FFXIV isn't oldschool in the slightest. It's a modern albeit very polished modern mmo. Not oldschool at all.

You need only ask yourself 1 question to see if its oldschool. Can you level to cap within a week or two? There's your answer.

wait until you run out of quest and get to end game

There are tons to do at end game and the first content patch will be out before anyone even finishes what there already is for end game.  And then there will be housing too in that first content patch I think.

was applying to the whole quest grind

think its 2 weeks to sub

And you found all of this in FFXIV?

Granted the game is not bad (after all has been in development for 6 years), I struggle to understandand what people finds so refreshing in this game...........

It certainly doesn't feel Old School to me, in fact I find it way too similar to Rift/WAR.

If it was F2P, I might  understand the excitement, but this game has nothing so special to justify a Monthly fee.

Let's see how many months before it goes F2P.

A lot of people found a lot of great things in FFXIV.

We're not heart broken you didn't, but we do wish you guys would stop going "I wonder how long until F2P" at this point everyone is aware of what Yoshi stated, you are not adding anything to the dialogue by saying your statement.

In fact it actually detracts from the discussion, so I beg of you, please, stop it.  Thank you.

    So I googled.

"Yoshi P on Free to Play"

    First result

    http://www.gamebreaker.tv/mmorpg/yoshi-p-defends-ffxiv-subscription/

How can you discuss or debate something you haven't even bothered to research at all?

Edit: I'm not asking you to "not express your opinion" I'm asking you to "express an opinion that adds to the discussion or dialogue, and doesn't just create a topic that has already been discussed to death and derails the current topic."

    Thanks.

Lol @ f2p.  If FFXI...which got terrible reviews when it first came out...didn't go f2p, what makes you think that this game...which has received significantly more positive press/player review/feedback will?

Edit: I'm not going to sit here and say that it's the best thing since sliced bread, or that its going to revolutionize anything.....but the overwhelming history on top of the developers statements disagree with you about f2p significantly.

normally I have 3 or 4 games on the go at once but I think it speaks volumes that I find myself shutting down all ties to my current games in preparation for arr. My only gripe is that having bought the 1.0 ce I get the game free but i'd almost rather this wasn't an option so I could get into early access, those 7 days will be a real test of will! :)

I know a lot of people that are just putting $5 down for a pre-order from Gamestop or Best Buy to get the head start code and then when the game comes out they plan on switching their pre-order to something like Wildstar or ESO. But yeah, I know what you mean.

To some people this is actually old school. For me the game does not feel old school at all. Old school for me was back when I started my toon in Lineage 2 there was a npc that told you how to kill a mob and how to pick up the loot that it droped. Then he told you to go to the nearest town and afther that you were on your own in an open seemless world with no direction at all. It was up to you to find your way and make your own adventures. No linear quest progression. To level your character to max took at least 1 year. That to me is old school.

meh, I am begining to hate those posts. No one, and I mean no one knows how the end game or the PVP side of the game will be like. if PVP becomes really good, then people would play it only for pvp etc. if housing and raids in end game are good, then many people who like the pve part will join in.

its very simple, none of us can really tell except at least playing with those elements. Open beta coming with PVP implemented finally, and maybe housing? no sure, but in any case, I think after Open beta people can predict better as they have glimsed on most of the elements.

    my 2 cents
