After reviewing everything available I have found several strange facts.
1) Never before have we had so little information about an Everquest expansion so close to its release.
2) Same as above for Everquest2
Very close but not exact quotes at the one hour and twenty eight minutes mark.
"we are starting to view both everquest games more and more as a single franchize"
"wait until you see the expansions both games will be more and more integrated"
4) After saying this someone from the marketing department clearly told them to shut up over the headphones.
5) Never before have I personaly seen developers have such an evil grin of "I know something you dont know and god I want to tell you but I cant"
6) They wont tell us much except "We are doing something never done before in an MMO"
merging two MMOs together through Zebux would fit that bill....
Hope to hear lots of good thoughts and hate alike...

WHen they said they didn't want to pull players from their other EQ games, I started to wonder the same thing. How in the world would you not pull players from your other games, if they are not going to be integrated somehow?
8 days left. Can't wait.

Anything is possible.
I doubt that EQ and EQ2 will be merged, I think the problem was in that he said integrated. Anytime a dev says that word gamers tend to start speculating rediculous outcomes ... and ... what I wanted to say, was that you will learn more information at our massive reveal!
If you take everything said so far you have to know by now they look at each EQ game as its own game that targets a different type of gamer. EQN is designed not to close down the other EQ games but target new gamers. Of corse there will be some bleed over as EQ fans just want to know what this is about.
As for intergration, SoE has a great deal where you can play all their games for 30 bucks a month. For the hard core fan adding features like maybe a char that can sync with the other games would be a good way to do that. Or leveling boosts or handing out a max level char on the other game. Or Housing area thats shared by all 3 games.
In no way is EQ1, EQ2 and EQN being merged into one game.
Release date? What? People must be confusing the official announcement of EQ Next with an actual release date.
On August 2nd, all I expect is for them to show a short gameplay video of a starting area and show some artwork. They might announce a release date, but it will be pushed back in a month or two.

Im sorry I couldn't resist. LOL.
Merger of EQ1 and EQ2? Why would they jeopardize their cashcows? Merging EQ1 & EQ2 would mean a loss of a lot of playerbase from both games, because EQ1 players are playing EQ1 because they don't want to play EQ2. Vice versa, people playing EQ2 because they don't want to play EQ1.
Even I think SOE is smart enough to not pull something like that. It's not going to happen, SOE will milk EQ1 & EQ2 for as long as possible. The milking has allowed them to develop EQNext.

1. EQ just finished releasing their previous expansion last week.
2. Don't follow it too closely, but it seems like they just release an expansion as well?
3. They're talking about things like character progression and lore
4. That's not a fact, that's speculation
5. That's called supposition in court, and it is inadmissible evidence.
6. Making the only playable races Kobolds would fit that bill as well. Making houses from Whale Marrow. Making clouds a playable race, integrating the game with Star Wars Galaxies etc etc.
It's an interesting thought, but one you probably know should have been discarded without posting about it.
This idea is pretty much nonsensical.
EQNext uses the forgelight engine, the others don't.
EQNext has been marketed as a "sandbox".
The populations of the other two games don't add up to a big enough market to make such a massive investment as EQNext required, and this would in fact be "canibalizing" those games.
I considered all the negatives that you guys have been posting, and after playing MMOs for fifteen years Im not usually big into speculation or forum trolling, but these few details among a handful of other comments lead me to believe it will be something like this. I thought for hours about all the differences between the two mmos and how drastic certain things would have to be changed even down things like everquest2 has alot of mirror classes that would probably have to be merged back into their respective base classes. The sheer differences in the AA trees are astounding.
However, when I reviewed the SOE Live schedule where it lists the changes to stats and gear, and the other things they mention all lead me to the same rediculous conclusion. My favorite quote was EQN will not be a sequal or anything like that "its a re-imagining"
If you have been playing MMOS for 15 years then you would know that not only is merging two games into a third is a bad idea.
As another person posted, the people playing EQ do not want to play EQ2. And the people playing EQ2 do not want to play EQ1. Even though EQ is a totally different game now than when it was first released, it is still light years different from EQ2. EQ2 is more along the lines of WOW or LOTRO. So why take a paying customer base from two games, get rid of them, and merge everything into one game? I mean, if you answer is to lose money, then yes it is a good idea.
Plus, it is technically impossible. They might be able to merge the Legends of Norrath card game into the new EQ Next game, and (of course) they might be able to send cross-game tells. You can already send cross server tells. But that is about it.
The re-imagining of Norrath means they are just doing different lore. EQ2 is set 500 years after EQ1. Who knows when EQ Next takes place, but they will probably switch some things around.
I actually considered this while reading it for a moment and then bonked my head since I should not have even let a thought like that pass through...lol
There is zero..... 0.000 chance that Sony would merge eq 1, and eq 2 into a single world where they all play in the same space. They are two entirely different games with different engines, spells, character abilities, progressions, aa's and so many more mechanics it would be impossible and strange to merge them. I could see features going forward being the same with expansions and maybe even similar areas and such, but they are different.
Also this is more a discussion area about EQ Next. If you are trying to get around to saying that EQ Next is actually just a merging announcement between EQ 1 and EQ 2 by creating a portal to suddenly leap back and fourth with your existing characters from those 2 games.....errm...hahahahahaha....nice one!! ;P
The concept art suggests it will be about a thousand years prior to original everquest. I only say that because the Ogre art is much more like the Zeks (prior to the Ogres being cursed) and the Kerra are the ancestors of the Vah Shir.
They wouldn't pull players from EQ1 and EQ2 if those players didn't like EQN because it was PvP centric. That's only 1 thought, not a declaration of what EQN will be. It's actually a double edged sword having something new but different. I love the lore from EQ1/EQ2 but I want a territory control game like EvE. What they could make is something that PvP players and long standing EQ1/EQ2 players won't like; which is the worst case scenario in my book.
The Concept art does not suggest anything. The Dev's have stated quite a number of times, it is not a prequel or sequel it is a re-imagining, taking place in the same time period as EQ1, but with different events having taken place.
This has been mentioned a few times a while back. I do not think that they would merge, possibly give the players some way to interact with each other between games, but not merge.

I think you guys are taking "merger" too litterally.
I definitely think all three EQ's will be connected somehow, but not techincaclly "merged" into one world.
SWG, Eve, Planetside 2, EQN, Star Citizen
Yes, yes it did.
Its not even remotely possible for this to become reality. But, hey, I guess we need to talk about something since we don't have any new information.
We are jumping from the word intergration to merged. Thats like taking the leap from associate to partner.
I agree my phrasing was a little more extreme than I intended. Thank you for pointing that out. I intended to communicate my thoughts as "are we going to have some form of merged/integrated play" I did not intend to suggest Sony closing the doors on EQ or EQ2.
For those who have said its impossible to do you are very mistaken. Everything associated with your character, your gear, your skills, your talents/aa is represented with numbers. To put it in simple terms to copy/paste these numbers into a new game with a different engine is far from impossible, but again I did not mean to suggest closing shop on the old games I simply meant to suggest active game play with players from different EQ games.
I might consider an integration of an aspect of the games affecting eachother especially given the timeline: Player changes in EQNext affect EQ1 and EQ2. Also fits making EQNext more of a sandbox allowing players to build/create things that propagate down the timeline.
But I don't think they would think they have the best thing since sliced bread if they are doing something similar to what CCP is doing with EVE and Dust.

Not impossible but a project on a scale of question of how they would make it profitable. Trying to make your Enchanter from EQ work in EQ2 or EQN is no small undertaking. When you take into account skills, stats, gear, customizable points like AAs crossing all the classes. You are better off just handing someone in EQ1 a level boost or a top level char in the other game. Or like I suggested in my first point in this thread. Add an area thats not combat related like sharing a housing area with all 3 games. Lore be damned it would be fun. I just dont see a copy of your char from EQ1 being made for you in EQN and have it work without a hitch. Better off letting people pick a class they like in the new game and reward them for being a customer in their other games.
Again there have been hints about something like this for some time as summed in those posts I linked. I have to say I think there will be integration somehow. To what degree, who knows. But I imagine that we will somehow be interacting with one another. If anything look to the fact that back in I think February and March, they went on a hiring spree for all three parts of this franchise.
If you watch the video from E3, they call it a franchise now and I am pretty sure specifically mention the word integration among the three games.
