When FF14 came out however long ago, I purchased 2 CE's (one for me and one for my wife). She couldn't start playing for a while, so I opened mine and began playing. I tried and tried to like it, but I hated it. We never even opened hers.
I know I still have her sealed CE, I just put my hands on it. I'm not sure if I kept my opened box though, but I would think it's bound to my account, so no biggie, right?
Anyway, my question is, does this do anything for us at all? Or are the 2 games completely unrelated as far as that goes? I haven't been keeping up to date on ARR, and have only recently taken an interest. Do we still need to purchase ARR? Does any of the CE bonuses of the original apply?
Or do I just start from scratch buy purchasing 2 new boxes of ARR when it's released, and create new accounts and all of that?

I bought the originall CE as well, and subbed for one month. However I threw away the CE box and the information that went with it. Although I still have my SE account associated with it. Does this mean I'll have to buy the new release or can I still get in using my old account?
Also it seems that they updated SE site so my old account has been "updated" and now says it was only created last week rather than years ago. I'm wondering if they did this to invalidate people like me.
Do I need to register FFXIV using the code on the old box in order to get the benefits of being a original purchaser/player?
Thanks guys. That sounds excellent. I'm sure I was subbed for 3+ months even though I didn't play that long. I forget to cancel my subscriptions from time to time.
As for my wife, I would assume that her CE wouldn't be applicable since it was never activated?
To clear up a couple of things.
1)Both CE's are still valid you will have to wait to register the unopened CE though (last I checked registration of game keys isn't open yet). Yes you will get ARR for free plus the digital CE version of ARR and some free time at launch there has been some debate wether it will be 2 weeks or the usual full month.
2) You may or may not get legacy(discounted sub) depending on when you subbed you can check if you go to the SquEnix site and look up your service account and it will say legacy account on that page.
3) If you have a 1.0 char you will want to look into transferring that char off the JP servers right away as I think the deadline to do so ends soon. That is also if you want to play your 1.0 char and not start fresh.
Well I was able to log into my account. I couldn't find any type of payment history as it seems it only keeps a log of the current year, which of course, billing hasn't happened at all in 2013.
All of my services show "registered" which apparently isn't the same as "cancelled". So I don't think I ever cancelled billing.
But I do not see anything anywhere that would indicate CE ownership, nor Legacy. I'm still looking, but I think I've been over all the areas so far.
Square Enix account management: https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/login?cont=account
Once logged in under :"Services and options", click "Select service" then click "FFXIV". For me that pops up a little window say that I have an active account with legacy which is a little black and red meteor badge. If you then click "Options list" it will show any characters associated with your account and any permanent items registered to your account like the 1.0 CE items.
Also that page states that yes registering new keys isn't active right now as well for your wife's CE.
Thanks! Mine says nothing about Legacy. It shows my character apparently "ended" on Jan 5, 2012. It does show under "permanent options" that I have FFXIV for Windows and the Onion Helm. So I guess that's ok.
you had too be subed for least 3 months thier a FAQ about how too get it even thu cut off date was think june 2012 forget

Applications site is down but will re-open when beta 4 (open beta) starts. If you already have a code via email you can register it by looking on the lodestone and going to the appropriate site before July 30th.
Head start is for people who pre-order or have legacy accounts. So since you already have copies of the game if you want to you can hit up Amazon order two copies get your pre-order codes then cancel your order that will work plus get you the pre-order items (fair warning I haven't done this so I don't know the exact details I have just heard of others doing it in these forums).
For your wife it would be the exact same.
Thank you.
