At least i found it awesome to be able to be able to tank huge bosses solo if you where able to perfect the shield reaction. Would be great to see that in ffxiv, i am ok with the way the combat is now, expect the lack of active skills and such. I just like the way tera complement skills and reaction instead of the buttonsmasher ffxiv is

........... Slamming FFXIV for being a button masher, while praising Tera really builds credibility and makes me want to engage in words with you.

Not that I was a big fan of Tera's combat, but as a warrior tank you pretty much had to keep moving.  I don't see that happening in FFXIV battles.  Whatever her class was, she actually WAS mashing buttons.

I fully respectfully disagree, if anything, tanking in FFXIV is far from standing there. do not count the first instances please but all these 30+ instances required all tanks to constant moving.

Maybe moving out of ground aoe pools, but movement to avoid hits?  I doubt it.  In action combat the tank is moving out of the hitbox.  In rng combat that is decided by the roll of the die.  Most every single RNG combat game executes a skill whether the player moves or even hits LoS.  If the attack launched while the player is able to be hit, then that play will be hit no matter how far they run and "dodge".  So if this game has active hitboxes and dodging then I would need to see proof before I believe it because that is virtually unheard of for rng tab-target combat.

aah to be honest I did not play Tera and did not know the concept of action MMO until you lay it down here. but if thats the case, you will never like FFXIV. it has action elements, but there are many other elements as in would you move? would you use ability to counter?

I for my self would hate playing Tera or any action MMO as I really dislike that you can just move to get away from spell etc. also would make the game very heavily ping dependent which wont work in MMO. in fact on of the main advantage I find in FFXIV for me since I live far away from Canada is the fact there is a GCD and the battlesystem framework in general, it help level the field between 100-300 pings

General observation, not directed at anyone in particular:

Since literally mashing buttons is utterly pointless in both of these games, maybe it's time to come up with a better, more descriptive term of what it is you're actually doing instead of 'mashing', ideally one that is more suited to describe the differences without being derogatory of whatever the other game is that you like less?

Sorry for aiming for a higher bar i guess? If everyone praised this title what would the use be of opinions? Why doesn't everyone play this game. Everyone is going to have their views. I played the beta for 3 days that's just me.. Then went on vacation lol didn't play it since. It just is not my game I would prefer WoW over this but that is my opinion different tastes. Just not my flavor.

Did not like the combat. I just didn't.

I did not like the questing i found myself just trying to power through it where i would usually follow the story. Felt like it was lacking.

    Not my game.

I prefer everyone try it though my taste is different. Felt like my days playing Aion.

Tone them down, then. Those effects can be customized to be displayed in different ways: all the effects from all the players/NPCs, some of them, just party members, etc.

The flashy effects are used to cover up the lack of immersion and action.  Take them out and you have a bunch of toons standing around barely moving and spamming a single attack every few seconds,

It is a bit like putting makeup on a black eye.

actually there is alot of movemeant underneath the flshy but it looks cooler with it

compared to FFXI maybe; not compared to any other MMO thats come out in the last 5 years.
