At first I was upset to see the characters looking so cartoonish.   It really did get to me.   As the weekend passed and I watched every video about EQN from vegas, I started to think that this game could really be , simply put, FUN.

But the one thing that turned me completely around, yet by force of habit I kept forgetting, was that its FREE.   How can I be angry at a game that's 100% free?  Every time I thought about that, I would feel much better about the choice they made with the cartoon look to the characters.  At this point I went over all the videos again, and looked at the female human closely.  As far as cartoonish MMOs, she looks much better then any cartoon style characters out there.   So, after all of this sunk into my head, I now feel very excited and interested in playing this game.

But, I will always be waiting for the best of everything, and I do hope someday some MMO will come out and have very real looking characters And an incredible world with awesome game play mechanics, all in one!

I expect to see more posts like this as time wears on.  EQN will deliver the magic again.  All we have to do is let it.

Can't wait to play, and bask in the joy of playing a living, breathing and vibrant Everquest again.  I think even the hardcore among us want that, they've just forgotten it is all.

    p.s. /thx for the rez

It won't be 100% free. You will probably be limited when it comes to things you can do vs. Things paying members will get. Ie, limited classes.

Not to show my age too much.. But I like paralleling it to...

When "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was announced, everyone I knew that liked and watched "Star Trak" (60s) were nerd raging over "That is not Star Trek!", "What are you thinking, children on a starship!", "A robot as one of the main characters!", ect, ect, ect... rage, rage, rage...

Time passed and they fell in love. Same can be said for Deep Space 9, Voyager and Enterprise.

When Star Trek (2009) was announced, it all started over once again... "You blew up Vulcan!", "Teleporting at warp speed!", ect, ect, ect... rage, rage, rage... It came out and the majojrity like it.

People want change, they crave change, but they also fear change.

Good analogy Cragfire.  I am definitely old enough to remember it.  LOL.  I can't wait till EQN is firmly planted and growing growing into the juggernaut I am sure it will be.

Yes, but if it's just FREE gw2 then what's the point?  I already have a gw2 box so it's essentially free now.   I really hope they can do better than gw2 but the combat/class section looks eerily similar.  I would describe myself more as: cautiously optimistic.

do yourself a favor and research the game yourself, don't listen to all the idiots on these forums posting rage threads and spreading disinformation.

yes, EQN is like GW2 in the fact that

    1. it has a giant cat person race,

    2. it has action combat

    3. it doesn't have dedicated class roles

^though i think with EQN they won't take it quite to the same extent GW2 did. there will more than likely be a druid class or a cleric class however those classes will have utility and damage ability along with their ability to heal. if you want an example, think of mixing a shadow priest and a holy priest/disc priest or a boomkin druid with a restro druid in WoW. this is probably how the healer-ish classes will look with EQN. "tank" classes will more than likely have damage reduction abilities as well as stuns and knockdowns for CC. they will also be able to deal damage via their weapon abilities. there won't be *no healing, no tanking*, it just won't be a role dedicated to a specific few classes.

    4. that's pretty much it

now let's list what is different from GW2

    1. no linear progression. no levels.

    2. 40 classes worth of abilities to unlock on a single character.

    3. most of your character progression will come from your gear (gear dependent game).

    4. fully destructible world.

    5. non-instanced open world player housing ("you will need a land grant from a city to build near it" -georgeosn).

    6. totally dynamic environment and world. nothing will stay the same. you can log out in december and log back in 2 months later and not recognize half the server due to player actions and randomized events.

    7. advanced AI that roams freely and causes havok. all NPC's will run on this new AI from storybricks, it will have a significant impact on the game and how people interact with it (think lizardman or undead raids on cities back in UO).

    8. the world is a sandbox. you can build anything your heart desires either in-world or in landmark. you can import what you build in landmark into the actual game as long as it passes inspection.

    9. multi-classing. pull skills and abilities from anything you'd like to create your own unique class that suits your needs.

    0. pvp will exist, and it will more than likely be open world. i'm guessing it will be limited to factions or guilds fighting one another so people who don't want to be involved can stay away. with luck they will also include a zoning system similar to EVE's with low / null sec areas of the world that award no player protection. this is just speculation though so i can't really give it a number with the other points.

there's a lot more that needs to be added to the differences list as well since they havent released a WHOLE lot of information, including crafting but that's a whole other beast.

please, tell me why you think this game is a carbon copy of GW2 again?

true to an extent. they will likely offer a sub service like they do with their other games that comes with bonuses in-game. if we are lucky (and sony is smart...) they will only put cosmetic items and housing items / etc up in the shop and not sell skills / classes and so on. what's the point in taking months to unlock everything when you can just spent $50 and have a totally maxed out character? :

that's honestly the scariest part of the game for me. the store in EQ2 isn't so bad, hopefully they do something similar to that.

    The magic will return!

    So lets start guessing prices!

I am going to guess about 15 of those 40 classes are going to be purchased throught he cash shop.

Also going to guess we will start with about 18 bag slots and then have to pay 9.99 or 1000 station cash for every additional bag.

Bank slots are going to be 800 station cash.

Lockboxes! Lots and lots of lockboxes!!! Keys are going to be 100 station cash a pop.

Mounts? 2000 to 5000 station cash. I want to go one step further and say, none of them will be permanent, 30 days to 60 day duration MAX.

And of course the usual cocktail of consumables, Experience potions, HP vials, MP Vials, Teleportation scrolls, battle rez scrolls.

I cannot wait for this free to play title!
