I wonder what the excuse will be on the 13th?

Not that they bother explaining. I wonder how long they think they can keep hiding the ugly sister in the basement. Or is it they just cannot for the life of them keep the server up? Since 2002 they have been saying oh release is in summer 2202, oops maybe winter oops maybe.... At least there delays are getting shorter now, only 5 days this time. Maybe on the 13th they will only delay till the16th, then the 20th. Oh my it is Christmas vacation time, it will be up right after the holidays we promise.

Delays only happen in this business for one reason. The game is not ready, the only question is it because the server does not want to play or the content/gameplay is not there. In this case I should think it is both.

I miss DAoC

    hmm... maybe smth like: "servers are up now, and after intern testing we are planning to open them for first wave of pioneers at 26 dec." ? ::::03::

    I'd expect something like:

    The servers are now up!

    2 minutes later...


    We're sorry for the inconvenience, but due to unforseen technical difficulties, following the big number of logins, the server hardware melted and we'll need some time to fix it. The server will be back after the holidays, January 6th.

    i would expect an announcement like, due to several staff members of np3 getting their heads stuck up their asses, there will be a delay in the release of sog, so that we can can hire new members to our team, to pull our heads out of our asses.

    Hah, there : the excuse is ready, read the download page to understand :

    Dec 12th 10am GMT Pioneers can enter (monday)

    Dec 13th 6am GMT Settlers can enter (tuesday)

    Servers are open from thursday 1pm GMT to tuesday 6am GMT

    Their excuse tuesday is going to be server maintenance. you'll have to wait till thursday if you got a freebie account. Man man man, I had a great laugh with reading that page. By the way, some manual is up there too looking a bit more professional with that one.

    My prediction come the 13th:

    "The game servers are now up and ready for all players to enjoy. However, our login servers will not be available until after the holidays. Please check back for an announcement on January 9th. Thank you and enjoy the watching the login screen."

    What can I say? I'm just a wee bit skeptical still...

    You know I really do think they are trying, it's just that they are incompetent and will never be able to produce anything resembling a game and too arrogant to admit that they cannot even make something that could even compare to the simplest Asian MMORPG, let alone anything polished and professional. They should just put up a tombstone on the website and accept the fact that their little vacation over on Monkey island is over.

    i dont care, if the company needs the time they should get it...i dont like games which release in a rush and its unplayable. patience is the clou for success.

    well God knows they are not rushing this one, it has been in beta longer than most games are in development. 2 and 1/2 years delay on release now going for three on DnL. SoG which is just a mini beta version of Dnl delayed 3 times, limited server time now on that. They should really just go see if the Mourning devs might be able to use them in the mail room or something.

    yeah. pioneers (like me)  get about a day to play before the servers go down until thursday. this is assukming they are ready on the 12th (which they won't be.) i wouldn't expect anything before the new year. at least when DnL does come out, if ever, i get a pet dragon and some nice starting cash.

    did you work already on a project in any company, special in software companies these delays are normal..hey even in production companies they have delays. or should they better say "i dont know when exactly you can enter the servers, but around next week" image

    Possible excuses for further delays (in no particular order of importance)

    1. The dog ate my homework

    2. Those  damn republicans are to blame

    3.  The earth cracked open and swallowed the server farm

    4.  LET TOOKIE LIVE!

    5.  Development is busy playing WoW

    6.  Aliens abducted the entire DnL staff

    7.  Blue states are at fault

    8. Busy watching pr0n

    9. We pushed the red button instead of the black one

    10.  We weren't wearing our foil hats

    Well, January 6 IS the Epiphany... so maybe that would be appropriate?
