This SWG exile needs a new game

Hey guys, I'm a recent SWG exile and I'm having trouble finding any other appealing MMO's. I'm hoping to stick to the sci-fi genre rather than elves and such. Eve looks promising but the lack of a ground game kind of turns me off. So does anyone have any suggestions for any current or upcoming games? Or better yet anyone hear if the rumors of a third party company buying the pre-CU code was true.

I don't know if there is anything out right now that can help fill that void. Anarchy Online is free as of now and it is Sci-Fi'ish. It's really grown leaps and bounds from it's former self.

I am really looking forward to Tabula Rasa, which isn't due out for some time now, But was built by a few of the guys that worked on the original UO who in tern left to create SWG. Tabula will be heavily instanced, but looks like it may break the mold that these other games have settled into.

    Good Luck

    Sci-fi you say?

    AO, obviously

Vendetta Online- Kinda like the space bits in SWG.

    Planetside?

I was thinking of looking at Matrix online until I found out it's another SOE deal. I might have to take a look at AO. I'm on the fence about Vendetta Online. I'm trying to get away from the SWG FPS abortion it's become. But thanks for the tips, I appreciate the info.
I was thinking of staying away from MMO's for a bit after SWG, but I'm spending way too much money at Barnes & Noble & Amazon. I need something to do in my downtime. Oh well...

Same here, and I prefer sci-fi, but don't mind a good fantasy game if it meets what I'm looking for. Yes, Eve Online good but no ground game. What I liked about SWG was that I could have a physical house to leave something of myself behind in the game when not online.

Even fantasy, is there any good game that will let me have a HOUSE/HOME, a physical thing (not logical on some door like EQ2) that will let me live a life in the game, not just jump in and fight then leave?

If you're willing to give Fantasy a go I highly recommend DAOC... I returned to DAOC after NGE came out. RVR in DAOC is pretty much what I wish PVP in SWG had been. And the PVE game is quite good as well.

If you're stuck on Sci-Fi the most old-style SWG-like experience out there is AO... just something about AO I could never get into though... possibly the level grind.

Another good one to try is Ryzom... It's got the right feel but for me was the wrong playstyle... it's gog JUST enough 'sci fi' to it to not be 100% fantasy....

EVE, of course, but it has no ground game or housing if that's what you're into... though you can build a POS (personally owned station) if your corporation has the clout to pull it off.

Other than that there aren't many options that will feel at all like SWG.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

I would suggest CoV, there are plenty of elements of Sci Fi present with the type of character you make...  DAoC is supposed to be fun, as is Eve but both of these games are more out-dated than CoV, and CoV is gearing up for events for the holidays and PvP is turning out to be pretty fun...  A lot of people ask for a Ninja game, Sci Fi game and to some extent, a different Fantasy game...  CoV has all of that with the concept of your character being able to fall into any one of those three categories...  I have played them all, and my CoH/CoV account has been the only one immune to the cancel button, it is simply too good of a game to give up...

    My two cents...

    I have to agree

Its a def difference between many of the mmorpgs and since you came from SWG you may want something similiar and different than the typical elf MMO

I too feel the void since leaving SWG. If only something could come close to the way SWG was when it first started. Tabula Rasa looks like it might be fun. I have played EVE online, but like others have said, it lacks a ground game. Who knows, maybe EVE someday will incorporate a ground game. If they do, I will definitely go back!

Well I'm downloading AO right now. You can't get screwed with free gameplay. If it works out then I'll get the expansions and open up a regular account. Thanks for all the input guys/girls. I really appreciate it.

AO is the only MMORPG that I know of that probably is more detailed then SWG..But its a shell of its former self.. Devs in MMORPG's seemed determined to destroy what they make and turn away customers.  THey did this in AO which with one horrible expansion and it went down hill from there... There is a reason why its free now you know....  Anyways its probably still a good game but nothing near as good as it used to be pre Shadowlands Expansion

Some other titles I would suggest are:

RF ONLINE- Open Beta comming very very soon... RVRVR pvp.. looks pretty fun going by the pictures and vids.

COV- Lots of people online..Nice combat system.. good vs bad PVP with base raiding.

Face of Mankind- Open beta right now.. Will be having a character wipe very soon if not already...

    SCI FI MMORPGFPS.

These are just some that you can play now or in the very near future...

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
