The Devs already stated that EQN will not have perma death but... There is always a chance a perma death server may be added to give player a choice on the systems they want to play. That in my eyes would be good because in MMORPG's choice is where the fun is.
I definatly belive permadeath is a possibility, however if it is done It is my belief that SoE would split eqnext into two, one hardcore game and one softcore game, with very diffrent gameplay "rules" etc but similar content, I very much doubt SoE would risk alienating casual players for permadeath, but at the same time capitalizing on the hardcore crowd would be a good move.
Permadeath will never be. At least in a mainstream MMO like EQ Next. Not having permadeath is one of the few features early MMO's had that will pass the test of time.
Permadeath? Please... That's just some good humour from D. What we really should discussing is this: " You have ruined your own lands. You will not ruin mine!" PvP? Race faction? Eve 0.0 sec style?
Permadeath won't happen. Maybe on a specific server rule-set, but not as a primary um..."Feature" of the game. That would just be them shooting themselves in the foot if that was the case.

huh? permadeath was far from uncommon in early mmo's, and SoE has already attempted it twice in the past with theyr AAA games, both in EQ and in SWG, however sadly eq was not built from scratch to support it, while swg tried to incorporate it together with the normal gameplay.
Permadeath is a feature that can be a benefit to a mmo, however what is important when making a AAA mmorpg is to not try to force such a feature on your players, this is also why I belive EQnext could possibly feature two very diffrent types of servers, if the permadeath servers were built from scratch with the intention of serving as permadeath servers I belive it would only be beneficial for the game as a whole.
That said I don't see there being any danger of permadeath being forced on players, SoE has more experience with mmo's then most, and while they have made some blunders in the past, I doubt this is the kinda landmine they would step on.

It's a goblin....not a troll.
Oh god, should i feel bad for knowing that!?!
Knowing the exact differences is only important if you're planning to try to reproduce with it. I'll extend you the courtesy of believing your intentions did not lean in that direction.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
Here I thought at SOE Live, EVERYTHING was going to be revealed, and, to my 42 years of wisdom, everything is everything. There cannot be any secrets.
Obviously everything is limited to information that is knowable. For example, they can't tell us a specific number of players who will play 4 days post release. Certainly other information won't be knowable that might be game specific information as they might add something post the reveal.

"Hardcore" servers for EQN that are inspired by the Diablo franchise.
I will say nothing moe

Bingo
Choice brings in a larger customer volume.
FFA-PVP servers
Roleplay servers
Guild v Guild servers
Race vs Race servers
Kingdom vs Kindom servers
Realm vs Realm servers (ie: races cluster up into 3 different factions to fight each other)
Any singular game that can do all of these server selections that EQ1 USED to do win the internet for the next 10years.
I don't get it. What secrets?

Us -we want death to mean something, we want difficulty and meaningful progression!
SoE -Aight, permadeath.
Us - fuck.
Middle ground plz? kk
Wouldn't this just completely split up the community?
I'm sick as hell right now, but I laughed hard when I read that. Thanks lol.

Most likely it's an inside joke from the team. Which would explain probably why Smedley tweeted it before and shortly later said that it was a joke.

I dont think it would split up the community any worse
than games like WOW / RIFT / EQ2 that have PVE and PVP servers
EQ2 fan sites
na, the difference is quite obvious
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
You say that like it's a good thing.
West coast Surfer Goblins ??? Holy crap I hope this is Not true hahah....we don't want no stinking West coast surfer Goblins
hahah that would suck if they actually added west coast surfer goblins to game LoL with stoner sounding voices
there is no story with permadeath
/thread
gameplay > graphics
Lets see your Battle Stations /r/battlestations
Battle Station
Sounds about right since eqnext is supposed to be sandbox, If its truely sandbox don't expect alot of dev created story.
Story only breeds crappy themepark mmos anyways.
