Just wondering, question is kind of for EQ1,EQ2 players past and present. Do you think this game will do anything for you? Are you even going to try it or buy it? Myself I will try it ,not sure on buying. I was hoping we would see an old school game but guess no go.Wonder if any one will ever make a game that gave me the feeling EQ1 and EQ2 did? Or are all the games coming out focused on the 21 and younger age group that can play on console or PC. Anyone else miss the good old days ?

Why would they make an old school game? SOE has EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, and Wizardry in their stable of games. I am glkad they went for something different.

I am an all access SOE subscriber, and play many of their games. If they simply added another rehash of the same systems, i'd have no incentive to play it.

IMO, SOE made a good choice.

I started EQ 1 a week after it was released, and played until PoP. I was also a null-sec citizen of a major EVE alliance (the people who live out in the FFA PvP area). I haven't heard anything about the PvP situation yet, and I'm eagerly anticipating what they have to say.

I'm also totally sold on this game. Nice job, SOE. I'll be picking it up for sure.

As I put it in another thread, EQNext....................is not Everquest.

    That's the way I feel.

Having said that I will give it a shot, just to try the interesting new feateres they are putting in.

But from what I hear so far (No Trinity, Casual, no Raids) this game ain't for me.

Because old school gamers do not want to play the same game that they have played for the last 14, 10 years already

So you want Trinity, hardcore, and raids? Why aren't you playing EQ1 or Vanguard. There are plenty of games that offer what you are looking for.

Vanguard is fairly recent, and plays just like the old school games.

Most of it looks very promissing, however SoE will need some serious tricks up theyr sleaves if they are gonna get away with using the same horrible approach to the trinity that Gw2 did.

I know from experience that SoE has a habbit for screwing up theyr mmo's in one way or another, and the GW2 like approach does make me worried.

Ill be honest, I was 7 when EQ1 came out so I never experienced it and didnt experience mmos til 6th grade or so when I played F2P asian ones. First real big mmo was WoW so I never really got into the world of Norrath. But I crave a sandbox style game. After playing wow for 5+ years I want exploration, mystery, danger, and excitement all around me, not down a road from quest hub to quest hub (why i enjoy vanguard so much). So yes it has won my heart so to speak.

Even though it's not what I originally expected, I'm still looking forward to it.

Do you actually make this up?

Just because there's no trinity doesn't mean you can't play the heal or tank role, the Dev's even said as much.  Where did they say the game was casual.  Too me if anything this is as hardcore as one can get.  Casuals only play a few hours a week, you couldn't accomplish anything worthwhile in EQN in a few hours a week, considering the Rallying Calls take 2-3 months to progress.  As for raids, they never said their removing raids, if anything raiding will get harder and more detailed thanks to the smart A.I.  So please quit making stuff up to fit your biased opinions because it makes you sound ignorant.

Random Forum Poster: I want an MMO that is different, original and fun.

Me: So you want something like EQN

Them: Nah dude, I want a Holy Trinity, Tab Target combat, Instanced Raiding, and Rigid classes.

    Me: Double Facepalm.

Played Vanilla EQ back in 2000, enjoyed it. First MMO I ever played so lots of nostalgia. Played EQ2 for a month at release and while it was somewhat enjoyable, it was too flawed.

EQNext makes me facepalm right now. From what I've seen, Sony is taking the graphics engine from Planetside 2, and inspiration from Minecraft, and EA's Battlefield franchise. Feature that I just don't see going beyond the amusingly yet superficial "ooooh, ahhhh" that it will give the first few weeks post release.

     the concepts won my heart

    - I need to see it put into game play

my eq background is someone who played and raided in both eq1/eq2

I played EQ1 heavily for 5 years until EQ2 launched

I hope SOE was just trolling about being like GW2, with no progression, no trinity, no massive raids, abilities tied to weapons, everything scaled in difficulty to the number of players ... (potentially everything instanced? .. as a means to achieve personalized scaling of areas / dungeons)

SOE does have this unique effect of making something awesome, then changing it and leaving a bunch of jaded fans.  Look at the SWG CU / NGE.....  If SOE doesn't deliver with EQN in a manner suitable to the fans that built their franchise, I expect many more posts over the next 10-20 years about the decisions they are making :/

    Win my heart?

    it broke it lol

Didn't win mine..  I sense that I will not be able to KITE mobs, nor will I be able to fear and leach them like a Necro.. I won't be able to charm them and I doubt I'll be able to Feign Death either to avoid death...... But then something tells me this will play like GW2.. ZERG DPS and if you die, just pop up at the closes spawn point and pay some coin..  This doesn't smell like EQ, It doesn't taste like EQ.. As one poster has said, this isn't EQ..  Just because you have a track of land with the title Norrath on it doesn't make it so..  I can put the sign "Pennsylvania" Ave at the end of my street, that doesn't make my house the White House.. lol

Looks good so far, love seeing a large scale publisher working on a sandbox, however I will be shocked if it ends up really being a sandbox.  I need to see that there will be pvp servers with full owpvp and clan vs clan sieges before I'm all in.

Lol so you want me to go out with a 15 y/o car while you have plenty of new cars to choose from?

Do you think this is fair?

EQ is ancient, the graphics are basic, the technology is obsolate, and the content is limited (despite its 20 expansions)

Yet the gameplay is challenging and addictive and require interdependancy which creates a good comunity.

EQ needs a Reboot with some Sandbox elements in it (like the horizontal progression, the skill system, and the dynamic world that EQNext is offering)

Vanguard launched broken, it has been unplayable for 2 years, for that reason there is almost zero population there and with low population you can't play that kind of game.

I also do not like some design choices of Vanguard which were too Old EQ even for me, Vanguard was EQ with better graphics.............but that's not what I am looking for (although I even hated the graphics)

So as you can see I am not asking a carbon copy of EQ with better graphics, but an updated version of EQ with modern technology and a sandbox twist

Yes I'll will be playing , its the kind of change I have been looking for. The ability to change or create the weapons and armor I want on my future Shadowknight is a big plus.

They won me over until they spilled the beans about the LoL flavor of the month class system and that they destroyed the traditional role system in favor of making combat more "intelligent" which ends up meaning cat and mouse pve or kiting mobs 90% of the time.  Not hot on the horizontal progression system either which always ends up being a lack of a progression system, but their model has potential.  Other than that I completely loved everything else, especially a very DnD global reputation system that follows you everywhere and changes the way you interact with the world.  Rallying calls cool, dynamic stuff are features we've been desperately in need of from the beginning.
