Why has there been no gameplay footage?

KiyorisKiyoris Member RarePosts: 2,130

So, outside of the small bits of faceroll footage, there has no really been much gameplay footage. We did see very nice jumping and floating animations.

That EQNext presentation was 2 hours long and we have seen maybe 40 seconds of actual combat, and they said it was more scripted combat than actual gameplay.

Didn't see an UI either.

Why do you think that is.

Torn between the first and third voting choice...

With that said... It was a reveal only. Sole purpose being to show what to expect and denounce their vapor status. I imagine we won't see real gameplay footage until beta/beta leaks.

Smoke and mirrors for the pony show, son. Poor schmucks doing the actual work are probably all chained to their desks praying for a miracle or a quick death.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

Because the game is NO WHERE close to being ready for anything.. For an annual nationwide convention with a NEW game debut, it was a joke..  Auto shows do a better job.. I wasn't sold on anything because there wasn't anything there of substance to show me..  We should of by now see:

    1. ALL playable races and a "character creation" demo..
    2. List of ALL starting cities for those races and at least screenshots of most of them
    3. List of ALL starting classes and skill demo..
    4. An actual AI combat scenario
    5. Crafting..... OMFG.. Did the dog eat their homework on that one?  lol

The most logical answer would be that it is still in development...

Ridiculous!!!Everyone knows that first reveal demos should be completely finished games!!!!

The games still about 2 years off from release so technically there's probably no game footage other then the demo's to see.

Odd. I thoroughly enjoyed the annual nationwide convention new game debut.  Yeah, auto-shows... I'd like to buy some of he concept cars we see, but all we end up getting are toned downed versions.  Ahh I see what you did there - very clever.

Seriously,  you did not find anything you liked about the reveal?

Your poll choices suck.  They didn't show gameplay footage because they aren't ready.  Combat isn't finalized, AI aren't calibrated with proper scripts, and they likely don't have all the classes/races/skills worked out yet.  In other words the game still has quite a ways to go in development before beta, and longer before live launch.

Not really..  I need more to sink my teeth into before I get hyped..  It's like reading the brochure of a car.. I want to see pictures of both interior, exterior and all the bells and whistles..  I want details like MPG, torque, 0-60.. etc etc..  EQ Next gave me nothing.. It was just an empty radio commercial saying, "we have a great product, you'll love it"..   But yeah, showing me some concept art is just a dream.. I don't even think they have a character creation code done.. So..... How did they put those two characters in the game?

okay, am I lost or a moron because there were four devs at the end of the stream who were actually playing the game through several encounters that wasnt scripted.

so what form of gameplay footage are we asking for in the thread?

True ..  NO way it's released in 2014.. Maybe within 2 years. but if they are really just at the starting gates.. It won't launch till late 1015 or early 2016..  IMO

The boss was being played by one of the devs (Terry, I believe) who was spamming the bosses massive attack over and over for effect.

But yeah, it wasn't true game play footage as the little kobolds (i think they were) were unscripted/static mobs set up like bowling pins for the devs to faceroll to show off how attacks looked (high tier attacks at that).

They put out a ton of info this past weekend.  They are changing the way we play MMO's, especially with Landmark.  I've watched over 3hrs of videos packed with details, details far beyond an empty commercial.  The classes Q&A alone gave out more info than most other companies put out before a beta launches.

I get that you wanted more info - but to say you did not like any of it... hey, EQN may not be for you?  [mod edit]

Pretty messy and unfished. The mobs don't move, the combat is completely chaotic and unispiring. (red circles to know where to stand, really?)

The gameplay seems to be the achilles heel of this game.

Ok something doesn't look right there - I've watched it several times now - there are 5 guys playing the same section - sitting down, you can see them in the bottom left window - BUT

there are only 2 characters on screen being played - the others have this strange camera zooming in and out on their screen - the 2 of them are actually playing the Kerran and Human - WTF are the other 3 doing zooming camera around???

Doesn't anybody else find that strange at all?

Watch it yourself - link is above, sklp to 39:00

It's not just 5 guys playing - something very strange is going on there lol

Edit - ok I see 2 Kerrans and 2 humans - but they are identical in appearance so it's hard to keep track) - at one point the 3rd guy looks like he is playing a skeleton/undead.

3 were playing, 1 was spawning the mobs and the other was playing the boss.

Ok - so what happened here - look at the screenshot below - 2 wizards, 2 warriors (did one of them stop spawning kobolds and jump in as a wizard?)

Correct - They jumped in to help because Terry (dev playing the boss) was spamming the mobs biggest attack over and over

While I was REALLY excited about everything EQN is doing, I was at the same time disappointed that we only got to see a fraction of the game in the form of a tech demo. All we were shown was a few character models + animations, a little bit of the environment, destructability, and just barely combat. Again just a tech demo.

We did not see 3 out of the 4 holy grails in action - emergent AI (Storybricks), multiclassing abilities, and permanent change (rallying calls). We also saw nothing of the NPC interactions, PvP, questing, housing, the UI, inventory system, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love all the concepts they talked about. I was just expecting a hell of alot more to be unveiled.

On the flipside, they certainly succeeded in leaving me wanting more.

Uhh.. does everyone know this was just a tech demo? The was no game play footage.

Some of the comments I read above are clearly drawing the wrong conclusion about what they saw.

Wow - I think my just killed a few brain cells writing that out.

Also they confirmed the ability spam was for effect, and not representative of actual gameplay.
