That shit Brad was saying about people that love VG and EQ would love EQN? He was fucking wrong!!!! EQN looks more like Rift, GW2 and Reckoning have a love child.
Is this where you go back to defending him as a visionary designer, great leader of man and champion of MMOing? (or whatever).
Anyhow, I'm just kidding. At least we can agree that the game visually looks like utter shit.
Im inbetween. I actually think the game looks good. I like the art style and like the lighting/day night stuff. The rally calls look awesome (one of my favorite WoW things ever was opening of AQ, this reminds me of a better version of that). i fthey pull off the AI stuff it could be quite an experience.
But the combat looks awful. Red circles, lots of aoe, way too much motion-this looks like the crap weve been getting the last two years or so now.
Ultimately it doesnt look rmeotely like an RPG, but it does look like a MMOVW (MMO Virtual World). not sure how Id feel about that until i actually play it. Im guessing I wont like it because it kind of reminds me of Guild Wars 2, a great game that i personally dont enjoy.
In fact, EQN so far looks like the game Arena Net wanted to make.
Not to mention the implementation of Disney's The Lion King. This is not the EQ I was hoping for.
Whoever chose the art direction should be fired.
And for me it's not about the graphics per se...........a world that looks like a children's cartoon.......is going to attract children.......we can forget about any harsh world ideas.
I remember Smedley at the last SOE Fan Conference in Vegas saying EQN would be akin to EQ1, that it would be for the original player, a sandbox game, within original concepts.
Well... the original EQ1 player is now 13-14 years older, and probably wouldn't expect to be playing Pirates Online by Disney. Looks like I could play it on my iPad.
Originally posted by kjempff Graphics are just graphics, you will get used to it. Great ideas, truely a sandbox. Combat looked annoyingly gw2ish, I had hoped for more tactical stuff and less lightshow.
Graphics and ArtStyle are completely different. The graphics were so-so, but had a bit too much post-processing.
Where as the ArtStyle is the most important aspect right up there with Mechanics. It sets the "tone" of the game itself, and if they're childish graphics the game feels cheaply constructed and overall immature. It just feels gross.
That's what they've done here, and it truly is a horrible disappointment.
What is there to love or hate so far? Nothing but words. That's all I've seen. With a couple of months of hands-on time, I'll probably know a lot more.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
Those of you talking about graphics and art, it's not that big of a shocker really. All you had to do was to play Planetside 2, then you would've known what kind of graphics to expect from EQN. They use the same engine. I'll say that the environment and particle effects will be amazing with Forgelight engine. But armor details will be limited, as seen in Planetside 2 where you could barely make out decals and such at times.
I think the fact that we can apparently multi-task between ANY classes, any combinations, no repercussions, just a giant grab bag cherry pick of any combination we want sounds TERRIBLE.
I think it's not only overwhelming, it's unrealistic to the lore and fantasy world and completely takes me OUT of depth and scope of a living virtual world.
I wouldn't even mind like training a secondary class, within reason (ala FF), but this stuff is just silly.
A spell casting, sword wielding, plate wearing, back stabbing, healer. WOOOOOOOOO. Sounds stupid.
cant decide we really were not told the important stuff like crafting, factions, pvp, dificulty, how gear affects us ,what kind of skills we get,do we get healers or is it bottled heals, how does agro work, death penalty ect.
Not really gone on the graphics but i can live with them. Guess the game is a year or so away from being finished which is disappointing and as for EQ landmark it may be fun and will probly give it a try.
That shit Brad was saying about people that love VG and EQ would love EQN? He was fucking wrong!!!! EQN looks more like Rift, GW2 and Reckoning have a love child.
Im getting sick of these cartoonie looking games.
Amen. I'm incredibly disappointed that developers keep mandating these shroom-trip colour palettes and unnaturally bright and cheerful worlds.
From now on I'm going to make it a point of policy to never play anything with cartoony textures, it has gotten out of hand and shit has got to stop.
"Where is the feeling of accomplishment in a game where you can never go where there is none to be had?" -Me, on the subject of Bethesda > BioWare
I don't have enough information yet to decide whether I'm happy about EQN or not, but so far what I've seen looks pretty neat. I'm hoping that they emphasize player choice as much as possible so that people can play the game however they want (full PvE, FFA PvP, etc.)
No mention of game mechanics at all. I assume they are going to do away with the holy trinity also with the idea that anyone can do anything (IE multiclassing)
Game companies need a good friend to tell them to stop wearing those pants because it is giving them really bad muffintop.
Love the idea of discovering up to 40 classes to create a unique character, and keen on playing in a world that reacts to what players do. The new responsive World AI will takes away the easy uberness found in other games where every thing is a rerun.
Hoping that more races get added: especially Ratonga, got a soft spot for those.
Figuring there's a lot in the game that we're still gonna hear about (they said the crafting will be very important), but for now this short reveal is enough to get me hooked.
All jokes aside, some things looked epic, but smashing trough enemy's like that with 3 ability's seemed pretty boring.
Its GW2 skill system ( wich are boring long term ) and (upgraded Dynamic Events)
Its WoW style graphics, wich doesnt have to be bad, but i have seen enough of that stuff by now tbh, yet can play a mmo if its good enough.
Its got Frostbite engine destruction, but there is way to much shit flying around on screen to see what the fuck is going on, or to make tactical decisions. Its just seem way to much smashing and buttoen mashing for my taste.
I dunno, kinda underwhelmed by it, and quite shocked once more about all the news site's caliming EQN will shock the foundation of the mmo world.
Again big words and alot of yadayda.
Back to Eve online !
I hope CCP can make a adult mmo and release something never seen before in Eve Style. Thats my only hope for the long term future :P

Thankfully it seems like the trinity will remain, and from what ive read the *real* trinity (tanks, heals, crowd control).
But all I saw on the video was absolutely stupid aoe skills, not sure how cc will fit in.
Originally posted by cheyane I am over half a century old and loved the graphics . I loved the ideas this game is going to revitalize the MMORPG genre.
This will be an awesome game for WoW players and casuals, I can never see it attract hardcore players.
This. I'm trying to figure out how marketing had the gall to throw "hardcore" anywhere near this game.
Seeing how we only were told about the main concepts and not a whole lot of details not sure you can come to the conclusion. In MMORPG's article about EQN they mentioned a few things that would be considered hardcore.
No "exclamation marked" npcs. No quest hubs. No guidelines on how to advance your character. Like EQ you just get dropped in the world and no hand holding. So like there's plenty of hardcore features so far.
Why do I usually find polls to be stupid? Oh yeah, its because the authors give you a limited number of THEIR ideas for options to vote on that usually don't feel how I or others feel!
So, yes and no.
Yes. It looks like it could be a fun game.
No. It looks like a massively single player console/arcade game (GW2 with more console emphasis).
I'm a PC gamer and MMORPG lover going back to EQ at release and what I really want is a satisfying new MMORPG with some elements of old school vibe. I don't play consoles and have little appreciation for either the ez mode modern MMOs or especially for the solo-heavy pseudo MMO style. There's no lack of excellent single player games in the gaming world. What makes MMORPGs special is group-based content and experiences. Heavy grouping is what made the old school MMORPGs the best of the genre and is why no new solo-heavy modern MMO has any balls or longevity.
Yes and No. Way too early to say since they really didn't show much of anything and anybody can discuss what they WANT to do. They got the hype ball rolling nicely without really revealing much of anything solid, just a lot of talk. Well done on that front.
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

The last MMO i bought was RIFT and i wish that i hadent. I will never buy another one that even come close to the shit were getting these days. If i never play another MMO as long as i live, ill be fine. But im not goin to pony up cash for shit like this.

Where's the 'Ask me again in Jan 2014' option?

The game does not remotely remind me of WoW in any way. i see a lot of GW2 and unfortunately some TERA in it. But not WoW.

I liked it.
Me thinks not everything which has "Cartoon" is WoW and not everything is a clone from that either.
I'm fine with that. Looking forward to see it on my own Gamingrig, will be another expierience on top.
