"On the subject of 'Project Titan,' Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime reiterated that there was no set or anticipated launch date for the project. He did, however, confirm that 'Titan' was "unlikely" to be a subscription-based title -- which more or less implicitly acknowledges that Blizzard is at least aware of changing market norms for online games."
I guess even Blizz sees the writing on the wall.

I do.
Gamers who are waiting for Titan do.
Millions of players bought previous games like D3, and SC2 may too.
I notice news of Allods Online planning to open a subscription server.
That coffin of yours may turn out to be a pendulum.
nah .. i am talking about the coffin of the p2p-ONLY (or sub-only) games. Allods is not taking out the f2p part, is it?
ATM Titan is proving to be nothing more than vaporware, so nothing really to be taken from a game that isn't anywhere near releasing, and by all accounts had to go back to the drawing board.

The important point is whatever games blizz are planning, F2P is on the table, and a likely outcome. Whether it is the same "titan" game is irrelevant.
Who said it is a surprise.
It is another "expected" nail in p2p-only game coffin. Better now?
*shrugs* I can't afford to play F2P MMOs.
It's a sign of t what's popular right now...you will never see any bucking of the trends or risk taking from Blizzard.I don't subscribe to the one payment model to rule them all mentality.
Poor you ... may be i will just play your portion.
In fact, i just had a lot of fun in Marvel Heroes today. No money required.
And it probably will be popular for quite a while. Whatever you subscribe to .. obviously don't have an impact to the industry.
And i don't need Blizz to buck any trend, i just need them to make fun games for me, and so far, so good.
What do you mean nail in the coffin? NO F2P games out right now are in a good state, at all. Many P2P games are barely in a profitable state but P2P has still proven its the only way to thrive.

And another nail in f2p coffin too and cash shop.
Sounds like its going to be absolutely free without any kind of cash shops ,or do you have inside info ?
So, did ESO have a successful launch? Yes, yes it did.By Ryan Getchell on April 02, 2014.

We know, you remind us every day how you play f2p games without paying a single cent. I have too much pride to settle being a second-class player. Not going to spend money in cash shops to support your fun, I pay taxes to support worthless moochers in real life already.
you kind of spoiled your argument by using Marvel Heroes as an example though, where you really have to spend quite a bit before the game even begins to be fun, and even then not for very long, check out the Totalbiscuit WTF on it, its really that dire.
NorseGods point is well made though, so many F2P games do cost a significant amount to play, especially if your looking for a long term, or main game. Its all the 'hidden charges' that trip people up, the pay to compete, the pay to increase xp gain to a meaningful level, the pay to access areas, pay to access types of gear, pay to access skill sets even, and thats before you get to the pay to acquire cosmetic items because you don't want to look exactly like every other player in the game.
The simple fact is that microtransactions games that rely heavily on supremacy goods for their income are being rejected by US players. Looking at any financial records for these type of games shows a continuous decline in revenue. I suspect that there will be a shift in the way cash shops are being designed, or they will disappear all together.
Heh, that only applies if narius wanted to invest himself in a game. From what I read of his posts, MMOs are past times for him. He likes to dabble with them but I don't think he wants to fully invest his time and effort into any of them. That's his choice and from that perspective I understand why he likes F2P. It fits his playstyle.
Heaven help him if he ever finds a F2P MMO that sucks him in. Then your statement will be very true.
Yeh. I doubt there will be a F2P MMO that i want to pay anything ... if Marvel Heroes cannot get my money (since i am a big marvel fan, and MH is as fair as it gets for F2P games).
Plus, Marvel Heroes is the prefect F2P example. You don't need to spend a single dime to have fun, because you can finished all the content on the starter heroes (and you get 2).
I planned to finished the game on Daredevil ... may be again on The Thing (both free for me) if the Thing has fun combat. And if i happen to earn another hero, i will play him too.
So far, it is a decent SP game with some MP elements. I certainly want to see till the end. My only complaint is that the framerate is a bit low (and i have perfect framerate for D3, with everything turned to max) so they need to optimize their engine better.
Interesting! I've seen F2P include premium monthly services, but never saw one convert in the other direction. If it proves to be a good move, I'm interested in who else may follow their lead.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Too bad then, if it's F2P we want all your moneyz cashgrab shop like STO, AION, Lineage 2 which is completely p2w now, i simply pass.
Something is definitely going horribly wrong in the MMO landscape, you can tell me what you want but more and more F2P have gone full retard P2W, which means that cosmetic and XP items don't make enough revenue, i really hope the MMO market crashes and burns and maybe we will see a phoenix someday.
The mmo future is very bleak in my humble opinion.
The f2p market is growing. I guess your quitting does not really impact the market.
And there is no p2w in a soloable pve MMO. I play Marvel Heroes .. since i don't even pvp, p2w is impossible. True that you have less content if you don't pay (fewer heroes to pay) but that is pretty fair. And if someone else progresss a bit faster (xp potion), that does not impact my game. Heck, i won't even know it.
So f2p is perfect for pve games, particularly the solo-able ones.
pvp ... OTOH ... depends on what they sell.
