Where is this "Concept Art Reveal" that has everyone up in arms?

BearKnightBearKnight Member CommonPosts: 461

I can't find it, and not a single soul in the original thread EVER linked to it, and since it is 6+ pages now I don't feel my question would be answered....so....sorry about making a new thread asking :~).

google it, I might be wrong but I think they are talking about this one http://www.eqnextfans.com/news/25039-final-everquest-next-art-reveal ???

    everquestnext.com

    the official site....

Yes, that is probably it. I know that that picture alone has created an outrage. Firiona Vie weilding a sword and bow instead of a staff. I'm not sure wether that is an Iksar, ratonga, or gnoll, or some other random beastie, their dark elf has horns, the barbarian female looks way too small to be a barbarian.....they should have gotten someone that actually knew the EQ lore to do the picture, to be honest.

    Wait what?

That's not the concept art.....that's fan art isn't it?

That was my first thought when i came upon that so I didn't think anything of it. Maybe i should pay closer attention to the large black font saying "Concept Art Reveal" =_=.

But no seriously, THAT is their concept art?!?!?!? I've seen better done by college kids when they're bored. That looks HORRIBLE.

Also, quick question, is that supposed to be a Barbarian chick in the lower right hand corner? She's dressed like one, but is actually a half-elf. Was that on purpose?????

I'm confused, this looks like a 180 from what we saw from Fanfest :<

That artist is clearly talented. He has worked with Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard.

Don't worry. You're not the only disappointed person out there. When I first heard about EQNext, I heard it would be a game that played like the original EQ with graphics leaning towards EQ2. Instead, we get a cartoony game with open pvp that I think is classless(?). If such is the case, I'll be very disappointed. It was one thing I liked about EQ2...instead of getting cartoony like WoW, it went for the more realistic look. It was also about the story, not the PVP.

To be fair EQ2 wasn't even really "Realistic". The models looked like rubber for quite a long time.

The art-style I dug though, and enjoyed EQ2 quite a bit. However, the original Art-Style of Everquest was FAR more realistic. The problem was the graphics engine of the time, and hardware that could handle it.

I refuse to believe that "Concept Art" reveal is actually concept art, and not a co-worker's random drawing. It just looks so terrible I cannot even put it into words :(.

What everyone was talking about was mistakenly called concept art.

It is NOT. It is best classified as a "reinterpretation" of the original cover art by Keith Parkinson.

Until reveal, we have no idea if this art is actually "in the style of EverQuest Next" as was originally stated here http://media-titanium.cursecdn.com/attachments/51/515/startingraces.png.

The overwhelming hope is that this WoW-ish art is NOT representative of the game.

I think that about sums it up.

You're absolutely correct, the Blizzard art is so much better.

I'm especially fond of his cowbell nose ring.

I always said to myself, if I'm going to play a medieval fantasy game, I might as well pick a cow with huge shoulderpads and matching nose ring.

I don't see whats the bid geal about this image. It's an interpretation of the original artwork of Parkinson (RIP)

The scaling seems to be off, Kerran bigger than Ogre? Yeah Firiona is weilding a bow and a sword, maybe a hint at an open class / profession system? But apart from that, whats all the fuzz about? I can live with the artstyle, it seems to be a compromise between realistic and comic. Not too bad in my oppinion. It will let the game age better.

It's some cover artwork, nothing to get your pants up in a bunch about.

Yes we do. It matches the concept art we have. Nagafen matches the new dragon concept art (posted above) and the ogre matches the previous ogre concept art.

Don't expect things the way they were.

Also, best troll by SoE ever, I'm almost certain it was intended and a brilliant move. The only pieces of actual in game entities we have are the pre-rendered figure (assuming human) with armor. There is also the pic if an Orc from two years ago but that had none of the things you need to see its representation in game (textures, lighting, etc.)

    Well played SoE!

Great, you realize you can make anything look like shit, right? Also, that is in-game... not the same thing.

That's not on Forgelight, the environments are not the same as '10.

Maybe, but the flowers look similar to the flowers in Planetside 2.

Those screenshots are from 2010 and EQN has always been on Forgelight.

I like it, I like how his horns bring out his face, how his nose ring accentuates his nose that looks like the tailpipe of our 2010 Honda Accord, how his shoulderpads look like they were taken from the wings of a boeing 747.

    Amazing design.
