Sharky, I think this might have to do something with the servers at medium that you are seeing. This is directly quoted from the official forums:
"Ok I am beyond mad right now. As some of you may be aware there is a large group of pilots working towards bringing their community together under one server. We need more shipwrights so some of the people moving into the server have taken up the profession myself included. The problem? These shipwrights can NOT advance. There is a game stopping bug that makes it impossible to gain exp after a certain point."
I think it was mentioned somewhere in this thread that people might be trying to consolidate under one server. I guess this is a part of it.
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
Originally posted by Gorair are you? the boxes are still there , they PAID to have them made and shipped they arent just gonna let them be a loss. They didnt magically vanish over night. Tho that does explan why it was pulled or never stocked , funny not one of the 3 mentioned i could DL it and just pay wonder why. things cant be good if a company is willing to write off production costs and spend money on TV time saying "in stores now" when its not. So which is untrue your arguement or the SOE produced TV ads?
K, stop making things up. It wasn't pulled. It is now FREE. It is FREE in the interests of attracting new customers. WHat part of that don't you understand? I digress! S
It wasn't because of attracting new customers. it was because there were issues on TC with players not having JTL. Those who were testing the NGE and didn't have JTL had major problems.

Second isnt better to try to convince sony to make the changes more fitted for all plater not just the newer player that it is today imo.
And third thats why i think its better to just quit the game if you cant make yourself heard in good time instead of waiting several years hoping for the best.

Maybe I was a little bit off with my assumption that people really want SWG to fail. From what I can tell, none of the major haters replied much. Maybe it is just an overall disappointment.
Personally I just want some Star Wars MMORPG. And to be honest, pre-CU, pre-NGE is fine with me, I don't really care as long as it is an MMORPG. In NGE I don't feel like it has the RPG portion. Heck, I don't even care if it is post-NGE, but by some miracle the societal aspect of the game felt like it did back, IMO, pre-pub9 I would still love it. I really did have a blast with the SWG community, sadly it was nearly 2 years ago.
BTW, off my topic slightly, but those talking about server loads. I have to agree with whoever said that player server merges are already happening. My PA is busier than it has been in 4 months (maybe more) with all the server hoppers and returning (from pre-CU) guildies. Unfortunately, the "jedi" spinoff guild of ours fell apart with NGE and that does account for some returnees.

So you havent experienced the things that people who have been playing since beta have gone through. There is a saying, dont judge someone unless you've walked a mile in their shoes.
Im not judging anyone nor am i saying saying the new changes are the best thing ever, i am simply stating i enjoy games that dont take me a year to get to the point in the game i want, i dont have the time to play 4-6 hours a day.
And yes i have played plenty of games in thier beta form and have watched them change dramatically, remeber you dont know my own gaming history as i do not know yours.
Beta in Asherons call to Level 160+ with many changes over the years
I belive a game company should do as they want with a game and also should listen to the players as well, but that is a razors edge of balance one that you the player often does not have to make serious decisions about. The Dev's do and when they make them, people either get mad as hell or enjoy the new changes.
Originally posted by daeandor Personally I just want some Star Wars MMORPG. And to be honest, pre-CU, pre-NGE is fine with me, I don't really care as long as it is an MMORPG.
Me too. I'll be happy whatever they do as long as it's fun. If they changed it back to the way it was at launch and fixed all the imbalances and kept adding the NGE type quest based content I would be ecstatic. I'm happy the way it is now but that's because I'm pretty casual now.
Let's look at the reason for all the hate in a slightly scientific fashion: this is my hypothesis.
Why do people post on message boards?
a) To see their names
b) To feel important
c) Because they genuinely care about others and wish to share their knowledge
Now, sometimes the answer is c, and slightly more often it is a, but the majority of posters post because they want to feel important. Like they are adding something of worth to a discussion.
SOE is the most famous developer and publisher of MMORPG's in the world, and also arguably the most prolific. Also with that status comes SOE's reputation, right or wrong, as having the worst customer service of any MMORPG publisher on earth. I personally disagree strongly with that, but then I have only once in all my years of playing MMORPG's from Ultima Online to City of Villains needed the help of a customer service representative: that was because I got hacked in UO and some person took the entire contents of my bank account. Usually, if I get stuck I go do something else and it always fixes itself.
Now, bearing in mind that most people want to say something important and the fact that SOE has this bad reputation among MMORPG fans, this lends itself to a lot of SOE bashing. That is the reason for all the hate. People hear about SOE's reputation, whether they have experienced it or not, and expound about it ad infinitum on various message boards.
Thank you for listening, topic PWNED!!!111oneone!!eleven
Why all the hate?????? I ran one of the largest most succsefull guilds in SWG and have played since beta SWG was a great game pre-CU/NGE, lots of people played but some quit mainly because they wanted the bugs and broke proffs to be fixed and they vowed to return then. The game was very very fun and addicting with its diversity of proffs and the chance to loot incredible items as well as the crafting at the time and of course being able to build you own cities. Looting such nice items made some godlike and it was a great challenge to try and defeat them in pvp by outsmarting them or looting their own god like loot, also looting a rare crafting item made it exciting for the crafters. THESE WERE THE QUALITIES THAT MADE IT SUCH A GREAT GAME AND SONY GOT RID OF MOST OF THEM WITH THE CU. The game became somwhat generic after the CU but still had some potential with its proff diversity although lots of people quit at the CU many came back. The whole time SONY gave its customers promices of "fixing" bugs and broken proffs, I would say they made good on 20-40% of the promises in either of the 1st 2 versions so right there they started a trend people started to take note of-of NOT FINISHING WITH A PROMISE AND GIVE THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS A CHANCE TO RATE THE GAME AS AN AT LEAST SOMEWHAT FINISHED PRODUCT. They killed the public trust and the game as it is should die. But then along comes the NGE...LOL....it was kept secret/hidden from their customers so very little input could have been involved even though they "claim" the changes were made from "feedback" from the public, more like feedback from some bought and paid devs to dumb down the game enough as to be playable on a console. The CU turned a great many loot and crafted items into trash turning the games economy upside down and gave its players such things as weapon and mod caps giving the game a generic cookie cutter tone. The NGE did the same tenfold and SOE also tosses its proff diversity out the window. And all the while SOE never making good on its promises to fix all of its many bugs...instead each version gave us new bugs and even kept some of the same old bugs. Its a game with the track record of NOT fixing whats really broke and turning its back on at least 75% of its loyal customers and fan base as well as trying to pull some wool over our eyes with this joke of an NGE. Its now very unfriendly bug laiden dull game.
I agree with Warsong. SOE lied to us and continues to lie. And you wonder why they have lost over 50% of players. Did you know that the Japan servers never had the CU on them before they shut them down???
"No we can't run pre-CU servers" - LIARS
I hope it goes down as the greatest flop/lesson in MMO history!
SOE doesn't deserve the privilege of running a game under the name Star Wars(Anything). They have proven time and time again that they are incapable of running an MMORPG. Look at how EQ2 ended up? OMG it was nothing like what they showed at E3 2003. EQ was only good because it was one of the first 3-D perisitent worlds and people didn't have much of a choice back when it was first released. It was "the game". Back then people had invested lots of time into their characters and because of this they weren't willing to let them go. I did, just as soon as AC came out and AC was a far, far better game than EQ ever was(IMHO).
Look how SOE took a game like Planetside and totally wasted a great opportunity with it. Such a waste - I'll never, ever forgive them for destroying and neglecting what I consider to be one the greatest online multi-player games ever made - never forgive them for that.
Turbine is just as bad. How can a game company that made AC completely do a 180 and make AC2 - second worse game to ever be released next to SWG's NGE.
Neither of these two companies deserve any respect and people should quit supporting them by cancelling any accounts they have with them. They both thumb their noses at the gaming community, and repeatedly lie and use misleading advertisement to sell their products.
These games are not just like any other games. Behind the toons are people with feelings and emotions and wants and dislikes, the whole shebang.
When you put 1-2 years of your life into a game and all the memories, guild stuff, politics, friendships, enemies- it becomes a part of your life. You take it for granted and expect it to go on-in many cases even after you leave it behind.
I played EQ for 6 months, Daoc for 8 months, WoW for 10 months, and tried out a bunch of others. Its the community that makes these games and SoE just destroyed theirs and you wonder why there is hate? They destroyed their game that wasn't doing that poorly in terms of membership numbers and for what? To get the under 18 crowd to come on board? Its a terrible thing for Sony to do and if I were EQ or EQ2 fans I would start to worry. Its all about trust and how can you ever trust SoE again?
What SOE is learning, to slow to the detriment of its current population is that reputation carries alot of weight in the MMO community. Blizzard and NCsoft are prime examples of this, they can pretty much produce any game at the moment and the MMO community at large would anticipate its release.
SOE use to carry that weight, but they expended any goodwill they've banked and are now in the deep red in depth. Its easier to gain respect the first time than it is to earn it after losing it.
