It looks like this game is going to be quite successful to start. They already claimed they have over 1 million beta subscribers and now topping Amazon's PC sales list.
This is definitely good news. All the hard work they are putting into it is going to pay off, it seems.

I hope FFXIV does really well.
I have a feeling I'm going to be playing it for a while.
I agree with BadSpock. I see myself playing this one for a while.
Also, that 1 million beta subscribers also includes everyone who already purchased FFXIV 1.0. A lot of people are willing to try out ARR because they already purchased 1.0 and don't actually have to buy the game again. That's a huge plus.
I agree. It's the first time since WoW:Burning Crusade where I felt longevity was back in my MMO of choice. Not since those days have I foreseen a long future in my game. We're going to need it too in order to keep us occupied while tons of shiny new MMOs come along and try to change things up, like EQNext, Wildstar, TESO and so on.
This seems to be the last true traditional MMO for a long time and I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere down the road the genre swings back this way when it realizes we're a sizable pool of gamers who enjoy traditional combat and MMO design.
As long as they dont screw over crafters, ill be around for a while. I don't think they will do that considering the time they dedicated to their crafting and gathering systems. I don't see them rendering them obsolete with the first tier of dungeons and raids.
It's really the only game I *want* to play at the moment. Thanks to FtP I have a lot of options, and yet I'm willing to pay for a subscription for this one. So I do hope the game is successful and survives the post-release drop-off in good condition.
I want to play NAO, darnit! <insert Fry shoving money in face .gif here>
Avatars are people too
Well they are making changes in the crafting abilities. I'm not sure how many people knew of/saw but it was possible as of beta 3 to guarantee a HQ synth with NQ crafts each and every craft you made by following a certain ability pattern.
Yeah I saw that. They said it was a bug. I'm more concerned with the typical cycle that happens to crafting in themeparks. New content comes out and the crafted gear becomes so obsolete, you can hardly give it away. That happened to me in rift about three months into storm legion. I'd sell maybe an item a day for less money than if I were to sell the raw materials instead. That's usually when I pack it up.
IMHO they DESERVE to do very well...they being Square Enix.
Every time i see a comment from someone saying, "Yea, i played 1.0 and it was awful, they deserve to fail" or something to that effect, it kind of pisses me off...and I am a 1.0 hater. The wife and I loved FFXI and bought 2 CE editions of version 1.0. Needless to say, we were pissed.
And you folks are right...1.0 sucked at launch! However, plenty of games have sucked at launch. We feel ripped off and we move on. In fact, i think the standard business model has become:
Frank 'Spankybus' Mignone

-3d Artist & Compositor
-Writer
-Professional Amature
This is a very good point. I don't think there are any other MMO companies who have done this, and it helps illuminate the fact that SE didn't intentionally make 1.0 crappy. I think it was Tanaka's direction that caused it to be terrible - he was trying so hard to make it completely different from FFXI and other MMOs he sacrificed features people actually liked.

As others said this means nothing when it comes to long term success.
What this means is the game has the potential to be a big success now. This proves that the playerbase has truly given SE a second chance with ARR something that to my knowledge no other mmo has gotten before.
The ball is in SE's court they need to hold the subs now. Getting them is the easy part, keeping them is the hard part.
ARR has gotten great press. Obviously, it is a very niche game, but for what it is about, it seems to do it well. It doesn't surprise me that people are interested. Not to mention that ARR is the only AAA MMORPG coming out this year and quite possibly, into 2014 as well. All of the other big name titles won't be seen till 2015 (2014 is they rush out a product not ready).
You're right.
Hopefully they manage to hold players past the first free month, as that'll be the true test as to whether or not it has succeeded.

I love the new game so far but it does surprise me. Gamers (MMORPG ones especially) aren't the most forgiving imo. And, lets face it FFXIV 1.0 was horrible game at launch.
Indeed. A shame they don't do the same with their horrid SP FF games (starting with 8, although 9 was good. 10 and on are just awful though).
It's a sad day indeed when a family is too afraid of reprisals to publicly thank somebody for saving their lives.
Killing dragons is my shit
You're right. Not many FF games have had that Final Fantasy feel in a while, and it's nice to have it back.

This, This oh, and uh, yeah, This.
I am a HUGE meta-gamer. I am so looking forward to the crafting and markets again.
