A Realm Reborn Graphics & Performance Comparison

Thought I would upload some graphics and performance screenshot comparisons for the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn beta phase 3. And also perhaps spark up a convo about your thoughts on it.

I go through the shots and talk a bit in this video here @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbv6zOSoUBg But I know many people dislike being directed to a youtube video so I will also post the screenshots here. (Screenshots below)

As you can see the game does look really good. The lighting seems well done. But is it just me or does the game seem... over sharpened? I'm using the ingame AA and also tested smaa, fxaa, and driver forced 8x MSAA. No matter the choice the game always seemed over crisp to me. What about you?

I know many times for beta's they wont included the 'max' texture options. And even though the game options menu says they are there, they are not. Does anyone know if this is the case for phase 3 of this beta? Id love to know.

I also found during nights darkness far off didn't look right. The transition of light that I could see, into the dark areas didn't feel smooth. More like this areas light and this area is DARK, no smooth blend from one to another I guess im saying.

Other then that i'm quite happy. For a mmo the game looks great and for me at least runs great too. Love to hear anyone else's thoughts.

Ahh so one of those "the options there but enabling it does nothing" things. Good to know!

Not all options worked on Phase 3.  AA was one of them. They are also working on getting the game to support direct x 11 so we may see even more grafical improvements.  Windows mode didnt support 1080p for example, something it will do on release. I guess in Phase 4 we will get a look at what the game really has to offer in terms of looks. Phase 4 will may also finally support sli.

Great to hear! I felt like something was missing from the graphics. Had a strong feeling options where being left  out in beta. Thanks for confirming this ;)

I can understand that. But really how hard is it for said "lower end" systems to just disable it...... Then again I do know many people who don't ever even touch there graphics setting. All I know is I want AA so bad. Getting 100+ fps maxed is pointless to me. Id rather get 60ish with nice smooth edges :D Pretty much any other type of game I always have AA disabled. MMO's are the only games I enable it just to be pulled into its world that little more.

P.S im sure it will be working by launch. And hopefully I can get the driver to force it then, and or Sweetfx.
