Let's hope so. Would be a game changer. If they're not planning to be Oculus Rift compatible, they may already be behind the tech curve.
Of course, to really use the Rift it's going to need to be playable in first person view. And if that's going to be the case.. well.. not sure how all the jumping, spinning, flying particles, etc. will work with that.
But here's hoping!!! The Oculus Rift is going to be a major tech shift in the gaming industry.

The jumping, spinning, particles everywhich way, falling, sliding, moving at insane speeds are exactly why it will work better in third person than first person. It is much more difficult to create a compelling VR experience in first person that will not make you sick than it is to do in third person.
Must say hinting at oculus rift trough the blackbox vid, just genius.
Also belive making it from the ground up to support oculus rift is a smart move, oculus rift atm is super hot, being one of the first games not to mention mmos to support it will definatly pay off big.
Wow epic fun. I have always wanted to get into something gamewise like the Oculus Rift in an MMO. Would be great, but I wonder how long you can wear it before eye fatigue sets in.

Personally I think it will be more of a issue how long can you handle the pressure from the straps that hold the oculus rift, our eyes are quite adapative, I imagine after a while the fatique wouldnt be much worse then a normal screen.
That huge screen seems kinda redunant with the oculus rift though
Yep, called this one too about a month and a half ago.
I'm still not sure how they will get it to work exactly though. Action based combat, plus fast movements doesn't seem like a great setting for the Rift. But perhaps we will see in time.
Oh well... there goes all of my savings and my lifetime And yea, i would probably be that nutt that will play it with first person. Im even doing that at "Project 1999" EQ
Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2 Waiting for: Pathfinder Online
I wonder if they have a possible work around to let players use both the oculus rift and SOEmote tech? All this tech is pretty great for hardcore RPers to get closer to being in the game.
For those who dont know, SOEmote it lets your "characters come to life using your facial expressions and altered voice. You frown and growl, so does your avatar. Laugh and your avatar laughs with you!"
The voice filters are ok, but can use some work, and I am not sure if there are set voice fonts, or some options to customize it.
Anyhoo, I hope they have some interesting work for both the Oculus Rift and SOEmote to capture the upper half of the players face behing the Oculus Rift. If not its still all good, this tech all goes towards the final goal of virtual reality gaming
Who knows if Dave was serious but that was pretty hilarious.
Umm - did you guys not listen to this - the entire thing is a joke. How more obvious could they make it???
Obviously they are still poking fun of the whole permadeath incident.
Also the entire Oculus Rift thrown in there is just to get people talking about the game even more - pure hype strategy. I wouldn't hold my breath just yet - the game is nowhere near even past the design phase yet.
I agree Oculus Rift is quite pointless for MMORPG, it actually makes more sense for TESO online since they offer 1st person view , but afterall it is part of the hype / marketing and promoting.

The Rift SDK is very easy to use, besides the Planetside2 team added Rift support to Forgelight a few months back. The early in the design phase Rift support is added the better.
I think the permadeath slow down vid is a hoax. This is what it really says when slowed down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rvQv7C7KI4 Now that we have that out the way, at first I was disapointed with the unveiling but now that I see these all I can really say is................SOE OMFG STFU AND TAKE MY MONIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They might have a first person view that's yet to be seen. Then people can't cry about the character models as much hahaha.
It's supported.
Third person works great in a Rift. Actually has less motion sickness for me as well.
could be pretty cool.
