons.

And if they fail at that - the game will be crap

I played Dungeons and Dragons for a bit and from what i can tell it seems as though the dungeons are fairly linear. It would be hard to get lost being as you get a map/radar to tell you where you are. Granted I only got to level 3 (out of 10) so I have not seen the higher level dungeons.

I would have to agree with the dungeons in Everquest. You had to learn them and as mentioned before.. you could fairly easily get lost.

Personaly, if a game doesn't have instanced dungeons I'm not intrested. I can't stand getting to the end boss only to find 10 people camping it.

I enjoyed most of the WoW ones the first time through. The problem of course with WoW is, they all turn into good old "meph runs" when you're trying to get your lvl 60 class set....and then there's molten core image

For meph run, think diablo 2 :P

I agree.  EQ1 has the best and hardest-to-survive dungeons I've seen.

The dungeons i enjoyed the most were in L2. Mostly because most look just great. They got boring though after spending several month in there getting 0,04% of the level or far less per mob.

If you're just into PvE I am sure you'll love instances. I wouldn't want to miss the exciting pvp when two big raid groups meet each other and fight it out.

I found the dungeons in lineage 2 bland and uninteresting to watch. Also most of them were barren of any detail and the mob placement simply didnt make sense.

I really like World of Warcrafts dungeons as they "make sense". Every dungeon has an unique theme and serves as a home for some demi-god or such and the enviorments reflect that. They have their lesser minions, their lieutenant (mini bosses) and finally, at the epicenter of the dungeon is the main boss.

Of all the games Ive played I would have to say Asherons Call (the original)

In AC there where acid pits, locked doors, puzzle locks, mazes, platforms to jump across, rolling balls of death just strange looking spots....you name it.

UO - Dungeon Deceit i think, or maybe that dungeon on that icy island full of white wythms & elementals, they were scary to battle if u werent a mage or archer.

Agreed, nothing got the old bloodpump going like an Everquest 1 dungeon. The trains rocked!

Best dungeons I have ever played in in any MMORPG are in EQ... it's built around dungeons. However, I did hate the constant camp fests there. But as for dungeons that really felt and looked like something you'd expect to be in? EQ was great for that.

Thats why going to the old land dungeons rocked after Kunark and Luclin were released. You had the insanity all to yourself.

Haven't played EQ1 to compare, but I love the dungeons in EQ2. I also liked Temple of the Three Winds and Foreman's Dungeon from Anarchy Online.

    Currently playing:

    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

Well people were quite tight lipped until now. NGA scare. Suddenly in this toppic i find two ACTUAL comments on gameplay in DDO!

As I said if DDO would turn out to have crappy dungeons it would not be worth a penny ...

Darkness falls was pretty good but it didn't feel like a dungeon really till you got WAY deep. Though for sheer 'tenseness' it was the best because you never knew when an enemy group would show up and attack.

    Very fun.

But the rest of DAOC's dungeons, unfortunately, aren't all that hot. I hear TOA has some pretty ones but since I don't like TOA because I'm a casual player, I'll never know :) I play on a classic server.

EQ, hands down, had the best overall dungeons. Every dungeon was unique. Every dungeon had it's own feel and mood.

I didn't play AC2 for very long, but the glyph dungeons were amazing.

So my vote goes to AC2. Lineage II dungeons were OK, but nothing amazing.

I will go with EQ for many of the reasons listed.  They all seemed individually crafted and some did have a spooky feel.

AO had some really nice dungeons, however I think a lot of people mistake the missions for dungeons.  The missions were templates, so you could see a ton of missions that all looked the same if you were in the same area.  However some of them just got HUGE.
