That is now over with the player base exiting the game in huge numbers. I remember playing this game 2 years ago and seeing 100's of players in CNET or Theed and I mean 100's of them in each city no matter the time of day. I have logged in before my account expired and saw 3 other people in the game besides me...that was a total from going to CNET, Mustafar, Mining Outpost, And Theed. With no community anymore.....there is no reason to play the game for me. I suspect that the reason why a lot of people want this game to fail now is because of the sence of loss they feel from losing friends and community. I guess a small part of me holds on to the hope that a pre-NGE server will start up.....but I will not put any money on that hope.
The part you say about people spending money on a mmo hoping it to change.

Thats exactly what I have a problem with, I loved the game as it started out, and I know change in a mmo is inevitable, but it does not have to be so drastic or so often. Some new content on occasion would be ok but I would rather have content that worked added slower than have the constant influx new bugs for the sake of pushing out new content so fast.
I dont remember the age but I think the original game had an end user license agreement that you had to accept every time you started the game that stated no one under (fifteen).
Again I dont remember the age but I know it was older than the six year olds it seams to be geared to now.

Myself i belive the combat change was needed but i got out only after about 1 month after it. Thats doesnt say some other folks will like it and i i wish them and sony gl If the only reason you stay in a mmo game is the friends and community then its time to bail out.
Maybe swg will utterly fail who know but i sure dont wish it to happen because the people that do like it cant play it then.
why all the hate?! because SOE did its best at ruining the best MMORPG out right now. i played for two reasons. one the content and the other is the community. now that has been totally ruined so there is no point in playing anymore.Even the guild i was in which lasted for two years fell apart due to players leaving the game so SOE has nail the screw into the coffin. Well, unfortunately I like SWG. I like EQ, I liked PS, and I even somewhat like EQ2. I personally have no hate toward these SOE games, however I do understand the hatred toward SOE. I have spent about 5 years playing SOE's MMO's and have always enjoyed them, for a time. Personally I feel that their games have been good and my time well spent on my entertainment. Sadly, that has always changed at about the 2 year mark for each game.
I have never wanted the changes they made at this ~2 year milestone. But they came anyway. I guess my point is that SOE has made some good games and in the end I don't actually hate them. I sure wish I could go back and play EQ during the original thru velious expansion, man those were fun. Or PS when it first came out, man those were some great battles. Or SWG, if I could only take some of the good things they did to the game all the way up to NGE and hand it to the SWG devs during beta (original not NGE).
I feel that I have spent 5 years enjoying good games, and many of them have been SOE products. Sadly SWG is the last in my line of SOE games I am interested in, I really don't want it to die. Do you really want it to die? Is the hatred for SOE so overwhelming that you would need them to shut down the SWG servers to feel closure?

I agree with this statement....I think SOE was banking on the fact that people would blindly hand over money in order to keep the community alive. That did not happen and SWG now is closer to death than at any time in history. This is something I hate to see....but greed wins the day.
I have spent way to much money on this game. I only feel this way because now it sems that it was a money pit....kinda like a car that never seems to get fixed no matter how many times the mechanic adds up new bills.
I chose to spend my money with SOE so I do not blame anyone for my loss.....but I do have a right to feel a little pissed off about the broken promises.

If people are willing to shunk out money for swg when they only use for chatting ,then i do think its immature to all of the sudden x number of years later start blaming sony for something they should have seen coming a lot earlier.
If people like to use swg as chatting tool please do but dont complain later that you have wasted money on it.
Dont pickout the word immature and start making upp stuff please.

I played SWG for 1 year before quitting. My reasons to quit? A lot of cheaters becoming Jedis (2 on my guild), and for me you should pass a test to become jedi. And was a boring game.
Now i'm so sad, i never thought SWG will disappear, but is normal cause of the game system.
What SOE did with SW universe is far away to forgive, they crashed it, they broken it, they transform it in a cheat2play game... and that's the reason so any people can be happy seeing SWG dissappear.
The worst thing is SWG universe deserves more attention, more and strong rules to become a jedi (not just grinding profesion after profesion til you meet the old man, and after that continue grinding) but at least we tried it and we see the MMORPG gamers of the world want easy things... and being a Jedi will never be easy.
But all mmorpgs fails at something, and maybe after that SOE can think what they do wrong.

Honestly, why don't you get lost! All you seem to do is attack ANYONE who likes the game. Infinity is buzzing. I know your angry little mind doesn't want anyone to have fun in SWG because you can't. Unfortunately for YOU, plenty of people are.
Don't like the game, feel betrayed? GOOD! Now leave, and let the rest of us enjoy ourselves.

dont worry SoE is relying on the christmas season to bring ppl in and even if it does they wont like the game once they get to about lvl 30 and the only populated areas will be like mos eisley or other major noob cities but other places will never grow in population because most ppl will prolly quit the game because SoE is (or at least seems to be) marketing to the wrong ppl (teenagers)

SWG wont survive with one server jumping and I belive the topic is "so why all the hate" So if you still like the game THEN GO PLAY IT as for the rest of us who invested time and money in a game we once liked will respond to the topic at hand. And if we wish to vent about it and warn people of a seriously bad managment SWG we will TYVM. Now say bye
Bottom line is that if SWG goes below 100,000 subscribers it will very likely wind up on the cancelled list. Unlike AC2, where Turbine not only owned the game but also owned the license, SOE has to pay LucasArts for their license and probably a certain % of the profits as well.
So they have to have enough subscribers to generate enough annual income to absorb the annual costs of the license fee and STILL Cut a profit. If you estimate out their annual RECURRING costs they are probably in the 7-10M range. In order to absorb that and still cut enough of a profit to justify the game they would need to be making a NET profit of over 20M. That means 20M+ AFTER recurring costs of roughly 7-10M
To do that they need 150,000+ subscribers. They might squeek by with 100,000 but anything below that and SWG is in dire peril.
I'm not HATING on the game... it's just simple math and knowing how corporations work. If they don't meet certain income margins then Sony and LucasArts WILL shut the game down.

ROFL, I'm the Crybaby? Take a look in the mirror. Pretty much all your posts are digs at people who like the game or whining on and on about how your precious game is gone. Good riddance to it and people like you. Moaning, whining, spoiled and thankfully LEAVING (or have left) the game!
So why all the hate? Its called feeling betrayed, lied to, and disappointed. Anger is a natural response. I wouldn't expect understanding without the initial emotional investment many old-time players feel for their game of choice. This level of hostility and ill-wishing may seem over-the-top or even immature, but in this case I must agree that it is appropriate. Sony Online deserves every ounce of hate they are getting, they have well and truly earned it.
Hey gentleman take it easy! It seems like this forum turned in to smack fest. No need to offend each other.
I have played SWG too and here is what i can tell you with out smack talking on the forums. Before I went to SWG I have played many MMORPGs. And what I didnt like in SWG is that:
1- It is empty, yes on every server. Dont tell me that i wasnt on the right server , I was on all of them and they all empty comparing to the other games. you go the city and its empty. only npcs standing around. NOT FUN!
2- People who is playing there in my opinion not really game oriented. They dont want to run missions together , they dont want to craft something with you, they dont want to do nothing that includes more than 1 person. (meaning themself)
3- There are a lot of graphic bugs, objects appear and the next thing u know they are gone.
4- Missions are boring, very simple.
5- When some events happens all the players go to that event and start camping it. there for rendering it useless. and boring.
I love SW saga I'm a big fan own all the movies and games But SWG get 4 out of 10 from me.
Well, i do like SWG but it has been tottaly ruined. i am a star wars fan, this game is totally scaring the name of star wars. i really hope this game fails... miserablly
You reap what you SOE. Sony Online Entertainment never realized this simple truth, and now it has become their undoing. SWG can not exist as long as SOE is attached to it. As Most of you know , I Jestor Rodo of the Kauri server was banned for alleged forum misuse . SOE is the only on-line gaming company that has rules that jump from forum to game - no other and the rules placement is still in dispute by myself and a few others that were affected.
You wonder why the hate ? SOE has an ongoing cavalier attitude about their customers - its their way or the highway. At a recent panel discussion were the head legal guy from SOE was quizzed about the EULA - end-user license agreement and he replied in a very fluster manner " If you don't like the EULA - go play some other game" Now that players are doing that on their own after the NGE , SOE is eating their words and crying in their .

Everything that was good and interesting with SWG has been dismantled. SWG was so different from every other MMO that it was easy to overlook the bugs and broken professions for a few months. There are three major turning points in SWG downward spiral:
The introduction of Holocrons to help players become Jedi. The Combat Upgrade. The New Gaming Experience.
Holocrons ripped the community apart--people who were once social, friendly, and fun to go hunt with became anti-social, power-gaming jerks bent on grinding profession after profession so they could become Jedi. Many burnt out and quit.
Next came the combat upgrade. Suddenly folks who weren't purely trained for combat were useless in the big game hunts. Creature difficulty was turned upside down. And crafted items got all screwed up. If you wanted to go hunting, you didn't play around with crafting or entertaining anymore. Non-combat professions disappeared rapidly after the CU.
Finally the fat lady sings and NGE arrives. I'm not sure why SOE/LA left 9 iconic professions. They should have just gone down to 5: Soldier, Medic, Spy, Jedi, and Trader/Entertainer. With the NGE, professions vanished along with the skill system. It's now EQ in Space. At the same time, the user interface was completely changed and SOE/LA tried to add some first-person-shooter elements to the game. Actually the only FPS element is trying to mouse over your intended target (rather than just using the TAB key to target) and mashing the mouse button to fire your gun or whatever.
So now SWG is a mish-mash of poorly implimented ideas--it's a game that tries to be everything, and pretty much does all of them poorly. The space combat is okay, ground combat is laggy and awkward, trade-skills have been gutted, the poor entertainers (I was originally a dancer/smuggler/partial tka) have only one game skill (providing buffs), and the community has fallen apart.
When the mass exodus began after the Jedi began to spawn like weeds there were two reasons I recall hearing other than jedi-grinding burn-out:
1. Traders were leaving because after crafting your 4 millionth widget and having a bank account that made Bill Gates look poor there was nothing left to do. 2. Smugglers, Squad Leaders, Rangers, insert unfinished profession--were leaving until SOE finished their profession. (Sadly smugglers are an iconic profession in the NGE, but they still can't smuggle, 2 years after SOE first acknowledged the problem.)
So why all the hate? Because people hate stupidity, and there's no way to better describe SOE/LA's decisions regarding how they run SWG than stupid.
things arent picking up despite what u all believe. i mean seriously it'll never pick back up again, ever.
SOE has screwed up everything that used to be the SWG game, the real game. i mean it has the potential to be a great game but not the game i paid for.But my resources indicate that SWG will fail before 2007.

We're having discussions here, and if you can't take the heat.. the kitchen exit is right behind you.

dont worry SoE is relying on the christmas season to bring ppl in and even if it does they wont like the game once they get to about lvl 30 and the only populated areas will be like mos eisley or other major noob cities but other places will never grow in population because most ppl will prolly quit the game because SoE is (or at least seems to be) marketing to the wrong ppl (teenagers)
SWG wont survive with one server jumping and I belive the topic is "so why all the hate"
So if you still like the game THEN GO PLAY IT as for the rest of us who invested time and money in a game we once liked will respond to the topic at hand. And if we wish to vent about it and warn people of a seriously bad managment SWG we will TYVM. Now say bye
PIRATE LORDS

No sparky.. I don't attack just anyone. Just crybabies like you who come in and piss and moan that we should "get a life" or 'shut up" or any of the other foolishness.
If you want a group-hug everything-is-alright board, sony has it for you.

Love that Jestor , SOE doesn't know any better!
Unaware of the Jestor?
