Alright heres the thing i here so much talk about Sony buying out Mircosoft and also the same thing about Microsoft buying out Sony. So who's telling the truth huh? I have noticed how most the ppl who say this like either sony better or Micro btr, (just like i like mirco better) and i know its a possibilty that it could be just another rumor like most things are that i hear, but whats the truth behind this little quareal?
Pesronally i would like to believe Mirco is buying out Sony
Comments
From the top of my head, whatever you are hearing is false.
SONY would never sell out to no one, espically a company to the USA, and the same goes for Microsoft.

I highly doubt Microsoft, as large as it is, has the money laying around to "buy out" Sony as a whole. If anything they would possibly think of acquiring a department. Maybe SOE. But SCEA is way too large for Microsoft to touch. Not to mention Sony Picture Studios and Sony Electronics and Sony Record Labels.
Unlike Microsoft, Sony as a corporation is more disversified. Microsoft has NOTHING to do with Music and Movies and probably would have to restructure to even think of dealing with something like that. And, no matter what Xbox fanboys out there tell you the Xbox has YET to capture the lion's share of console sales ( please, let's not include the 360 as of yet since lord knows how many of those units are going back to the stores on fire AND the PS3 is not out yet to compare. Meaning...yes you could say the 360 is outselling NOW but next year the PS3 could be blowing it out of the water. )
Microsoft is big and mighty, but there are STILL a lot of companies out there that are large enough and have enough assests to give Captain Winky and the rest of the gang at Microshaft the one fingered salute ( ie- Disney did so a few years back when Bill Gates attempted to buy a mass share in the company to wrest some control ).
This is probably just more Xbox propoganda you are hearing. Until I see it at CNNmoney.com it's fluff.
"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."
Neither company could ever buy each other. First off all, microsoft owns the entire computer industry... dont even mention mac. Just about every government and every person in the world with a computer has a microsoft OS (some have mac but who cares mac are gay...) And sony has the entertainment industy in check (although they do have alot more competition...) Sony does have the most consoles out, but the 360 WILL beat out the PS3. there is no debating it. I like sony as a company but they will fail. Why? because of a few reasonss. They have a crap controller. Their internet WILL NOT compare to Xbox live, which is the main reason. Halo 3 being released on the same day or around the same day. it will be more expensive. the list goes on. There may be glitches with the 360, but there are always gonna be something wrong with a new system. Although the disk space problem. omfg idiots at microsoft, pay like 30 more dollars per system to get a better dvd format with more space. stop being so cheap. better file smallinizing (lol not at all a word, soulnt think of the right word...) software my fucking ass. Dumbasses. i hate them all. i bet a few PS3's will blow up when they touch wooden floors or sumthing... But w/e no one will buy out anyone ever so yea...
Am I ever wrong??
first off malachi i dont think u undrerstand they greatness of the 360. sony has nvr been able to compare AT ALL to Micro when it comes to graffics and as Mikesta said there controlloers are wacked as well. also if you remmeber when sony came out with ps2 a few months before the xbox did it got a couple thousand more sales JUST because it came sooner, AND the same is happening with the 360 and the PS3. The PS3 is not being wanted as much anymore because ppl have the 360 in there living rooms already. And lets not forget about how people got the 360 from other people in the parking lots of stores they just got them from for $1000, another sign that the PS3 isn't that big of a deal anymore. I mean have you even played a 360 yet? I played Call of Duty 2 last week and the graphics and gameplay were JUST AS REALISTIC AS IN THE REVIEWS FOR IT, IN WHICH ISNT TRUE FOR THE PS2, when the ps2 graphics were shown it was a huge disappointment to many customers.
Ok lets get a few things out of the way, in this discussion we seen to have a lot of opinions masquerading as facts (sorry but its true). Moshpit if you could provide us with some evidence of what you are saying, e.g. a record of sales of the Xbox and PS2 and the 'greatness' of the 360 then i might to be able to form a better response but until then everything here is flaring opinions.
Of course it is ridiculous that either company could buy either one out, it's just madness and would most likely be suicide for both parties. Personally i'm not a 'fanboy' of either company nor do i 'hate' either i merely feel nothing for them, they are just companies. Without either i think it's pretty obvious to say we'd be missing quite a lot.
As far as the 360 goes i have to admit i'm waiting for the PS3, moshpit most of what you said seemed to be speculation and most likely spread through word of mouth (no offense intended there), as has been said earlier we just have to wait until both consoles are competing with each other, each will have its hard core fans it all depends on who will take the largest chunk of the middle ground. If i be honest i doubt either will be strong enough to stomp out the other, the PS2 couldn't stomp out Xbox and neither could Xbox stomp out PS2, why should anything change...
Okay, let me try to handle your posts here piece by piece. It's really hard to read what you are trying to say through the grammar issues. Slow down a little and don't use so much "netspeak" if you are really going to try to make an educated debate. Thus said, to your points:
Comparing the Graphic Engines: Playstation Series vs. Xbox. Firstly, the Xbox did NOT come out a couple "months" after the playstation 2. It came out nearly a year later. PS2 was globally released ( thought released in the US 12/99) 01/00 ( http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q3-1999/081299c.html ) while Xbox was not released until 11/01 ( http://xbox.gamespy.com/articles/500/500452p1.html ). So already your "facts" are off a bit. That being said comparing the hardware of machines that are 10 months in release ( more around 11-12 months but I am using global release dates ) is daft. If you know anything about the ever changing field of computer hardware you know that 11 months is a lifetime. This is shown that Xbox was using a 733mhz CPU whil the PS2 was using a 266mhz ( which is sad considering they were still comparable machines game to game ). I have personally played games on both consoles ( titles released for each ) and seen them look pretty much the same. Here's a little something for you to read about the Mighty 360 and it's graphics system http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/quake4/review.html?sid=6140243 . Not doing so hot on a few titles I have heard and read.
As for your assumption that people will not want the PS3 because the 360 is already out. Well, I was trying to find the article for you but the poles were show 1 in 2 saying they will wait for PS3. So that looks to be projected an even market split. Merril Lynch says 360 "may" have a slight lead but no one can know for sure. Your logic is flawed in the fact that since the PS2 was launched nearly a year before the Xbox then people wouldn't have wanted the Xbox because the PS2 was already in their home. As for your ideas about the auction prices for the 360 right now...same happened for PS2. That's called "market bear". I remember PS2s selling for $2000 right before Christmas ( because I was working a retail chain at that time ). People will just pay horrific amounts to get something NOW as opposed to waiting. That shows NOTHING of popularity over competition. That just shows what there is to buy NOW for this holiday season. The same thing will happen with the PS3 next year.
Here I quote you "I played Call of Duty 2 last week and the graphics and gameplay were JUST AS REALISTIC AS IN THE REVIEWS FOR IT, IN WHICH ISNT TRUE FOR THE PS2, when the ps2 graphics were shown it was a huge disappointment to many customers."
Where did you get your intel on this? Got an article to read? Yes, the HD aspect of the 360 IS nice...if you own an HD TV ( which is STILL not the standard in the American households at least - namely because so few channels still offer HD signals ). As for ANY screenshot review...you're an idiot if you believe all you see. Generally screenshots are taken of GREAT quality displays which is not going to be the case with the average user. The Display has a hefty chunk to do with how the end product looks. Play your 360 on a 12" black and white TV and let me know how great it looks.
Now, to my issues with the 360:
1- Backward compatability requires you have the hard drive to "emulate" the Xbox system? Okay...stupid. On purpose? Hell yes. Why? Because Microsoft has shown in their history that they LOVE to force bells and whistles on their customers. The Playstation Series is 100% backwards compatale. Same controllers if you wish ( without analog from PS1 to PS2 ). Use your old memory cards so you can play your saved games. So on and so forth.
2- What precisely besides having HD capability is "Next Gen" about the 360? Nothing, unless you consider having newer motherboard, CPU, GPU, and Memory tech "next gen". But that's just cyber-evolution. They didn't bring ANYTHING new to the table this time around. It's all just a rehash. In fact, they rehashed SO badly that the thing is a power hungry, toaster over. Now I am not saying this is a flaw from being rushed...this is an overall DESIGN flaw. The 360 requries a WHOPPING 160 watts to run. As opposed to 74 from the Xbox...and 50 from the PS2. That means it requires more juice to run than several of your other entertainment components. Meaning you could run your TV and DVD player with surround sound for the same power consumption as a single 360. Ouch. The 360 alone actually raises your estimated yearly electric bill. That's a joke. Read on http://www.megagames.com/news/html/console/xbox360-powerhungry.shtml . The PS3 is at the very least bringing blu-ray to the table. Offering 45 GB DvDs!!!! Think what THAT is going to do for the software developers level of content. Constraints? What constraints?
3- Catalogue, catalogue, catalogue: It's probably going to end up being the same this time around. Sony will "probably" offer more catalogue titles than Microsoft. Mainly becuase SONY has better business practice with 3rd party companies that MS does. Sony's catalogue covers a broader age range in their titles generally speaking. Call of Duty 2 may be great but there are more Sonic the Hedgehogs and ToeJam and Earls for Playstation that sucks the 10 and under crowd into their market.
Microsoft has a long way to go before they could think of "destroying" Sony in the Console Game Market. Yes, they are fierce and I would venture to say equal competition. But by far they are not in control. They don't even have anything out there for the portable market ( though I will give due props to the failing Nintendo here. Even though their consoles have been gurgling on the deathbed for a while they refuse to release their domination of the portable console market ). But that alone is an entire market share that Sony has that Microsoft doesn't ( speaking console-wise. Both companies are in there when it comes to PC titles ).
Overall...you're a fanboy. Right now you are comparing a 747 to the Rocketplane XP ( look it up if you want to know what it is ). The 747 is out now. We can fly in it and judge it all day long. The Rocketplane XP is not. So all we can do is wait to compare. Declaring 360 the hands-down winner right now because it is all that is out is plain ignorant. Hopefully you never run your own business with that sort of keen insight. The complains you and Mikesta made about the controllers are purely opinions. Same can be argued about the standard QWERTY keyboard vs. the Ergonomic. Of the mouse vs. trackball. They are preferrence. One is not better than the other. It's all about taste.
Now I know this is WAY off the original thread point but I just HAD to give you a little FOUNDED information so you could possible make some learned opinions.
Okay, I HAD to touch here because you obviously don't work in the IT industry. A lot of what you said in your thread was at least voiced as an opinion unlike the OPs. However, to quote you "microsoft owns the entire computer industry" is about as uneducated as it gets. Microsoft "dominates" the front end. Having worked for the BBN Corporation ( aka Genuity the people who at one point owned 72% of the cable land lines in the US ) in their 300,000 sq ft Data Center with 34,000+ servers and 24 OC192s let me tell you...Microsoft does NOT own the "entire" computer industry. What the are strong at is the front end. The workstations, the home users, the gamers. However, out of those 34k+ servers more than HALF were running some flavour of UNIX ( be it Linux, Solarix, or whatnot ). So you are probably thinking, "Yeah but those were probably for little crap companies". Let me give you a small list of the "crap companies" that were using Non-MS servers: The New York Stock Exchange, Yahoo, Fortunecity, and 7 state lotteries. A good deal of the servers themselves were not even INTEL based hardware. They were SPARQ based Sun Microsystems.
Here's a little question for you: You think all these MMOs you are playing are running on Microsoft products? LOL With the exception of SQL being used for the databases more often than not MMOs are running on a UNIX kernel. Why? Because it's assloads more stable that NT, 2000, 2003 ( thought I even admit Server 2003 has gotten pretty nice ). Again, Microsoft does not OWN the computer industry. You sound like one of those people who think that only the Apple and the Orange ( Microsoft..though it's more often a Lemon than an Orange ) exist. Well, again, Microsoft would be crap out of luck with this tiny little company called Cisco Systems. And Cisco System aren't even the ONLY backbone/router/switch/bridge/VPN providers out there anymore.
In short, Microsoft is exactly what it's flagship product's name says: A Window. There's so much going on in the background of the computer industry that has NOTHING to do with Microsoft that it's not even funny. They are big, but they are not the Alpha and Omega.
"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should?
