It has been about 4 years since my last PC build, and while it has given me a lot of good hours, she is getting old and run down as well as having a lot of random shut downs.
I am looking to build a new gaming PC, but have not been keeping up with current hardware, etc, so I've come here to see if you guys would be kind enough to give me a few builds. My budget is around $1000, give or take (would rather be under than over).
Essentially all I am wanting it to do is run 2 to 3 Eve Online clients at the same time with "decent" graphics. I play a few other odd games here and there, but Eve is what I play 99% of the time.
-SSD for games would be nice as I have plenty of spare hard drives laying around for storage
-I already have an OS (Windows 7 Home Premium)
-Do not need keyboard or mouse
-Do not need a monitor
-Upgraded sound would be nice as it is hooked up to surround sound
-Prefer Intel/Nvidia over AMD
That about sums it up. I greatly appreciate any help with this. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at this thread for a starting point:

That had some good information, but I am wanting to have an intel/nvidia based computer. I have never really had very good luck with AMD when I tried them out.
Edit: Also I would like the components to be able to support SLI at a later date. i.e. a power supply/motherboard/case that can handle it.

That comes to $1000.82, including shipping and before rebates.
If you really have an OS license laying around that you've never used, then you could get a bigger SSD. But you can't legally reuse the OS license from an old computer unless it's a full retail version, which is pretty rare.
Try the onboard sound before you buy a discrete sound card.
If you arent in a hurry wait till next quad channel gen get out (should be around October)also you might want to keep a look on Xbox one .especially the server end of cloud.if they use floating point, donnybrook and remote differential compression.you won't be able to get better graphic on PC.FP seem a ressoirce hog according to ms but there is so many conversion etc that floating point end up performing equal in most situation but where it truelly shine is when you look at graphic look.it is a very healthy bump in quality.if ms use what I mention?I all get an Xbox one .that is why I am waiting to see ms explaining the cloud offloading part.the console it self is less then ps4 but if ms do thing like I believe they all still be ahead of ps4 by a huge margin.we all have to wait till ms announce this before acting.
I really have no interest in consoles at this point, even if they may do things better than a PC at release. The only console I may get is a PS3 after the PS4 releases, and this will only be to play Dust514, and to use a bluray player.
Thanks Quiz.
I just had one question though; Will that PSU be able to handle being put into SLI? At some point down the road I will most likely pick up another GPU to do so, and 550w doesn't seem like it would be able to take the entire load.
Edit: And I do have a spare Windows 7 Home Premium license laying around. I never upgraded my XP to Windows 7 when they gave the free codes out.
On a $1000 budget, there's no reason to consider SLI. When it comes time to upgrade, the thing to do will be to get rid of the card you buy today and buy something newer that isn't available today. There's no sense in spending an extra $100 up front to make sure that your rig can handle SLI that you should never use.
If your going to do SLI, do it now, and be advised that you aren't going to be able to do SLI well at all on a $1000 budget.
Planning for SLI later has a few caveats. You need a better motherboard to handle SLI, which will cost money. You need a bigger power supply, which costs money. You need a case and ventilation, which costs money.
All those things cost you up front, for the chance that you may use SLI later on.
Additionally, the only time you really should consider SLI is when you can't get a single video card to go fast enough. That would mean Titan or 780 just don't have enough juice for you. And then, to get that additional power, you'd be looking at SLIing a pair/trio/quad of those cards, not a pair of 760's. If this isn't your situation, adding SLI is usually more expensive (by the time you factor in the above costs on top of the second card), has a ton of driver headaches and game compatiblities (yes, even nVidia) and will chew up more power and spew out more heat than a single card would have in the first place.
The motherboard Quiz picked out won't even do SLI -- not saying it's a bad motherboard, just saying your going to have to revise your selection more than just the power supply, and doing SLI right is not cheap.
The ~only~ time I would even consider adding SLI later to a build is if you get the second card for free and have nothing to lose by it.
Just sayin',
Upgrade editions are tied to the license they are upgrading. Unless your XP is a retail copy, it won't legally transfer. Odds are it's an OEM edition.
Not saying you can't get it to work, just sayin' so you know the actual technicalities of it before you go and do it. It's stupid, I know - Microsoft's licensing model is among the most obtuse and cumbersome, but ignorance isn't a defense.
What improvements or new build would you guys suggest? I'm thinking of doing a dual out trip-monitor set up as well (don't include monitors in the price).
Thanks in advance
I doubt I will need higher than 60fps, and I would like to run at max resolution.
The dual monitor thing is something I would be adding at a later time. I just want to make sure I have a PC that can handle it.
The reason I bumped my budget up was becuase I realized that my last PC I built lasted a little over 4 years with no upgrades. It was able to do just about everything I asked of it until it started to take a major decline in the last few months. Now it is completely shot, and I had to throw together a computer from my scrap pile to be able to get online and what not. I might as well spend a little extra now while I can, and get something that will be better during the the short/long run with little need to upgrade.
As I said I will mostly just be playing 2-3 clients of Eve Online. There are a few random games I play now and again, but they should not be all that taxing to the system. The only new release game that I would be considering playing would be Everquest Next, but who knows when that will be out.
Since my old computer is completely caput at the moment am looking to start purchasing the components next week when I get back to town from work, so any builds would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,
Wondering how you think this build would fare: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1fT8Z.
I know my top budget was $1500, but most of the build I had been looking at were extreme overkill for just playing Eve, and a few other games that are in the pipelines.
Any tweaks or concerns you guys have about it would be much appreciated.
