In my opinion it would be pretty cool if they removed the mini-map and the completed map from the game and Introduced an Incomplete map that you slowly unlock/mark down yourself as you travel to promote the feeling of exploration that EQN offers. now let me explain why the mini-map and map are a tired Idea.
The mini-map in most MMO's are useless, a resource node is around or an NPC with a quest or is a vendor,ah,weapon smith etc is all a mini-map shows. With the mini-map removed the player is forced to remember locations(or mark it down on the incomplete map) and find resource nodes themselves which creates immersion which is good.
handing a player a map of every nook and cranny removes the mysticism of going into the wild because you know that desert or forest is coming as you venture forth but with an incomplete map you start to actually find locations yourself. You have found the temple in the middle of the jungle and adventure inside, now the map automatically reveals this location as you travel you have an epic journey and at the end of that journey you want to remember that story for later on so you mark it down on your incomplete map for you can always remember.
I hope I got my message across about exploration sorry about the grammer.

Well, let see.
But EQN doesn't have levels. What game are you talking about?
Ill be pitching this idea when EQN forums opens to the public. I want to know the importance of a mini-map and why you care about one when it just takes up space in the UI.
if you feel all it does it take up space in the UI then why not just have an option to turn it off(which most mmos do if not from the game itself then with mods)

I only see the mini-map serving one purpose which is orientation. It will allow you to figure out where you are/where you want to go faster.
The bigger question is, is that EQN is trying to do? From what I've seen and I dont know shit, it looks like this game is going to require more time investment than some of the other games released recently. Not sure if that means hardcore or not but anything less casual will be welcome.
Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2
Waiting for: Pathfinder Online
This game isn't going to require anymore time investment than any other game released recently. The only difference may be it has more to explore but thats about it as far as time investment is concerned.

How do you know that?
I do not want a minimap in game but I do want maps...preferably ones that fill in as you explore the map area. The maps could even NOT show your current position on the map, that would be fine by me.
If they don't have maps in game then fan sites will make them and you will just go there anyway...so I'm pretty sure they will have them in game.
