People on the official website don't seem at all happy with the skill tree.  Now that scares me when the fanboys don't like it.   After looking at hte skill tree I have to agree with these posts that say the skill tree looks like it was made by a third grader.   I assume your jaw dropped from how bad it looks?  I can't imagine anyone is happy by this other than that they released some information.  Here are the first three threads I saw on the fanboy website.

Here is the skill tree.  Its better than nothing.

I spent my 5 minutes looking for more pages or other downloads after I opened it. I can't believe they had the audacity to tease us with the promise of info then release that piece of crap.

The real scary part is that these are the same people who are writing the quests for DnL and SoG. /panic

No need to apologize dude, I been taken for a ride or two myself..Mourning...UO2...sigh

anyway back to DnL that tree is kind of sparse, I wonder how many of the fan boys will carry through with their threats to get a refund for the pre order? Lots of discontent floating around over on the forums tonight.

There is still hope.  The real test of a game IMO is its combat fun.  It might not look good right now.  But there is always hope.  While my expectations are very low.  I am still excited about tommorow even if I am little embarrassed that I wasted may have wasted money on the pre-order.

    FYI:

They are SoG skills which are represented in general terms  i.e. The "Survival Abilities" is a general term for many skills within Survival... keep in mind this is not a finished set of skills, that was the whole idea of SoG to develop them over time.

But I see people are judging it as a finished product already, doesn't look good in the crowd control department.

This skill tree is very depressing. But Im gonna think positive this time, the game could still be very well done.....I hope

Hmm... after about an hour or two of nearly everyone on the official forums flaming the devs the website went down. I'm actually surprised it took that long. The first 15 minutes spawned about 10 threads and hundreds of posts about how horrible the skill tree was, how the devs had lied to the player base, how 6th graders could have done a better job, how the pioneers wanted their money back and so on. They needed some serious damage control - and fast. I don't know why it took them two hours to disable the site. By that time, the first two to three pages were full of new threads complaining, condemning, worrying, etc. with only a handful that were actually optimistic. I actually found it quite funny to see all those pioneer's freaking out about wasting their money. You think they would have thought about that before they spent $60 on a game no one (who can talk about it) has ever played.

I'm not a fanboi or a hater of this game. I've been waiting for it for a long time. I was really excited about it at first, but as time went on and the devs kept lying to us (repeatedly promising us info on or by a certain date, then postponing it) I started to loose faith. Especially when they promised us info about SoG during the first part of November and promised that it would be released in November, only to keep us waiting till the last part of November for info and postponing the release date till December. Not that I couldn't wait for the release, but they'd lied to me one time too many. Also, as time went on and no new information was released, the graphics (especially the character models) failed to impress and no one who had actually played the game could talk about it (cuz of the NDA), it got harder and harder to get as excited about it. So I kinda feel like the devs are getting what they deserve with everyone flaming them, since they've treated us so miserably over the last year or two. But anyway, I'll still try it tomorrow. It would be great if it didn't suck, but at this point I'm not holding my breath. I was just so excited about this game when I first heard about it...

Well lets just say that I expected more - taking into account that the game was supposedly ready in April 2005 and postponed to November mainly to polish some parts of the game.
And now, so close to the release of SOG, they show us this sad excuse of a skill tree...thats very very dissapointing.
Not even does it look like a 5 min job - it is also not what I understand under "skill tree"...no descriptions on special effects, cool down timers, endurance/mana costs...
I mean...Hello! this game is going to be launched tomorrow (or on Saturday)...and those guys dont even have a full description of key compnents of the gameplay

Get a free key and log in with that one. In the grey area ethics wise, but what they did is a lot farther in the grey area ~shrug~

the game was supposed to be release summer 2003. Seems as if for the last 2 years they concentrated on perfecting the hang gliding and snow boarding. Looks to me as if they forgot completly about the main focus of the game and are attempting to cobble a MMORPG on a nice hang gliding simualator.

so when exactly do these free keys come out? I do not want to miss the show.  If I get one I'll share it with you jackdog. Laughing together is always better than laughing alone.  :/

Settlers of Ganareth is the free (mini?) version until Light & Dark is released. Pre-order people (Pioneer) get to register & keep names, SoG has a limit on "bandwith & access" that shouldnt apply to pre-order people.

Apparently registering for the forums is enough to get into SoG but I (& several) others have problem logging into forums because the accounts dont exist(?).

The "skill manual" looks like a boring april fools joke. Bad formating & only the names of skills & classes, thats just ::::05::

That skilltree is only the tip of the iceberg. Wait until you see the actual "game". That'll cure any and all fanboyism in you and make you a dedicated hater, like me ::::23::

Wow. I figured I'd get some sleep and check to see how their combat looked in the morning. I didn't expect out-right chaos. Yeesh, it's times like this that I'm glad I uninstalled the beta.

Guess I'll still try the free key thing to see if combat is more detailed than the skill tree. After all, you'd expect a game based around PvP to have a fun and enjoyable combat system, right?

Hope the server can really handle 10,000+ and that wasn't just marketing hype too...

The skill tree release was indeed a disappointment, as I expected more information on classes. I don't think that the released info, however, says anything about the quality of the product itself, but we'll find that out soon, after all.

    Currently playing:
    * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

DISEASE INSIDE.. what a creative name for a spell!!! I have completely lost all faith in this game and pat myself on the back for deciding not to pre-order it..

    Nice skilltree.
To bad almost all skills are not working even 7 months after this post.

Yet SOG was a "standalone game", "nothing to do with DNL", was not the beta, etc etc etc...The longer this goes on, the more "explanations" (read "excuses") you, the fanbois and the devs use, the more the total flat out lies come out.

Are you saying they shouldn't view it as a finished product? The game is being sold as one, so I don't think people should look at it any other way.

That was Blacksac's post regarding SoG 7 months ago, that was not a complete product according to Farlan. Now all can see that SoG is indeed D&L & NOTHING MORE (there was no miracle engine or contentpatch). Actually people are saying they had more fun in SoG than in D&L . Mostly because of the xp grind & lack of class-balance.

Yes you get to pay full price for 30% of the game that is full of bugs & exploits.

    Yeah, I just realized that.

Sad isn't it? Funny how this thread brought back memories of when the fanbois outnumbered the "trolls" 50 to one. Damn I wish I had been wrong and they had stashed a miracle build back in the corner and pulled it out last December. Even the fanbois are growing thinner and thinner over on the official site. I doubt if 50 people will still be playing on a regular basis by the end of the month.
