Cars and submarines in a fantasy MMO? Yeah... ill pass
I swear the more and more i learn about the game the less i want to play it. I will be honest, i had some desire to try this out due to the more sandboxy elements, but between posts ive read and that horrendous E3 video... /shudder

Submarines are cool and all, but do they not care at all about the integrity of the medieval fantasy world they are trying to create. It won't stop me from playing, but I do find it extremely disorienting and weird.

I have to agree with you here. If it's fantasy, it needs to stick to fantasy. When I first heard about AA I was excited, yet now they're putting in modern technology in a game that's supposed to be fantasy. It takes away from the feel and atmosphere that I like. They should just add chainguns and rocket launchers, as well as body armor and riot shields and go all out.
The reason the term is used SANDBOX is because a sandbox in real life is a box with a bunch of tools in it to build and create something around you, and if you want, you can destroy and rebuild that world in different ways. You can not do this in Archeage with ANY system. And no, just because there are ZERO real sandboxes out there on the MAINSTREAM market doesn't mean there aren't sandbox type games out there. There are a few indie ones, and a couple more coming. But lets say for the sake of argument that those titles ARENT there, or ARENT coming out, how does the amount of or validity of those same titles being sandbox in the mmo genre have ANY effect on if THIS particular game is considered a sandbox or not? Also curious, how does the amount of "models" that each ship has? Do you even understand what Sandbox means?
It doesn't so stop trying to compare apples and oranges. Also I find it funny that as someone who is playing the game, enjoying it you are still arguing with me like I am trying to hate on the game, not hating on it. Its good fun! If you want a mix of DAoC and WoW this is the game for you! But it sure wasn't what I thought it was going to be by reading this forums, which was a niche sandbox with "SOME" theme park elements.
Not sure why you are so wound up about this semantic point. Whenever I look around this forum I see people calling AA a sandpark not a sandbox.
The most I see is people saying it is "more sandboxy then mainstream MMOS". I don't see the sales job here that you claim to see.
I don't even PLAY AA as it's not ported to NA yet, I just study the videos, player guides, and boards because I think I might try it when it comes out.
Having played Wurm Online, yes I am very much aware that there are games that are significantly more sandboxy than AA.
nice try but no one is wound up, if you don't want to debate or talk about a subject then why bother posting in the forums at all? Sorry if my thought out responses are too long and in depth for you to be able to read through but I am here for discussion, if you aren't and just want people to agree with you then you found the wrong poster

WurmOnline isn't more sandboxy it is a sandbox mmo, as for Archeage its a sandpark mmo .
So yeah I agree with you about Archeage which is a hybrid like Age of Wushu.

The problem is your "thought out responses" include broadsides against imaginary enemies.
An MMO is sandbox-y to the extent that it embraces User Generated Content.
In mainstream MMOS, your toon itself is pretty much the only UCG. In a tiny handful of MMO's you can alter almost everything about the world using fairly fine-grain building blocks.
Everyone agrees that AA embraces UCG significantly more than the first kind, and significantly less than the 2nd kind.
I don't see anyone in this forum trying to mislead people, but feel free to identify posts you consider deceptive.
WurmOnline isn't more sandboxy it is a sandbox mmo, ....
...
This is a semantics thing that comes up a lot.
Some people use sandbox and themepark as binary terms, some use them as qualified terms
I think the 2nd camp (the camp that says a game can be "more sandbox-y" than another) is the useful camp.
This is because there are many different kinds of user generated content, and some games will grant more freedom in one area while other games will grant more freedom in another
ie, you can't terraform in Ultima Online or Eve, does that mean they are not sandboxes?
You can make a 3D multi-level underground maze in Minecraft, but you can't in Wurm Online. So is Wurm Online not a sandbox?
You can only build houses in certain places in Darkfall, does that make it a themepark?

It is not just a fantasy game... It is also steam punk. Sorry you can't have yet another generic fantasy MMO. Sorry you don't like the steam punk aspect of the game that has been in since day 1. SORRY!

Nothing you say is going to change his mind. That's why I stopped responding to him. It seems like no matter how many times I told him the game is a hybrid "sandpark" he would just go on a rant about how the game is not a sandbox...
I would give up trying to get through to him, it will save you a lot of time and energy.

Did you mean to quote this post? I agree with your sentiment but SavageHorizon is a different person from Koroshiya.

Yes it seems as though I have indeed misquoted. Thanks for pointing it out =p
