I doubt that.
It is. Go play it yourself.
There's nothing on the market with more depth, more content and gets more dev attention than GW2. It also broke away from a lot of repetitive MMO tropes and innovated / did something different in many areas.
Also the best done siege warfare MMORPG ever.
Larger than Skyrim sized open world. Multiple starting cities. Extremely customizable classes. A great combat system. Amazing visuals, Detailed story/lore...
Really, there hasn't been an MMORPG in the past 10 years that has come close to the size and quality of GW2.
Feel free to look at my sig for games that I have to reference from personal experience. I'm not saying GW2 is for everyone, no game ever is. But in terms of the amount of stuff it offers, quality of the product, it's new ideas, it's challenge, etc.... It's worth the box price of $49.99. It is objectively the best done MMORPG in the past decade.

EQN will be good, but it will be no different than any other game releases imho. Current mmorpg gamers want that "first kiss" feeling they got when WoW/EQ first came out. I don't think we will ever have that again. We play new releases for a couple weeks, and it is missing that awesome feeling we had all those years ago and we look for something else.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

No...not really. I am not sure how you could compare it to WoW. WoW actually grew after release. I am not a huge fan of WoW, but even I can admit that. GW2 was just another flash in the pan.

WoW grew because there was no or very little competition. As it stands, the genre is flooded with fantasy mmorpgs. GW2 is the first that I know of that has kept going strong, even with all the other games available. New releases in the past years have closed servers a few months after release, GW2 is still heavily populated with not a single server closure. Your "flash in the pan" is probably not a good analogy imho.
If EQN comes close to this achievement I will be very impressed. I look forward to the release as any new game, but it has a huge challenge in this genre.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
EQ Next could have made serious cash if they went buy + sub. Everyone is going to want to check it out, now they are letting everyone play it for free. Also the "free-ness" from a marketing perspective makes the game feel cheap without knowing anything about the game. I know I was not the only one who didn't take GW2 seriously enough to buy it because the lack of subscription made me leary.
You better plan on giving up the mmo genre then completely unless you're going to play ARR - because you aren't going to see subscriptions anymore period

Nah already down to 8.3 million and still bleeding
You know what impresses me 60 million World of Tanks players. No PvE, just PvP.
As one of those 60 million "World of Tanks players" along with my ex-wife, and my daughter (my son registered us and downloaded it onto our computers to show us the game) I would not be impressed with that number. None of use actually played the game for even one minute. My son played it for about six weeks and moved on.

Yeah, the World of Tanks numbers aren't that impressive. League of Legends numbers are much more impressive.
And if anyone thinks any MMO is going to take a majority of WoW's subscribers they are fooling themselves. People play WoW because they like WoW, not because they like MMOs and WoW is the only good one. EQnext will not even come close to the same numbers. Especially if it's being billed as a sandbox, the younger generation do not like those kinds of games.

I did play it. Its been uninstalled for quite awhile now. I had much more fun with games like Rift, STO, TSW, Neverwinter and, yes, WoW. Hex and Wildstar are the only upcoming MMOs I'm looking forward to.

my new WoT clan has many members with 500+ hours and most of us buy stuff from the store.. so it can't run too shabby for the devs

Not even close. That game was a classic example of over-hype. Don't get me wrong it was fun. I leveled a couple characters to 80, but in the end all it was was the same old tired formula given to us in a slightly different way. Crafting was boring and all you can do after that is combat.
EQN will be the MMO that truly changes the genre. Player driven worlds are the future. Being able to build and change the world - now that sounds amazing. Kudos to Arenanet for giving us a fun game to kill some time, but I feel EQN will truly be something special.

You have no interest in this game at all...
.....yet here you are posting in a thread about a game you have no interest in at all, recognize how people are hyping it, are aware that no substantial info. for it has been released, and criticize the op position of how well he believes the game will succeed. You sure know a lot about a game that you have zero interest in. Don't look now, but you ARE interested.
Maybe the numbers don't back it up, but isn't the feeling in the air that MMORPG's are a dying genre? Or at this point, a niche genre?
In the middle 2000s, MMORPG's were pretty much the top thing along with FPS's. FPS's have stayed near the top in large part due to the amount of people who play Call of Duty casually and competitively, but it feels like MMORPG's are in a worse state than the middle 2000s.
But then you come across the increasing amount of people becoming addicted to cell phone/tablet games, the power League of Legends has in the gaming world right now. League is only going to kepe growing for atleast a few more years in my opinion, maybe longer. They add a decent amount of new champs they can milk it for awhile, and the competitive scene is large and 90% of the time the top 4-5 stream numbers on twitch all belong to League of Legends and maybe one Call of Duty or speed run stream by Cosmo or Siglemic.
In a world where streaming is such a popular tool right now, MMORPG's typically aren't stream friendly unless you're super famous like Reckful. MMO's just arent as entertaining to watch as Fighting Games (Smash Bros Melee @ EVO, anyone?) or League of Legends and other games.
There are so many MMORPGs out there and sometimes its hard to agree on the same game as friend(s) they might like a MMO that you dont like. And before it was like, if you played an MMO you played Everquest or WoW, it was incredibly easy. It was a two game decision. Now its like a 20-30 game decision.
I'm going to try EQN, but it feels like MMORPG's are niche now and that there are so many it hurts the market more than it does help. More options doesnt always equal better

I think EQN will be a lot of fun for a lot of people; but I don't believe for a minute it will be anything on the scale of WoW. WoW is an anomaly in the RPG gaming world. It has reached a critical mass that no other game can touch. More developers need to think small and build over time instead of trying to kill the king out right. (King is meant as a size factor, because it definitely is not even on my radar of top games fun wise)
Repetitive content that is pvp is key. I am not talking end game but mini games that are played throughout the game. These games are part of the social atmosphere and make the game a lot more immersive. Mini games such as sports, card games or evn war game scenarios that act like stray games.
In contrast an only pve, or raid end game competes with wow and takes a lot of time for devs to create and is not as repetitive as pvp content.
So mini games, good combat, a good mmo engine, and the basic mmo features of pvp, duel arenas, tournaments, pve, npc's alignment as am extra, raids and completion for raid completion, puzzles as a desperate mini game, social tools lfg etc, and synchronizing alting to be easier than the ptevious attempt and linking long term rewards like player housing would be a solid foundation. From that they can have a lot of time to build an mmo. Since players can be busy with competitive raids and doing nightmare modes or playing mini games for fun, or pvping.
That's how it's done. Adding something niche is nice but its about repetitive content and not just at end game but along the way. Since it synchronizes the want and benefit of alting.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble

Really? Please tell me there is sarcasm in there, a lot of sarcasm.
Either that or someone is indulging in a serious fantasy. Maybe in a month or two someone could get excited enough to make this sort of statement but at the moment it is complete fantasy.
Even MMORPG said they hadn't seen an MMORPG like EQNext before, or something along those lines. But wait till they release the info I know EQNext is gonna be amazing Even MMORPG.com were excited about it, and they don't get excited often.
MMORPG also said that 'SWTOR was the future of mass online gaming'. There's a reason they call this place 'the idiot shillsite' you know.

Mini games take away from the immersion for me. I want a world that is persistent and I'm not having to leave to go to a BG. A battleground doesn't have any bearing on a game world once the game is over. I want combat to matter; if my guild destroys your guild in combat then it better be because we destroyed your guild castle and you now have no place to live.
I understand that from a business point of view your ideas make sense, but then it changes from being an mmoRPG to just being a bunch of mini games. I equate that to enjoying a table top game with a few friends, and then we all leave to play CoD, come back for another session of table top for an hour and then go play Halo on our Xbox. Neither CoD or Halo have any bearing on our table top game. MMORPGs need to get away from mini games that are outside the main game as a genre goes.

EQ was reigning Western champion mmo for 5 years before wow
the "this underdog mmo will dethrone King XXX" thread is timeless
I saw the same threads for years pre WOW about dethroning EQ
- Anarchy Online will dethrone EQ
- DAOC willl dethrone EQ
- AC2 will dethrone EQ
- Final Fantasy XI will dethrone EQ
- Shadowbane will dethrone EQ
- Horizons will dethrone EQ
Lineage 1 and 2 had more subs than EQ but players were comparing Western subs

Well I certainly hope it's something to be excited over.
Fortunately we're not far off from Aug 2nd now. It's friday of next week
