Do you THINK EQN will be Cartoony/Stylized now?

another one of my curious polls, after all the evidence that has been stated in these past few days... do you think that on August 2nd they will reveal a stylized/cartoony game?

Note: Please no flaming, etc. Despite all the evidence it is still speculation up to August 2nd.

I don't really care what style it is, as long as they don't do whatever is going on in EQ 1 right now with the weirdly proportioned faces that make all women horses.

It's hard to say really. While I do expect the graphics to be stylized, I'm hoping there can be a happy medium in there for people who prefer a more realistic look like this character that was shown in 2011.

Now this stuff may have been scraped, but I can definitely live with this type of look. You can tell the armor is a bit 'over the top' from the shoulders but the face and textures are not cartoony at all. I am going to rest my hopes on this rather than the art of the wallpaper they have shown.

I'm fine with the models being stylized but I absolutely do not want the textures to be. No cell shading, cartoony textures for the love of Tunare.

We already know that the art will be stylized, so I do think EQN will be stylized.

YES, it is going to be stylized to some degree for sure. The evidence for this is mounting.

First we have the reinterpretation artwork we all know (http://eq2wire.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eqnwallpaper-firiona-660x371.jpg) that originally claimed to be "in the style of EverQuest Next"
Then we have SOE saying ""The game looks unbelievable visually; it has its own style. We’re not trying to be super-realistic with it. We have our own very unique style going with it that we think people are going to like."
Then we have Dave Georgeson saying that the old concept art here (http://www.eqnforum.com/threads/eqnext-screen-shots-and-concept-art-update-obsolete-as-of-2012.11), which included quite a few realistic screens, was "completely obsolete now and are not pertinent to the current game at all."
Then we have Smedley's teaser pic (http://eq2wire.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/EQNext-June62013.jpg) displaying things like big shoulderpads and disproportionately large wrist guards.
**The only thing I've found so far that doesn't quite fit is this screen presented by Smedley (http://eq2wire.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/20110708-092438.jpg), saying things like "Notice how expressive the face is." This may suggest realistic character models.

It will be Stylized, btw i hate dev uses the word stylized to glorified "Cartoony".

The question is to what extend? will it be slightly "Stylized" like GW2 or a 180 to EQ and EQ2 like WoW Warhammer and SWTOR /puke

I doubt it, not SOEs style (well, except with that kid SW game). I think the concept art will be very similar to the first EQ.

I hope it is. Stylized tends to last longer in my opinion. Hyper realistic graphics look sad years later when they are no longer realistic. But a stylized game can still hold up years later as you never expected it to look "real".

What used to look real, doesn't anymore.

I feel the same, and it would be hard for me to believe they would scrap this type of look to go MORE cartoony. I think the armors will be a bit ridiculous but hopefully the look won't be much different than this, which I also wouldn't mind.

Stylized and cartoony are 2 totally different art directions. WoW and Wildstar are cartoony, GW2 is stylized. I suspect from the painting released EQN will be stylized but in the mode of EQ2'ish style.

It will be stylized for sure but I have seen Planetside 2 and when I think of cartoony I think of hard lines. ForgeLight may be able to produce hard lines but PS2 is very soft and that makes it easy on the eyes and also a bit more realistic. It reminds me of Vanguard a lot.

Like others have said, cartoony and stylized are not the same.

I don't really mind where they go so long as it is enjoyable to play in with little technical issues and smooth animatins.

Generally, if you are going to talk strongly about evidence, you supply it to back your claims.

Oh, also, did we really need another discussion on the art-style? I thought those other huge threads exhausted the speculation of it all.

So, if you have new info, err..*cough* evidence, to bring to the table could you please link it?

Stylized? Of course, I highly doubt they would go with full realistic unless the pre-render was just a troll.

Cartoony? I doubt it. I think the finalized look will be more realistic looking even if it's stylized realistic. That said I think how cartoony something looks is a matter of opinion.

You guys can get butt-hurt if you want, It's ok. It's typical from EQ players.

I did not say wow invented anything, but if you try to deny that the clunky over sized armor, the boots with skulls, the shoulder pad design and everything else doesn't look exactly like wow then you're just being biased or naive.

You can throw up old school eq1 pics and laugh all you want, but like it or not, that was the premium back then. It actually does absolutely nothing to debate against the fact that the art looks like wow. Goofy characters with over-sized clunky armor. Bulky models...it's weak.

I'm not knocking WoW because I enjoyed it for as many years as I did EQ, but that look and design belongs to wow. I don't wanna play somebody elses version of it. It's tricky because when EQ first game out, the rush was just about to take off. Now there are many many (most of them terrible) options out there. It will be hard to create that fresh, epic feeling again. You just won't get it making a kiddie game.

It's hilarious to me that because the shoulders and plate pieces on the pre-render are bigger than what would be seen on History Channel that it's a WoW clone. I'm not going to convince them otherwise, because it's pointless, but such a generalization off of so little seem very strange.

And this picture looks like wow to you? Because there is a skull on the boot? Well, ok. It looks more like roided out power rangers ...are those machine guns? Come on..aside from being bulky...there is next to no resemblance.

Now look at the artwork and act like you never heard of EQ. FVs apparent new weapon of choice looks like a WoW bow, as does every other over sized weapon . Hell, even the (troll I think) looks like an ORC from WoW. I dare anyone to say otherwise..I put a picture up at the top of the post

Go through that picture and point out how it resembles either EQ or somehting totally fresh and then point out how much it looks like WoW. You don't have to post your results because nobody online admits anything, but we all know.

It might not even be a bad thing, if gameplay is fresh. It's just disappointing that this is where their creative juices led them.

@ Aelious I'm not sure what you're saying? Because the shoulders ARE so big that it DOESN'T look like wow? You can't being saying that really? You're right, we have NO information on this game. We have a picture, so we debate the picture and there are a lot of people that says the "picture" looks like wow. Google it. When we get gameplay and other things then we can debate that as well. It's really not all that difficult of a concept to grasp, I'm sorry you're struggling with it.

Maybe people should just to cartwheels and talk about how awesome and unique it looks, but we all know it doesn't look unique at all.
