Does anyone remember this rumor from last year? I never see it come up anymore. Has it been proved false?
" More changes coming from SOE.
Everquest Next had two pre-production builds proposed.
one build was extensive with a large budget of 100 million dollars. It was Everquest on steroids, thats its nickname around the water cooler.
the other build proposal is extremely casual. Its known around the cooler as everquest invades farmville. its budget is very small, 20 million dollars.
the farmville version was approved.
in addition, more cuts are coming within SOE. Several hundred subcontract workers have 6 month contracts expire december 31st. They will not be renewed
basically the team that was working on the Everquest on Steroids build lost the contest and is being let go
yes, it was kinda considered a contest. the better build got the money, the loser build employees got fired essentially. quite an incentive program by SOE.
If you are an Everquest fan, dont expect a true sequel. the farmville version is going to be designed for the young 19-24 facebook / hip / young san francisco up and coming executives type of people. "

Hmm, Farmville + EQ actually sounds really appealing.
The $20 million part.... not so much. At least make us kick-butt monsters, player races and construction pieces.
That rumor is 3 years old, and Smedley said it was BS.
Nevermind, I was thinking of the free realms clone rumor. lol I remember this rumor as well, I also think it's garbage, we'll find out soon though, I guess.

The thing is, I can't find anything on SOE commenting on this rumor directly. *shrug* I guess that is why it just faded away.
I hate Farmville. But I love farming games. So much so that, should they have included a powerful and engaging (read: Harvest Moon) farming profession to that game I will, without question, be playing it no matter how bad it is otherwise. At least until my farming love is sated, and that portion of the game is not tied into the progression side of the game. If it had its own, separate, progression I would certainly be with that game until it was seen through.
Looking at it in this way, I can absolutely say that such a thing belongs in EQN. Its a great ideal that would bring people into a game that, otherwise, is not for them. If they were allowed to play an integral role inside the game's economy then it works even better. It means that you have not one, but many games...all of which work together to make one great game.
