After watching that I'm starting to think I'm crazy for getting my hopes up with EQN. Well only one more day and we shall see how this is going to turn out. I have a bad feeling about tomorrow which I didn't have before I watched SOE Live tonight.
Why would you have a full cosplay dwarf woman in character for most of the thing? Really? This is the best face you have to put forward?
Nothing wrong with the Dwarf in general. Maybe even in a small dose would be funny and interesting. But just to long. Drop from character and give us the nooks and crannies of our games. I am actually quite pleased I wasted no money on a vegas trip for that.
I would much rather been out on the town at some great spots drinking and partying.....it's Vegas after all.
Oh well. My hope is the Dwarf will be in high fantasy gear and giving a brief appearance for EQ Next as it gets taken over by a professional that can start the hype train back up.....(she kind of hit the breaks).
Hopefully Georgeson and Smedly do a better job tomorrow. Georgeson usually seems very comfortable speaking compared to those tonight.
It seemed like the first guy was going for the over the top comedy routine that big awards shows have, just doesn't work when not a comedian or with the content he was working with. Comedy is either hit or miss and why so many comedians can't pay the bills.
The other devs and Soule looked uncomfortable and it seemed obvious to me that they aren't used to speaking in front of 2,000 people or at least don't do it very often. Even if they feel passionate about their work, that doesn't make them great PR speakers.
Pretty much the same for most gaming/tech conferences/shows (E3, Apple, Google, etc). There's a reason all those people work behind closed doors and not in the spotlight telling jokes, they aren't good at it and should stick to making quality products.
I gotta give credit to the guy rapping and others providing their videos/pictures. I don't have the balls to go on stage and do that. While they might not fall into the "cool" category for some people (love when gamers call each other nerds in a negative way), they have enough courage to be themselves and represent their love of the game.
For those confused about "the dwarf" aka Brasse...obviously new to SOE/EQ. While I'm not a huge fan myself, she has been doing it for quite a while and some people get a kick out of it.
Not sure what people expected. Devs talking to gamers about games that have been around for 10-15 years... it isn't mind blowing action. Hopefully the EQN show will be a bit more exciting for the younger/cool crowd, but it is still a mmorpg after all.
Originally posted by Arakazi Since the score is unfinished then beta must be a bit further away than I thought. I thought that they would be putting it up on beta this month. Bit optimistic I suppose.
Yeah sounds like ( no pun intended ) the game wont be out for some time and is in early development .
Oh well hopefully around this time next year it will be ready for release .
^^^ A bit more professional would have gone a long way for me. What do I know though I'm getting old and seem to have turned in to my father some where along the way. :P

I know this may not be the most original answer, but I can't help to notice how very disgustingly corporate SOE is.
I find it hard to believe that whoever the group of people who arranged this whole thing, there weren't any dissenters. There had to be individuals who did not like the ideas presented.
But they like there jobs and they are "TEAM PLAYERS!" Do you think any of them actually spoke up? Not a chance.
Anyone worked for people like this? Big boss comes up with what he thinks is an incredible idea and while he explains the idea to you, you roll your eyes on the inside thinking "THIS IS TERRIBLE."
But do you say anything? Hell no. You smile and nod.
I think there were many people involved, who smiled and nodded.
Meh..I liked it, thought the rapper was funny, thought the host was funny, Smed was kinda meh, but still had good moments. The EQN theme sounded great.
But positivity isn't what mmorpg.com forums are known for, so go on and flame away about how terrible it all was and pretend you could put on a better show
^^ Glad you liked it. No one can dictate what another person enjoys.
But in all fairness, it doesn't matter what kind of show we could put on.
Ever seen a horrible movie?
Do you think you could have made one better?
A movie and a keynote address are two very different animals. Kind of like comparing a gecko and a komodo dragon.
I wonder what exactly people expected from the address ? It was always going to be just a few little nudges, a bit of patting themselves on the back, dry comedy that often falls flat, and a thank you to the fans.
Hell the only problem I had with it was that in their "nostalgia" powerpoint where they showed pictures of Eq's development they had an eq2 screenshot on their 2002 slide for EQ.
People needed to realize this is the intro I think, it's not the big reveal, it's not what people paid to go see. This is just an extra "Welcome to the show", honestly it shouldn't have even been streamed.
Don't post this music. Just DON'T. Plz. I always get goose bumps hearing that melody and see my little dwarf running through butcherblock killing skellis.
Just woke up. So Jeremy Soule does the music for EQN. Nice. I guess that was all the EQN related info from that keynote.
What were you guys seriously expecting? A video game version of Cirque du Soleil? You had devs who aren't public speakers talking about their games. And that somehow correlates to how good EQNext will be? Good lord. Judge them off their games not on their showmanship. A good few of these last 10-15 posts just seem like a bunch of troll posts anyway.
Wow.. I tried to watch the keynote video of EQ and EQII.. and talk about poor marketing.. I as a former player have no desire to go back and play.. Is it just me, or are the DEVS only selling the game to existing players at max level.. I heard absolutely nothing from Thom or Holly why I should START as a new player or come back.. When was the last time EQ or EQII did a horizontal expansion? a TRUE horizontal expansion like Kunark was..
If this is any clue what EQ Next is going to be, I won't even bother.. EQ and EQII aren't remotely close to being what they were at release.. Both games seem to change direction more often then a wind vane in a hurricane..
Watching this made me feel like punching myself in the face. I feel pity for the people that attended this event and I bet it was a hell of a lot more than 12% doing heavy drinking. I say S O E you say, LIVE! Captain can't get a laugh and then a female dwarf in Terran Republic max armour cosplay. Save your self the agony of watching this and just punch yourself in the face. It will be the same result.

Okay it was kinda bad. Last year CCP got a lot of flak because of the shenanigans of their developers getting drunk on stage and the incident with Mittens. SOE were represented there because of dust 514 and was reported to be unhappy of what went on because some people believed in guilt by association. This year CCP tried to be more professional and a lot more sober, but it their fanfest this year was a bit dull. In fact, over the last couple of years CCP has become a lot more conservative in both its expansions and release and PR.
I don't mind bad shows like this just as long as it doesn't turn into a dull corperate event.

Soule is sooo over rated.....
Pulease
Yea. it was horrible. The EQ2 woman was the worst. What a horrible laugh. She looked so awkard out there.
I lost all interest for the 12pm video tomorrow. Can't watch another crap like this.
Sorry for all the folks that paid to sit there
I'm still definitely going to watch, but that EQ2 presentation definitely took some starch out of it.
Hopefully it's Smed doing most of the initial coverage. He was able to make the stuff he was talking about seem interesting.
some people may enjoy Brasse's outfits and scottish voice but I'm not one of them

oh god no. First bummer.
The guy constantly ripping off John Williams badly? yuck.
Didn't they find someone who has original ideas?

Just out of curiosity, since I haven't had a chance to look at the stream (or whatever they were doing, I'm not particulary well informed, lol)
They didden't show any gameplay or ingame graphics yet did they ?
Didnt see the keynote stream but from what you guys are saying it sounds like they where trying a bit too hard..
They showed the logo - (nothing to get excited about)
Played a rough version of the theme music (pretty good, grandiose with a hint of things to be discovered)
Hinted strongly that EQN will be on PS4, and basically confirmed that it would have SOE Player studio.
So, basically no news other than confirming what 98% of fans already expected.
*yawn!* Well, I'm glad I didn't stay up for it.
8 hours until the EQN Reveal!
