Not everyone is looking to find complaint. Some of us are eagerly looking forward to this game.
I'm as old school as one can get... proud AC vet here. I have no problem with the road they want to take with EQN It's been years since I was excited for a MMO. I have a feeling about EQN. It will be a game changer. It will be massive. The changes they intend to implement are groundbreaking.
I guess my satirical first post was not obligatory enough.
That said. I am looking forward to this game. I do wonder why everyone thinks that if a game doesn't conform to what THEY think it should be like, they feel obligated to tell every person in the gaming community what they think, and why everyone else should feel as they do.

Sorry for the run on sentence
Its calling posting in a gaming forum. That's what we do here. Talk about video games, good and bad. If you want an echo chamber where only positive comments are allowed, start up your own fan site and do it there.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
personally i'm excited for what ive heard but EQN is *not* the greatest mmo of our time
Nadia, you and I agree on a lot.. and I agree it is *not* the greatest mmo of our time. But it certainly has the potential. If they implement things just right, and the stars align just right - the magic could happen again.
And take it from me.. I am a jaded MMO'er. I was brutal on WoW after Vanilla/BC and pretty much everything else since leaving old AC/EQ from my own golden age of MMO's. I don't know what changed my mind about EQN. There is something about it that I can't put my finger on.
But I swear, there is something with it that seems to rekindle my longing of times past. I feel it. I don't even care about the game mechanics or graphics and all the other crap - something about EQN is Everquest reincarnate... I will let myself find it.

I was only playing devils advocate
if SOE delivers on what they claim, I will have found my mmo home for the next few years (i loved the 8 slot system in GW1)
but EQN probably will not appeal to most / all mmo gamers
Not sure if it'll be the greatest MMO of out time, since the future's hard to read. But yes, I'm also very enthusiastic. I'd say it's definitely got my #1 spot over all the competition out there. Partly because of it's non-MMO traits, and because it looks so contemporary. V. modern and innovative.
I hope Sony can do everything it says; and that it doesn't take years to launch.
Since they claimed not to be primarily after their own EQ players, perhaps they're in it for a brand new market. Maybe people who've burned out of MMOs? or people who don't play MMOs at all? We might end up with quite an interesting melting pot.
The voxel world representation is a big deal. I think it will change the way MMO's are done in the future.
Beyond that, they haven't really shown anything beyond a cinematic art style and console-ready combat.
The other 3 grails are a lot of verbiage and no demos. In fact the devs have been contradicting themselves.
Georgeson "tiers aren't levels, it's all horizontal progression. ... You can choose sides in major events"
Q&A session "if I go into teir 3 content with a friend, we'd better both be tier 3. ... You can't grief a rallying call, you can only choose not to participate."

Perhaps progression is not because your character and skills themselves increase in power, but because the gear that you can equip does ?
We already know that gear will modify your skills and abilities.
You can choose sides in a Rallying Call. In doing so, you can choose which faction you gain favor with.
Doesn't mean that you will change the final outcome. But then again, you won't know that until the final outcome arrives
If they can actually make things work out the way they claim things will, I would agree it'll be the most impressive MMO of all time.
I don't know whether they'll be able to do it or not. They're on the right track though. If features we haven't even heard anything about yet (like crafting and pvp) can measure up, it's good times.
An Open-Non linear world, with true sandbox destructibility and constructibility, an artificial intelligence for every NPC and Mob. What's not to love about the potential for this game.
Random Forum Poster: I want an MMO that is different, original and fun.
Me: So you want something like EQN
Them: Nah dude, I want a Holy Trinity, Tab Target combat, Instanced Raiding, and Rigid classes.

Well.. lets put this way.. GM is coming out a brand new Camaro for 2015.. Boy does it look sweet as hell.. I have never see a car so sexy as this one, and ya'll are going to be floored when we show it to you at the annual auto show.. Reserve your tickets while you can..
So that day comes and guess what.. The brand new Camaro is there and it looks like a tweaked version of the AMC Pacer..... WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF??? The problem here is that you put a name on the product that has history and implies a certain performance.. When you do the old switch a rooo , it's going to piss people off that was expecting something in the with the name..
Im not impressed on what I saw im positive I won't play this game. I don't like SOE games but I will probably keep checking EQN so far im not impressed.
personally i'm excited for what ive heard but EQN is *not* the greatest mmo of our time
You forgot:
-advanced AI
The game really does seem to be shaping up to be something great.
There isn't any mob AI in the game yet from what I could see. How they said it will work sounds great. But remember the personal stories and dynamic events of GW2? Turned out to be far more mundane than they made it sound.

Just like in GW2, the reality hammer will smack. Some harder than others.

Well, your claim contradicts what was said in the Q&A. Basically, THEY decide what the "permanent change" is going to be, and the players decide whether to participate in advancing the public quest to activate that permanent change or not.
You don't get to make "permanent change" yourself (beyond building your house), you just help usher it in or you don't.
Comments
- horizontal progression
- art choices
- 8 slots for spells / skills
- no trinity
and the list goes on for what annoys some gamers

Gear is supposed to be horizontal progression as well. Here's a link that says "equipment will not provide attributes". http://www.eqnexus.com/2013/08/soe-live-day-2-everquest-next-nightly-recap/
