Does anyone know why they would not put the graphics from the character creation into the actual game ? If they added an option that would enable it I think that it would be sweet! What do you guys think?
Yeah the in game faces do look slightly different from the ones from the character creation. I never knew why that was, it's been like that since release and most likely even before that. They're even more detailed too....
What FFXI needs to do is come up with a new expansion that adds new textures and item/character models and make the game much better looking in general. I think we have the PS2 to thank the fact that FFXI doesn't have those good graphics, nor those better character models you were mentioning.

yeah i feel bad for those folks that have to play this game on ps2 i play it on my pc with a gforce 6800gt overclocked and 2 gigs of ram so i can turn the resolution up to max and this game looks sweet. But for what i paid for my graphics card when i got it and the ram upgrade you could buy prolly 4 ps2s so i guess they are gettting a bargin but im getting to see this game the way everyone should get to see it.
The 360 version is just the PC version, with slightly improved textures and draw distance (from what I've read). While the PS2 couldn't handle more vraiety in character moels than the game currently sports, I don't se whay they couldn't update the graphics engine for PCs and the 360. For example, in DAoC three different versions of the graphics engine existed side by side for a long time. When I played it on a craphead PC I wopuld fire it up using the oldest engine. When I upgraded my PC I started using the newer engine. FFXI has more subscribers than DAoC ever did, don't see why they couldn't support two engines (but from what I've read no plans to do so in the near future).
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
yeah im hoping with the expansion that is coming out (no set date yet) that they add new graphics engine but really this game doesnt look bad at all for how old it now.
The game doesnt use those graphics because 1) not everyone could run them when theres 1000 players in an area 2) the servers cant handle the models when there are 1000 people in an area.
Could they not upgrade the servers to handle the graphics..? And for players that can't handle it there would be an option to turn the graphics off for people who cant and on for people who can handle the new graphics.

Maybe the 360 version will look good?
I wish there was better customization
