The Camelot Unchained site has been updated with a new post that discusses recent hires and, most interestingly, a first look at a development road map. Lastly, the team releases some new concept art on which to feast your eyes.
This week though we had a special guest star as Mike Milano (our modeler) lent a hand in the process. Like most of the other concepts, I asked our team to let their minds wander but with some very different instructions this time. First, I told them to think of the Hamadryads in a different way than is usually seen for this type of creature. Secondly, I told them to study both Guild War 2’s Sylvari and the Dark Age of Camelot’s Sylvan and make sure that our Hamadryads weren’t clones, or even close to, those races. Also, the artists were tasked with incorporating many different elements into their concepts, including insects. What they did with those instructions is, in my opinion, quite interesting. Each of the pieces includes a reference to the thing(s) that they used as inspiration for the piece. We also have two “tail studies” as well since we hope to give the Hamadryads a tail attack along with other unique abilities. Oh, and before anyone says “You gave female Hamadryads high-heeled feet!” please note that when I saw those concepts I said the exact same thing to the artists and Michelle just looked at me and said “High heels are pretty.

So this is their version of the plant people (forgot the name off the top of my head) that DAOC came up with? I wonder if GW2 developers will copy that too since they almost copy-pasted the plant people from DAOC, and amongst an outcry reworked them.
I bet we see an "insect" based race in the next year for GW2 :P.
In all seriousness I like any new races being drafted that aren't human/dwarf/orc/elf copypasta despite my reservations on their "PvP" centric focus for Camelot Unchained.
One of the greater aspects that made DAOC what it was back then was its ability to mesh PvE, PvP, and RvR perfectly together....until Atlantis that is . I liked Atlantis, but didn't like how elitist they made the Artifact systems .
All of that aside, I'm seeing a lot of DAOC x SWG games coming out in the next 4years. So I cannot wait to see what they attempt with Camelot Unchained :]!

What one EARTH are you talking about?
Do you moan about every game that has orcs copying whatever the first game was that had orcs? Cos I'll tell you something.. DAOC copied ALL it's races from other places. Main one of note here being the Silvans from The Chronicles of Narnia.
Totally agree. It's at a point in fantasy literature as well as gaming that to borrow is the norm - there's really little choice otherwise because once you start to completely reinvent races and worlds, it's very easy to end up with something so unfamiliar that it just bombs. Sad, but true.
Folks want their orcs, dwarves, and elves. Even if they are called 100 different things, they had best look like the above races. So what's important is not necessarily the copy paste mentality. It's that the game is fun.
Haven't had that in quite some time - fun, that is.
Look's like Nvidia is getting involved/interested in the game aswell.

@Paul - Thanks! Don't forget Mike M. too. He might not have any of his pieces in for show but some of the elements of his pieces were very influential. As to the Nvidia card, we're getting in some cards from them actually. They too are excited about what they have seen as have a few other folks have been. "

Did they perhaps think about "Terra Formars" ( a manga ) when creating this race? XD
Very cool anyway
you sounded as bad as those ppl saying "WoW clone!" and that kind of stuff worse of all its nobody make a comparision with silvary ....you just needed to say "inb4" to sound even more a D
mmos are never original even if this insect race looks more plant to me i would never say silvarys are unique or something and even if gw2 team copied that everyone does it...i bet just a few games came up with race and designs ideas totally original, after all as humans we base what we create on things we see and know about no just made stuff from nowhere
back to the game this game looks incredibly well and im hoping succeds even if i love rvr im pbly more a casual pvper and im affraid this will not be the game for me but who knows i loved WHO if that counts :P
i just dont want to be hyped as this game its on diapers pbly stilla good 2 years and half before we even get a beta
