I hear a lot of debate about how mmos need to be hardcore again like the good old days and i agree. i love a good challenging game but at the same time do to my job i dont have the hours i want to go out and discover everything.
So heres my idea. give people the option. So people who choose hardcore have to do everything the hard way. no way points, lots of research and skills can only be earn through defeating certain bosses. While casual gamers get the help so they can make the best of their short hours.
Now i propose that people who choose casual can get everything hardcore players get but with debuffs to the items natural stats. This way it balances things out so that casual players dont get uber stuff with uber stats.
Your thoughts on this idea?

I think the hardcores will be really happy with the "get everything quick" mode, and the casuals will be really happy with the "slow play" mode.
Why? Because hardcore and casual is not a measure of time commitment, like we assume. It's a measure of emotional commitment to the game. Therefore, those who are fanatically committed to maximizing their game will love ways to make their time more efficient. And those who are just along for the ride will be fine with making minimal progress.

I think he has a very good point. I don't think casual vs. hardcore is always related to the time that a gamer has available. It does help if a hardcore player has lots of time to play, but I have seen "casual" players that have lots of time to play, but are sort of ADD about things. They get bored REAL quick with things and jump around between other games, and alt toons.
