ROLE-PLAY
Yoiu can't do that with out player interaction and sometimes combat. Only instance play is missing the heart of DandD. I think they are loosing me and my cash and real play has not started.:(

people can role play all they want in the cities, and in their groups. If you ask me, nothing gets me out of the RP mood than getting to the last boss in a cave, only to find that someone is rushing their friend through and has killed the boss before you. Instancing the quests allow for more of a story, and for the battles and chanllenges you face to feel a litle more epic and special. Just my opinion.
ofc if u wanna combat the whole time for ur personal glory this is not the game for u
Its these externals that makes life as a DandD character fun. Having the game protect the large end quest mob is just not right to a role player at heart. You need Good vs Evil . not good vs the game, or evil vs the game.
Yes with that said; you will get player killers , beggers, kill stealers, and nonroleplayers asking and telling spoilers in open chat and the like in game. I would rather have all of this badthings to keep this game from being flat faceless nintendo video game with good graphics. Why would a 20th level wizard give 2 shits about a 2nd level thief? or killing him for cocking off for that matter? and why would this same wizard go kill a quest mob for a +1 wand? maybe to give it to his apprentice.... well all of that leads us back to one thing it depends on the Role - Player! I have come to believe that video gamers never get to work on these skills like pen and paper players.
Well since over 90% of the official DDO forum visitors are in favour of RP servers, I'm pretty sure we're going to have them!!
What Role Platying is concerned .. it's all about playing your character, not playing your profession. Give your character a history, let your imagination and acting talents have a go.
Really, if everyone is equally RP like minded, you can also RP FPS games, strategy games .. it's not about dungeons, towns, the game you play, it's about the willingness of your fellow players and you to act as if the world you play in is real. PnP D&D has no visual setting at all, it's all in your mind and has nothing to do with how exactly the game you play is dealing with quests and things. You can Rp in instanced dungeons and in towns, everywhere where you interact with your fellow players. In other words: it's all in your mind.

And here i was thinking DandD was all about sitting in a dark corner of your parents basement, drinking large quantities of mt. dew with a few [real or imaginary] friends in similar life situations while lamenting the fact that women don't give them the time of day. Throw in the extreme racial stereotyping and epic stories of racial superiority and absolute moral divisions and thats the essence of the DandD experience.
That being said, i think theres a case to make the game more solo-oriented .
