The core of the game is the PvP experience, however there are no lower forms of combat such as dueling one on one with other factions. Most of the PvP combat in RF Online takes place in the form of large group oriented skirmishes and battles. The key element to RF Online takes the form of Race Wars, when all three factions take part in massive wars which unfold several times a day. Each race does battle to take control of the Talic Mines where rare materials can be extracted from the mineral rich earth.
The Game - is different from many MMORPGs in that there is very little low-end content. This is because levels 1 - 29 are pretty much a training course for when you finally reach level 30. Furthermore, there is no truly diverse class system at low levels; everything is strictly reserved for high level (level 30+) content. Upon reaching 30, you'll be able to finally choose a class which uses its own set of unique abilities and functions which are important to victory in the Mine Wars.
What also makes RF Online stand out is the Point (PT) System which is used in training up your character. As you level up, you'll find that your character has a set number of PTs that can be learned for a skill at that level. The good thing is you can train up any of your abilities without penalty. So a Warrior can train up Force (Magic) as a Ranger can training up Melee weapons. You are not restricted to one set of weapons. The downside is that if you fail keep your PTs well developed and trained, they will quickly fall behind in level until you can no longer use that ability at all. If abilities get too low in PTs, they will constantly miss, and you only gain PT points when you successfully hit.
Combat - in RF Online is fast paced and interesting. You'll find that there is very little downtime, as the game's primary element to battles are Potions. Potions can be purchased in large amounts and can be used quickly in succession. This allows you to take on powerful creatures more easily using a technique popularly known as "Potion Spamming". This is why one on one combat is near impossible in the Race War, for it will simply depend on whom has the most potions, not to mention if your opponent has the ability to recall back home then they can just flee before death. In war, this is why great numbers matter.
Late Game - you'll find yourself joining forces with fellow players to take down much larger forms of prey, such as Pit Bosses. These are very powerful creatures which offer some very rewarding spoils for the effort. Not everyone can take down Pit Bosses, and certainly not alone -- so gathering a raid party is crucial. There are other forms of boss battles which can be found within Instance Battle Dungeons, but more information will be offered on that as it develops.

Accretia - Responsible for the great war, this race is entirely populated by flesh hating machines. The Accretians are by far the tallest, most durable, and the sleekest looking of the three races. Unlike the Cora and the Bellato, the Accretians do not use magic. Instead, they use very big and very powerful weapons called Rocket Launchers. There are many types of launchers and each can use a wide variety of elemental and status effect ammunition. These very powerful weapons are the key to Accretia's might, and without them they would be dramatically outclassed.
Siege Cannons - are the most powerful weapon the Accretian arsenal. At level 30, the specialized Gunner class gain access to using this most destructive weapon in the form of Siege Kits. Siege Kits are used with Rocket Launchers, and when activated they transform both weapon and arm into a massive super cannon which will obliterate anything in its path.
Accretian Class Tree - consists of three primary branches: warrior, ranger, and specialist. No player is restricted to only one tree of development, at level 30 you can choose from any of the more advanced classes, however keeping in line with your given development tree offers greater benefit in the long run.
Cora Class Tree - consists of four primary branches: warrior, ranger, spiritualist and specialist. No player is restricted to only one tree of development, at level 30 you can choose from any of the more advanced classes, however keeping in line with your given development tree offers greater benefit in the long run.

Weapons & Armor - in RF Online is rather limited compared to other games. There is no broad selection to choose from with a wide range of different values; actually the game is quite straight forward and simple. Most low end armor looks alike, the only thing that sets them apart are the level requirements, PT requirements, and whether or not the piece is special or rare. When you start reaching much higher levels in the game the armor starts to look dramatically more appealing, allowing a good bit of comfort value for the player. Sadly no form of armor customization has been implemented yet; all you can do is simply upgrade your choice pieces of armor using various rare materials acquired through mining.
If anything, RF Online provides some very appealing looking equipment. Depending on which race you choose, you'll find that each has a unique look. No race looks alike, and when you are on the battlefield there is no doubt who is friend and who is foe. Even though equipment of the same level looks exactly alike, there are different values which can be found in the form of rare pieces. Rare armor can either just drop on rare occasion or be obtains for through more complex methods, liking taking out some very powerful monsters with a party.
Most everything is upgradeable. You can obtain materials to upgrade weapons and armor from Mining, which is another reason why capturing the mine for your race is such a highly sought after goal. However, no matter how much you mine, you can only collect the rare materials when you process the ore you mine, which can be costly. Crafters in the game can create some of the more powerful Equipment and Ammo, which at first can be quite costly, but in the end may very well prove to benefit not only yourself, but also your entire race.

The Mine Wars - are a very important part of RF Online and one of the reasons why it is somewhat unique. All three races share access to the Crag Mine Field, which is an anything-goes area. Simple in design, the Mine field consists of four important points: the three Race Teleports and the Core. The Core is where the great Holy Stone Keeper resides; he guards the most mineral rich section of the map. The Core can be found upon entering the bowels of the mountain, where on the lowest floor a passage which leads to a chamber overflowing with ore.
It is the ambition of each race to gain access to the Core, and the only way to do that is to destroy or heavily damage enemy Chips when a given war begins. Chips are what determine the victor of each War, the race with the least damaged Chip is the winner for a short period. If you race doesn't win the war, you can still mine. However, you will not be under the watchful eye of the Holy Stone Keeper.
Mining - is very easy to do. Just either receive or purchase a mining tool and a battery and proceed to the Crag Mines. You can mine anywhere outside of the mountain, and the closer to you are to the center of the map, the more output you will receive. When you mine you mine for raw ore, and there are many different kinds of ore. For starters, ore comes in multiple colors. When you process the ore of a certain color, it will produce materials which can be used to upgrade or create components which are related to that ore. Such as Red Ore yields components to create and upgrade Fire Arms as Black Ore yields for Melee weapons and armor.
The closer you are to the Core, the more often your ore will produce rare materials when processed. You'll often come across Talics which can used to upgrade your equipment. Mining can also be seen as one way to continue making money when you are not truly playing the game. For example, you can pack your character with a few battery packs and set out the Crag Mines. Then you can start mining, and you will continue mining until your battery packs run out, your inventory becomes full, or you get killed by an enemy race. You are not really needed for the process: it's fully automatic.
Crafting - goes hand and hand with mining, since the most important materials can only be found from processed Ore. At low levels, this can be quite a costly endeavor, for not only does it cost a great deal to process ore, it also takes a lot of repetitive item construction to build up your Crafting PTs. As the items you produce increase in quality, the higher the demand is for plenty of processed material. So to be a successful Crafter you have to spend a lot of time in the Crag Mines. It's important to note that only Specialists can craft items and ammo, no other class can do it. This because High End Crafting yields very powerful player-made items which would give more battle driven classes the edge. Allowing those very same classes to make the equipment would lower the value of the Specialist and shun cooperative player economy.
