I liked what I saw... and I will play it and help them create it. I think some of you based on your comments should just exit the building. EQN is not being made for you. Based off some comments I don't think your game could be made.
I don't understand where all the hate and cynicism comes from in today's gamer. Some of the comments are so narrow and petty, I'm glad you won't be playing EQN.
Sounds good so far, but I am somewhat worried that mixing trinity combat with their somewhat mixed class system might be less than optimal. Then again, it might work excellent as well, hard to say without trying it.
I am happy that they try something different to make the world feel more alive and it seems they take GW2s DEs to a different level if it works for real.
I really do need to try it, but I do feel a small hyping sensation somewhere...
Another part of me wonders if Blizzards resent statement that they were totally changing Titan before they even release it might have something to do with this? Knowing Blizzard it is probably just them acting as usual (they scrapped several Diablo 2 & 2 versions and Starcraft: Ghost altogether) but they might heard stuff and decided to do something similar.
I do see 2 ways SOE might mess things up though: by programming error (we saw loads of bugs when SWG and EQ released) and by being too greedy with the cashshop so people more or less both needs to pay subscription and buy stuff in the itemshop. Both have happened before but if they avoid those misstakes they might actually take back the MMO throne.
There is so much unknown about this game, that it is impossible for me to just go off of a single gut reaction.
What they're proposing sounds fantastic. But how's it all going to work? Until we see and experience that for ourselves....It's too hard for me to say.
There was a time when MMO's were the future of gaming. Then WoW took over and here we are 10 years later with little innovation since and not much to be proud of. Hopefully this will spark the step in evolution that this genre has needed for a long time.
That shit Brad was saying about people that love VG and EQ would love EQN? He was fucking wrong!!!! EQN looks more like Rift, GW2 and Reckoning have a love child.
Im getting sick of these cartoonie looking games.
Maybe he meant in terms of gameplay?

Yeah all those cartoony graphics really held World of Warcraft back. Imagine how many people would have played if it looked like the cutting edge realistic graphics of 2004 could offer.
The graphics are fine. Gameplay is what counts. Tetris is fucking blocks. BLOCKS! it's been sold more than a billion times. I like the stylized graphics of EQN and Wow and Wildstar. They will always look good.. compared to a realistic looking game now that will look severely dated in 2 years.
Sounds like they were on the right track with the first version that they tossed.
This is not Everquest, this is some Disney, Saturday morning cartoon garbage mashed up with every horrible feature you can cram into an MMO.
When will SOE understand we wanted that dark, unforgiving world where as a player you were scared for a reason. You were immersed in the game because it was realistic (for the time).
I mean seriously did they hire a 3rd grader as their art director.
Art style was the last thing I could think about, and I liked it. Reminded me of Dragon's Lair from back in the day. Very nice improvement from their other games.
I will probably play it though i was never into Disney Graphics outside of Cartoons.

I bet he wasn't talking about art design when he said that.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

I'm so disappointed right now, god dammit.
You and me too brother. I'd invite you to beer to wash away our sorrows, but I'm headed to the bar already...
It looked OK I suppose, but then we didn't really see much apart from 2 premade characters running around a tiny ruin. All the TALK about 'emergent AI' with Orc bands that will adapt to whats happening int he world etc, and the TALK about these DE type things that take 3 months to go through and permanently effect the world...we have to wait and see how that pans out. We can't go "OMG that's awesome, thats a game changer, that's what we've been waiting for" just yet because we haven't seen a thing about it. How many hyperbole presentations have we seen in our time where features have been exaggerated and promised, only to fall far off the mark or not appear at all?
The game probably has at least another year to go. It doesn't look anywhere close to finished. I love ideas, hate cartoon graphics and I'm concerned that they won't make it difficult enough.
So many questions left unanswered. No levels, you wonder about character progression.
Combat looks fine to me as I really like gw2 combat. Teraforming in the open world is an off the hook awesome idea. It will need the proper rules to keep people in check though.
OP should have included an undecided option in the poll.
I loved the ideas put forth but why did they have to go with that art style. The character models and the combat shown was a huge disappointment for me. I don't mind cartoon graphics but the direction SOE went, the game looks like something Disney would produce (IMO). I know gameplay over shadows graphics but I just cannot get the image of that lion out of my head. I have voted no for now due to not having other poll options and how I feel about the game at present. This may change once more info is realeased about the game and we see more in game footage of the other playable races.
Edit: I feel they should have made a new IP for this game and not use the EQ name. Lets face it the only EQ in this game (reported so far) is the name of places and some of the NPC's. I gather they are re-writing the lore, so why not use a new IP.
While I'm not 100% sold on the art direction or the mechanics yet, I'll give it a try.
I'm really wondering what will make grouping worthwhile and if it will function just like GW2. I'm also wondering how travel will work and if it will require other players.
I would have liked it more if the world was set up in a somewhat realistic fashion.
There could be a far stronger community if there was a sense of teamwork that proliferated the world. Keep the destruction, but make it more difficult and require players/npc's to rebuild, instead of making it regenerate. Subterranean lands could be discovered by miners and through the use of spells that tear away at the earth, blow it apart, or turn it to a liquid that could be drawn out, channeled away, or pumped out by machinery that could be built to facilitate this as well.
Roving bandit players could build on outlying areas and raid NPC based merchant caravans, which would also be under attack by orcs. That way, even the players that choose to be evil would also face difficulties/competition from their decision. Other players could report activity and summon guards. The bandit players might have to follow behind the orc warbands or may even assist them and gain favor with them over time. Those orcs could even wage war on the goblins or others and those players could assist them and move up in stature within the group. If that group of orcs is wiped out completely, all memory of their deeds might be lost. Word can spread and be lost, depending on interactions with other warbands. Orcs might be prone to infighting and petty squabbles that lead to all out war. This kind of depth could extend to every race. Some might never be cooperative though, no matter what you do for them.
There is so much they could have done, but there is still time for them to play with new ideas and concepts (I hope).
Mixed here. I'd definitely try it, that's for sure. But there are quite a few things I am very iffy about.
Generally, I am happy with the whole Minecraft-in-EverQuest idea, but other things around it, not happy with at all.
I don't like how the combat looks in the slightest. Animations are rather jerky and connect badly. The animations are also really overkill and there's way too much flash and vision noise. Everything feels rather heavy...
I like the world design, do not like the character design. Tone down the shoulderpads and the size of everything. We really do not need exaggerated features on humans. Stylized doesn't mean you oversize everything those are two separate concepts. >_< Oh well. I am playing a .
Skills, abilities? Not too hopeful in that department so far.
I like the parkour stuff, though. I don't like that people get multijumps. This stuff really should be limited.
Favorite MMO: Vanilla WoW Currently playing: GW2, EVE Excited for: Wildstar, maybe?
Way too difficult to tell right now, but the game has a lot of interesting ideas that I am looking forward to trying out.
I wonder how blizzard will handle Titan's unveiling compared to EQNext. All I know, is that WoW will surely fall by the wayside against both of these, despite blizzard trying to keep both afloat for sure.

i really don't know if i will like EQN.
For now i'm amaze with the game, but they didn't show alot of thing
i would like to know if they plan to put an interface...(where is the hp,mana, spell bar)
can you play in first perso or it is more a third person game
what about death ??(any sense of fear?)
is it a game for casual gamer?
...
I will probably play it though i was never into Disney Graphics outside of Cartoons.

I didn't like the giant explosions during every fight tho. I hope they tone that down.

The combat concerns me. It sounds an awful lot like GW2 combat, which I hate.
Also, it's running on the PS2 engine, which is horribly optimized.
the graphic and gameplay make me think of a game i'm playing ( Darksider 2 )

Hey, at least it has day/night cycles!
Sometimes different is not better. SOE has never learned that lesson.
The combat looks atrocious and like it requires zero tactical thought at all.
Yeah a guy at work brought that up as well and I agree. Couldn't see a thing.
