I first checked to see if it was April Fool's Day... then I thought it was a hoax.

I tested it LOL and I knew that after a few days of live people were gonna cancel left right over the change. What sux is while testing many players including myself sent in issues with it on just about every thing that everyones is crying about right now and for the past several weeks went unadressed before live implementation.
I agree with the veterans on this and changes in SWG, SOE/LA doesnt care what we think about the NGE. I do seriously believe had they had alot of those things fixed before live, when they launched it, alot more players would have stayed. Accept of course for the typical veterans whos response was "YOU DIDNT EARN JEDI NOOB " thing lol I think we ALL knew they were gonna cancel once jedi ran amuck on the servers. /cheer for the vets ROFL
I cancelled right after the Cu went live as that wasn't the game I wanted to pay my monthly fee for. After hearing they did another update to SWG ( NGE) I loaded up one of my old accounts to check if they finally made something I might be interested in again. Well needless to say after seeing the profession selection screen I kind of knew that even Pokemon had more diversity, still I tried it out starting from lvl 1 on the newbie station but seeing as I couldn't even program the mouse to be my main movement mode it was all but over again for me.
Also didn't like the way I had to switch out specials. Just seemed like a very clumsy way of getting from point A to B. But I can see it all "working as intended" using a "console" type game controller.
To be honest I was excited, because I thought for sure SOE was finally going to fix the game..then I tested the NGE that Friday and within the first few minutes I knew they had blown it. No collision detection and you are trying to make this game play like an FPS, using RPG combat rulesets...ummm...Houston we have a problem. Then the bugs starting appearing and you realized the UI, keymaping and everything was screwed up, the professions, the whole game. End of story, put a fork in it, this is a serious mistake to push live in two weeks...and of course since when does any game company listen to its players - never. SOE pushed that mees out and here we are today.
I seriously think SOE underestimated the backlash their community could bring down upon them. They think they're some invincible mega gaming giant...well that may have been the case 2 years ago...but this is 2005 and SOE is just a one of the fish in a huge ocean...and their fish just got a whole lot smaller with such games as FFXI, WoW, Guild Wars and Lineage II proving to be much bigger fish in the bigger scope of things.
SOE doesn't have the luxury of being Joe King MMO maker any longer and being able to set back and dictate to its playerbase and potential player base they'll like the cake SOE is serving whether it is coated in dog dung or not - because the player base just took that cake and force fed it back to SOE.
I am still optimistic the NGE could work and be great. It needs to be pulled off the servers and done right though. Not patchworked in live. That will just make it ugly and murky.
I didn't dispute the rumor when it first appeared nada that soe did at this point suprised me .
I would have expected them to do something about the inablity to find things in the game as population dwindels, i would have expected them to stream line the game.
What i didn't expect, was my reaction seeing what was on live. I didn't expect an rpg turn into a bad fps, nor did i expect all those that leave to leave and servers be bare.
I also didn't expect me to have the trouble adjusting to the extent i did. THat because it is based on something i cannot do because of rl physical movements i was left out of something i use to love.
The maner in which it was handled and lack of communication and bug fixing is the huge issues now.
Curious whether or not they would finally get it right. Re-Acitivated my account, started playing and had to realize that the general idea of the NGE might have been a good one but the way it was released was completly unprofessional. Full of game beaking bugs, no real character development, most parts of the content missing (quest 30-80, skill trees and so on), lag issues, melee combat screwed, ridicoulus respec system (full spec crafter -> cl1 combatant, but cl80 melee -> full spec crafter and so on)... Things like that should simply NOT happen in a game that has been around for some time now and that is developed and maintained by one of the biggest MMO companies in the world.
Right now, although I am a Star Wars fan and everything, I wish that SOE will fail with SWG. For one so that other companies see that customers actually are important and need to be treated like that and also to have the chance that probably a new team gets the chance to develop a better SW MMO. As sorry as I am for all the SW fans that hold on to this game - it is simply not worth the money in its current state and certainly will not be for the next couple of month...compared to what this game COULD have been and to other games that are around atm.
I was flabbergasted. I'd always known they were stupid and clueless and out of touch with the playerbase. This made me doubt their sanity. I'd thought they couldn't get any more stupid and clueless and out of touch with their playerbase, but they managed it somehow.
Never underestimate the power of SOE to screw things up. They're constantly pushing the boundaries of idiocy.
I was shocked. I mean 9 classes ? Down from 32(4) that you could mix and match(although Hybrids were hurt a bit by the CU) still that... I mean all that talk about better communication. All those things supposedly being worked on for the different classes. Player driven economy, GCW(well that was dead already)All just flushed.
I had canceled after the non-alpha testing that went on for the CU. That and how well they had at long last screwed Entertainers and non-combatants more then I thought they could have. I downloaded the Trial after the NGE was pushed live. The game isn't bad. Feels pretty star warsy those early levels. But it's certainly NOT a MMORPG. And certainly not worth $15 a month. I remember beta and beyond how much promise the game had. A mystery path to Jedi. Being able to Role play living and being part of the Star Wars universe. Catina's that were the central hub to get groups and info and what not. And then it just slowly started to circle the drain until this year when they rushed out a non-tested CU changing the game from skill to levels but only partly.(and that just doesn't work that well to dump a level game on top of a skill based game.)
It makes me sad a bit. I can only hope that SWG2 is not made by Sony and that LA does a better job of laying down guidelines but keeping their hands off so that everything doesn't get bogged down.

I really don't know what this word means, but if it relates to having or passing gas, it sure was a lot like my reaction!
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
"Oh wow. Look SOE is pretty much doing a complete revamp of SWG. I guess we will have to wait and see how it goes. I guarantee there will be a lot of doomsdayers out there before they even see it. Let's get some popcorn and go to the forums to watch!"

For someone who's site says: "Playerbase understands that supporting the community is critical". You sound like you're full of BS. Where was/is the community support in the release of the NGE?
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
I wasn't responsible for the support of the NGE, and I haven't debated more informaiton should have been pushed out to the people before it even came close to happening. I don't think SOE would debate it either. Information and communication are key, but I am not here to discuss SOEs community practices.
My site and profile doesn't say I can't have a sense of humor.
My first reaction was to simply stare at my monitor for a length of time I can't remember, wondering if I was reading right. Sounded interesting, but couldn't imagine the community accepting such a huge change no matter if it was good or bad. Then PM'ing my friends on MSN for them to check it out, as they were players (at the time) to.
I laughed, shook my head and was genuinly surprised that they could be more incompetant than i previously figured them to be. Gotta love the SOE team, just when you think they couldnt do worse, they prove us just how wrong we are.
My first reaction, was I thought someone was making a joke. I never thought they would totally abandon the best crafting game on the market, but they did.

when i read about it , honestly it looked decent on paper.
Looked ok enuff to try it again. Basically I read it to mean "ok we know the CU sucks" and thought cant be worse , boy was i wrong.

"WTF ?!"
"No way !"
"OMG, you (=SOE/LA) idiots !"
(and concerning the timing 1 day after ToOW) "Someone will have your balls on the block for that !"
After THAT I got angry.

I immediately pictured a bowl of petunias plummeting to the ground from high altitude saying "Oh no! Not again!"
I was thinking...."hmmm...now how exactly do i cancel my account?"
mine was "OH SWEET" and i quickly reinstalled the game and played the trial untill i got paid and then reactivated my old account.
